How come the DK V1 isn't customizable? :o

Kurtz96 -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/27/2020 23:05:23)

I am also disappointed in no DmK V1 customization. I guess it is because not that many people have access to it to be worth spending time to customize.

ChronoEye -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/27/2020 23:21:04)

This seems like a potent release, but there's still something that makes me not so pleased.

We've skipped Thankstaking Event entirely for this year - that's okay and all, but Friday the 13th having no war at all even if week or two after (or before) is something I can't quite accept. I have lost most ( not all, due to good, on-going story ) of my hope in regards of war events, though.

I've tried playing on alternative characters but that doesn't keep my interest up either for longer periods of time. It seems that the game nowadays is just " log in on Friday for a hour or less, then log-out and repeat every Friday " and I don't like that feeling.

I've decided to give it December ( due to Frostval ) to see if my interest hops back up - but if not, I do have to drop the game for real, sadly. It'd seem that newer players only are in favor, and the older ones aren't thought of anymore, except for once-per-month with the Inn Challenges.

( Hopefully this feedback came out in a non-toxic manner - tried to share my thought of this week + the weeks before this one in as constructive way as possible. )

honorificabi -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/28/2020 0:31:42)

Maybe so. I kind of figured DF is mostly older players, but I guess it is twice as much work to make it usable by both classes. Still sad though, I hate the new DK version :/

Verlyrus -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/28/2020 2:05:29)

DoomKnight V1 was kept on the basis that it is legacy. That means it doesn't receive any updates or adjustments unless it's actually game-shattering. That means no nerfs, no buffs, nothing. This policy also applies to things like customization and visual updates.

We decided against a Thankstaking event this year because we had a Maleurous event, and we want to keep progressing with the Reimagined releases, since there are many of them, and the sooner they get done, the better. Could we have done a small quest like last year? sure, but we felt that it would be more valuable to release a Reimagined quest, new customization options, and new house utility items instead.
Why wasn't there a war for Friday the 13th? Because it had only been a couple months since the last one. Which was also a Maleurous release. The end of the year is already filled with back to back holiday events, and having an entire third of the year without any main story progression makes things drag on and take forever.
Instead of a war, we decided to put more effort into the Maleurous quests themselves, which we hope shows.

Our schedule is a balance of variety. Each month we try to have at least some content for all sorts of players. All players are important to us, and I don't see how in any way we have given any other impression.

Unfortunately, there's only two of us working on this game full time, churning out weekly releases. There are many ways in which we could artifically lengthen play time, such as with more grinds, but we'd rather just make content that is good and memorable than something that players feel obligated to repeat over and over. If once a week isn't enough, then I'm not sure what else we can do.

EDIT: Could there be more repeatable content in the game? Sure. I do still need to update AARGH, and some grind isn't too bad.

Dratomos -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/28/2020 4:12:55)

These armor customizations were very good add to the game, I especially liked the Rocker look on DmK. And it is nice to finally own the House item for that.

As for the reimagined release this week, the opening felt a bit rushed should I say? Since I recently played the whole story with my alt, the original had maybe bit more explonation for our Hero? Even though I do like the pop-ins that come during the quest, the story itself wasn't as strong as the previous Reimagined releases.

@ChronoEye I really don't get how this is game suddenly doesn't reward older players. As an older player myself, Maleurous Saga (and Calamity) were very nostalgic for me. It only feels like that you think game suddenly favors new players because we missed one war this month (which would've been fourth one in one year if you start counting from this day to 28.11.2019 so it is not that long before the previous one) or we skipped Thankstaking series this year (and in my opinion it was a better choice. This isn't the first time a storybook release is missed due to main story and we just had a Mogloween questline). And the comment:

sounds so odd. Hasn't DF always been like that? Even back in 09 when I started playing? The game hasn't suddenly changed it's release timing, it still does come almost every friday. The Inn Challenges are very well meant for older and more experienced players and the main story is still continuing strong. So the only release that is maybe aimed for newer players is the Reimagined series now when it focuses on Early Book 3. Sure there isn't so many wars as there were back then but I do prefer good story quests than having one war every two month or so.

Just wanted to share that the Rocker shoulders break/remove DoomKnight's animations with some pretty funny results; examples here here and here. Try it out!

I also really love the Feral DoomKnight set, it's a cool counterpart to the Feral DragonLord set and a great homage to DoomKnight's original concept as a fallen DragonLord. Don't forget to check out the new Dragonslayer set either - it uses your dragon's custom colors in addition to your own which is a really cool touch. Between armor customization and fixing the old Sulen'Eska dialogue, re-imagined releases have come to be my favorite ones - DoomKnight issues notwithstanding [:D].

I think this is a wise choice. I do enjoy a good Thankstaking, but the flow of content can tend to get a little... cramped around this time of year. Sometimes it's best to make some room for content that I think players will get more out of, even if it means skipping one of the more minor holiday events.

About the quest:
spoiler:

Bajacu's Common Speech is excellent now, and Niki has a brand new face! On top of that, Clawkin lore has been even more expanded. Cuyo of the Gua'Kia, Cujo of the Buo'Kia, and who knows how many others! These changes take what the original writers did and flesh out the Clawkin a bit more.

I actually think the Cujo selling out the Dravir was a nice touch too. A bit of drama, and adds a little more substance to the tension between the two races later on in the story. It'll be interesting to see how you'll handle Mritha; I quite liked how she was written originally and I felt like her dialogue with Odgne was quite good at representing an intimate relationship between a Dragonlord and their Dragon.

I'll be sure to check out that Dragonslayer customisation too!

Guerra -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/28/2020 12:19:46)

How is the Rocker set unlocked? I've finished all the Mogloween quests, The Gnarly Guitar of Doom is in my bank, and I've beaten Jack and the sisters in the Inn as well, so I'm not sure what is necessary.

@DemonicDarkwraith Thank you very much!

DemonicDarkwraith -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/28/2020 12:31:15)

^Make sure that any version of the Gnarly Guitar of Doom is in your inventory in order to unlock the Rocker set for Doomknight

Not that I am complaining due to cramped schedule (which I am fine with and understand), but I wish there is note that there won't be any thankstaking in the DNs, I thought the book came early to let people catch up before the current event and just waiting and hoping for this year event just to find out that it is leaving w/o any event this year

Guerra -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/28/2020 14:20:09)

While using the Rocker chest, Feral shoulders and legs, and the standard arms, I noticed that the Spikes animation had changed. Has anyone else noticed any animation changes to their Doom Knight skills after customizing the armor?

AstralCodex -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/28/2020 14:30:25)

Yes. The Spikes animations are linked to the shoulders. With the Feral shoulders, the spikes are shorter and laggier. With the rocker shoulders, the spikes are just missing entirely.

darkxknight101 -> RE: =DF= November 27th Design Notes: Reimagined: Haven, Doom, and Sales! (11/29/2020 5:03:18)

Started back in 2008 and played daily until around 2011-13. Ive come back to the game and have to say that kid version of me DID NOT appreciate the depth of this game. The rich storylines, the deep game mechanics, the gorgeous art. This game is truly a gem and im glad its still going strong. I intend to play from the beginning of book 1 all the way to book 3 just so I can truly experience what DF has to offer.

Thank you to everyone that has ever worked on DF!

oh and kid version of me was smart enough to get a DA in 2009 and get the DK packs done. This update helps differentiate my V1 from V2 since im rocking feral on it and it saves the change! Will always support this game!
