BeyondReach -> Best Epoch Variant (8/6/2020 19:09:36)

Hey all I've been gone a while and I'm thinking about get one of the Epoch classes as they have an interesting play style and I think they'll help for the inn at the edge of time challenges.
So I'm wondering if you could pick one which variant would you recommend ?
Underworld Epoch has a cool design and skills look good but is that out yet? As it's 2020 and skills are up but is it actually released?
Doom I gather is highly offensive variant but I know from playing chaos weaver I'm not great at glass cannon classes
Eternal tbh don't like the design but might be a better class for me.
I'm not sure how much the variants affect the skills and still a bit confused by the class mechanics as my only experience is like the first DA test for the original Epoch but any advice and recommendations are welcome.

Eternal is usually the best one, Doom is bad and Underworld is also pretty good

Seeing as I only have experience with the Underworld Epoch, I can only give you a thorough opinion on it.

I'd say that it's made for the long haul. With it's ability of double turns at 4 or more momentum,I imagine that it can be a beast when used effectively!

Unfortunately I have yet to figure out how to use it effectively.

So I can already gather doom is a no go
Tbf I'm used to patient dragon lord so I don't mind the build of power.
So Ethereal is more buffy and about building up to a load of Momentum to have a load of turns at once ?
Underworld might be more my play style so of building up to quick burst with having it extra turn spread out and I like the time shift is a reset skill because I find those skill useful like with pyromancer, I guess I'm looking something more forgiving if I mess up.

Well, my take on both Eternal and Underworld is that they are both excellent choices for Inn fights.

Eternal is usually better for single fights, Underworld for duos.

As a vivid Epoch-user, I can say that both choices are good and it just depends which you want.

The biggest different between those two is that Underworld gets double turns faster but has to sustain them by keeping Momentum bigger than 4. Eternal takes longer time to get but it can get maximum of 12 double turns and loop them.

And to use Epoch glasses you need high resistances. Epoch is very strong but it does require manu turns to set-up for that high damage and survivability.

I personally have defeated hardest fights in Inn (Pandora Ex, Unraveler Ex, Ancient Duo, Engineer in the Apex tower and Inevitable Equilibrium) with Underworld Epoch without greater challenge. And every other duo is doable with Underworld Epoch.

hmmmm then seems like underworld is better option if it can managed duo as single targets I can slowly through using chaos weaver or doom knight or whatever but I don't think I've yet to finish a duo. My main wall is wraith and sloth atm and I'm slowly getting through summon gem lot so guess underworld will be best for when I get to those duos.
Thanks to everyone for the advice so far

Underworld is slightly better due to shorter setup and a full heal every ~30 turns. The shorter setup matters a little for Ancient and IE, but it especially matters for Life and Death. It's also easier to use due to greatly simplified momentum management and the full heal.

EE has higher burst and (slightly) higher sustained damage. The higher burst matters for some fights like PEX and Crystal and Stone (and to a smaller extent in many inn fights where one boss is squishier but more deadly than the other). However, it's significantly harder to use due to needing to build to 12 momentum every 12 turns for timeshift. Double turns being attached to a skill makes it vulnerable to "no skills" attacks like from Kathool and Squirrel. Also, 10 turn boost cycle with 12 turn timeshift cycle means you either need to let them desync or give up on 2 turns of boosting, which is annoying.

EE can definitely do all the boss fights too, maybe with the exception of Life and Death. (I've beaten every inn fight but life and death with EE.)

Overall, I'd say UWE slightly edges out EE because of shorter setup (4 vs 7 turns) and the full heal being more important than (slightly) higher damage and a final you can use every 12 turns instead of every ~30.

That being said, ChW can do all the Inn fights (though needs extra pots/res stack for a few) and v2 can do all of them bar Failed Doom.

EDIT:
- Both ChW and V2 should be fine for Wrath and Sloth - I beat Sloth first try with a level 85 v2 alt with minimal nature res stacking.
- Crystal and Stone is easy with v2 (with Verraad/Uragiri), ChW, EE, and UWE.
- In Duty and Rebellion, EE's higher burst matters a lot vs Intaym, but honestly, the fight is just laser blades/chargebursting/punching Illumina for 10 minutes.
- Life and Death sucks for all the classes, and sucks most for EE due to long setup. UWE is probably the best of the classes mentioned, though ChW is fine too. I'd say it goes UWE > ChW > V2 >> EE. Though, honestly, just use KAA or Cryptic :|
