Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark

Hey there, heroes!

This week, this month's Reimagined release is sneaking up early! The main story quest "Facing Z" is now "Chains of Command", and has been rewritten and reworked.

[image]https://cms.dragonfable.com/df/images/SULENESKA5dn.png[/image]

A level 90 version of the reward has also been added, so head over to Kara's past quests in Sulen'Eska to check out the latest reimagining!

Also this week, we have 2 new customizations each for Paladin and Necromancer!

[image]https://cms.dragonfable.com/df/images/PALLYNECROdn.png[/image]

Paladin now has an updated "base" version, as well as the "Risen" and "Ornate" customization options. Necromancer now has "Fallen" and "Lich" customization options! (Yes, the Lich head has expressions!)

To access the "Risen" and "Fallen" options, Deathknight must be fully trained. To access "Ornate" and "Lich" options, the quest "Memory-Demons" in the Darkness Orb saga must be completed.

Head over to the cliffside portal in Falconreach to begin Armor Customizing!

spoiler:

Now that this re-imagining confirms Kara is no longer captured, I wonder what stake raiser would be filling up for Sir Leon and co. coming assuming the story would still involve them raiding the fort. Looks like the hero's dragon is going to be the target they're going for next- could be the new reason to raid the fort again.

On the other note, really digging the new classic Paladin look and the third Necromancer custom!

Kurtz96 -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/16/2020 22:07:26)

The second paladin and necromancer options are locked for me even though I have fully trained Deathknight. Anyone else having this bug?

EDIT: I gave another undead slayer badge and now it works.

Primate Murder -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/17/2020 0:57:56)

I have mixed feelings on the new quest.

spoiler:

On one hand, the dialogue is leagues above where it was, fleshing out Akanthus, showing Zadd's reaction to the hero (and remaining completely unrecognized ;), foreshadowing, even the idea of capturing the fort...

On the other hand, the golem fight at the end has been completely trivialized, which is rather disappointing.

How good is the new Magus Wrap? Is it BiS for anything?

RageSoul -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/17/2020 1:23:23)

^Its +15 Metal resist is a good F2P alternative option for Metal resist capes when you don't fancy the Chaosweaver set cape.

Lord Alsvinich -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/17/2020 1:32:15)

I am quite fond of these new paladin design. Can't wait for the Death Night customisation.

adammancool1 -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/17/2020 3:03:49)

I have the Risen and Ornate options unlocked on paladin however I only have the Fallen option on the Necromancer and not the Lich is this a bug?
Edit
Replayed The Memory-Demons Quest and Lich still isn't unlocked

Dratomos -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/17/2020 8:03:55)

I really enjoyed this release, wasn't expecting a Reimagined release so soon, but I'm not complaining. I really liked the quest's new structure and those new customization options look great.

Vikken101 -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/17/2020 9:08:33)

@RageSoul

I think you are misremembering, this is not the point where Kaara is captured in the story, that's later on.

Flabagast -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/17/2020 10:55:33)

Customisation for Paladin? So soon?? I feel positively spoiled!

I'm enjoying these revamped quests a lot more than I thought I would. It feels like watching a beloved series getting rebooted. It's weird to think that I quite plainly remember playing through this quest when it was first released and my glee to find Zadd, a joke villian from Frostvals past, coming such a long way to making substantial contributions to Dragonfable's new and exciting main story. And actually making golems that were formidable. It says something that I'm just as committed to this game now as I was back then, if not more.
spoiler:

Zadd is more definitely more... Zadd in this version. Less concerned about being a mean Rose crony and more focused on his ambitions on perfecting his art of golemancy, with the Rose being more of a means to an end. Early Akanthus is waaayyy more interesting now than before the revamp too. I remember his appeal at the time was being a big guy in big armour and little else. Now he seems to have a cunning brain underneath that heavy helmet. That foreshadowing of the DragonRose War was well done too.

My only gripe is that I kinda agree with Primate Murder; the loss of Zadd from the fight with the golems does make it a little underwhelming. Not that it seems out of character for Zadd to slip away behind his golems, but I feel the numbers could be pushed a bit. Either they could be a lot more tanky, or they could hit a lot harder. Preferably the latter; really make older players see how Zadd has honed his craft over the years, while making sure new players aren't too comfortable with the combat! :P

Guerra -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/17/2020 17:59:33)

@adammancool1 The Lich customization only can be accessed through the Body, Shoulders, and Arms. The Body automatically changes the Legs and your head, so if you just checked the Legs to see if it was unlocked it would appear as if it was not.

Also, the Risen armor isn't quite the same as the armor worn by the version of you in the second floor of the Inn at the Edge of Time (their's seems to be a hybrid of the Risen and Ornate sets), and they don't have new dialogue if you approach them wearing the armor.... because they're still right, I want to be them and I can't be.

GearzHeadz -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (10/24/2020 1:00:55)

Yeah my character can't use Risen armor even though I have all the requirements

Question Mark? -> RE: =DF= October 16th Design Notes: Book 3: Chains of Command, Light and Dark (11/4/2020 0:46:33)

If anyone is still having trouble with the Risen or Fallen armor- use the arrow on the left, not the arrow on the right, that fixed it for me. When I use the right arrow it's locked, when I use the left arrow it's unlocked.
