Book 3: The Doomwood Camps

Hey there, heroes!

This week, we have more Book 3 main story! Last time, you traveled to the ancient ruins on the border of Doomwood and the Whispering Steppes. This time, your factions have arrived and set up camp. I'm sure the faction leaders have plenty to talk about, too.

Also, it's time to begin the ruins delve with faction waves! Who knows what sort of strange things you'll find in your pursuit of the Proclamation focus?

[image]https://cms.dragonfable.com/df/images/DOOMWOODCAMPSdn.png[/image]

The Doomwood waves also have a 20% chance to drop Defender Medals!

Head over to Queen Victoria in Book 3 DragonFable and select The Royal Resistance to head over to your faction camp!

Primate Murder -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/19/2020 5:25:37)

spoiler:

So the entire basis of the Jaania-Kara friendship is that the latter bribed Rose into not genociding her people?

That's... unique.

Dratomos -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/19/2020 6:45:49)

spoiler:

Very nice release! The artwork on each camp is amazing.

By having two alts doing Rose and the Vind factions too, the story here is really interesting as we get to see what happened when our character was frozen from Rose's and Kara's perspective. This kind of dialogue makes me even more interested for Reimagination of early Book 3.

scifijimmy -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/19/2020 12:34:04)

spoiler:

The discussion in the Golden Hand camp revolves around how Ostromir and Vseslava maintain their power without the Ignominious. Also has further insights into the developing VaalRoirr problem back in the Shapeless. Still only Ull, but there is a wide spread investigation taking a lot of resources.

Lord Alsvinich -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/20/2020 0:47:05)

Really wishing I hadn't chosen the Golden Hand camp right about now...

ghostquartet -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/20/2020 1:33:13)

Yeah I'm feeling that a little bit, picking the Golden Hand seemed like the most "in character" choice for how I play the game and like it would offer some unique perspectives but it's a bit of a bummer that we're missing out on interacting with characters we're familiar with. It doesn't feel like I'm learning as much from them (though that could just be because I'm still shaky on the lore of that whole continent).

Flabagast -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/20/2020 7:31:13)

spoiler:

@scifijimmy That's quite interesting. I was under the impression that their magic was of a more conventional type. Then again, these Rifts are anything but conventional.

As soon as I saw that promo art I thought I'd be missing out, having joined the Vind. I wanna know how my goirls are doing! >,<
spoiler:

But we certainly got something worthwhile from Kara. Was Yalla the one that those Cultists got one of their artefacts from to bring Jayson back from the Darkness Plane a while ago? I remember seeing a big tree being the only clue of her at the time.

This really answers a lot of questions I'd never even thought to ask. It makes sense that Jaania defeating and pursuing the Wind Elves would attract all sorts of unsavoury characters like Theano and Akanthus to join the Rose, with retribution and domination in mind. Even when looking into the Mirror changed her outlook, others would carry that zeal and corrupt the Rose's ideals as well as justify attacking and enslaving non-human races. Not to mention the Mirror itself being a gift from the Wind Elves to prevent her from annihilating them.

Dang, those Wind Elves have certainly been through a lot.

Verlyrus -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/20/2020 14:22:40)

I recognize that The Golden Hand are being a bit tight-lipped at the moment, but rest assured, there will be "big things" from them in the future. That was a concern I had with this week's release, but I recognize it, and will adapt in future releases!

scifijimmy -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/20/2020 16:11:08)

I have to say that I don't mind particularly my choice because regarding Big Things in the future that each group will have major shifts in the future. There are plot threads that have developing for years that I see which will play out and radically shape the world of Lore.

Also I notice that the Cat was in the Hand's camp. Does say a "meow," but nice to see Verlyus there.[;)]

anime_rpg -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/20/2020 20:35:37)

Yes, I noticed Verly there as well.
Don't worry Verly. I thought the text from the Golden Hand camp was interesting, it did point out some differences in their magick system over there and also set some things up to be revealed later, plus it helped give us perspective on timeline for other quests.

I am eager to be able to go visit the other camps now though. I thought I was going to be able to do that once "The Greenguard Alliance" section ended. Please don't leave it too long as then there will be tons of quests/cutscenes/bits of dialogue for me to catch up on, as I want to do them rather than just reading on the Encyclopedia.

You could do it that once we complete each camp (Swordhave, Doomwood, etc.) we can then go back and do those quests for the other factions, but then future camps we still have to play as our original choice until we have completed that camp? Please.

Flabagast -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/21/2020 4:40:59)

I made a friend!

Looky!

scifijimmy -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/21/2020 18:31:17)

@ anime_rpg: There might be some coding issues with being able to go back to previous camps to see what others are saying while we're in the middle of this extended war/quest chain. On the topic of the chain itself, I thought that the new camp button was going to be under the "Greenguard Alliance" as well. Still despite being tight lipped on certain issues, I am getting Ostromir and Vseslava's personalities pretty well.

@ flabagast: That rare wave looks to be not from around here.[;)]

anime_rpg -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/22/2020 13:55:32)

@scifijijmmy Yes, I was thinking of splitting each camp into a different quest chains for that. If you do that it might be that each new camp you have to choose who you go with for that camp, which can still make sense canonically, priorities change, or if there needs to be a workaround it might work (might not) that you have to do the first quest in the new chain (hence locking you as your existing camp for the new camp/chain) before you can change camp in the previous chain.

@Flabagast Yes, I really like them. I can see them making him into a pet with enough player support for them. (Yes, "them" can be used in English when only talking about one 'person'.)

LurkBlackSmith -> RE: =DF= September 18th Design Notes: Book 3: The Doomwood Camps (9/23/2020 4:31:53)

When the Lagohm Seeker becomes a pet, I'm going guess we'll have more meme posts, a quick wireless ear pods avatar and fanart with it doing that one pose from uh....the other a gentlemen hat bow, the basketball/plate spinning, the yo-yo walking the dog, caramelldansen parody, rap parody, dj fanart, beach chair relaxing fanart, office worker with necktie, a lazy version riding a thund, and silly derp fanart!

So there'll be a wind version of the wastes sentinel given the dodge bonus from the wind elemental from the time maze to combo with energy one for a harder fight and regular battle is just regular damage?
