mahasamatman -> Class Crafting: The SoulSmith (2/28/2021 16:41:49)

The new DK release has inspired me to try my own take on a class that is based on the items you equip. At first I thought of an artificer, but then I realized DF already has an in-game smith class, so that seemed to work best. The idea is that a soulsmith can not only craft items, but also bring out and enhance the powers of any items they use. Disclaimer: I'm in no way a part of the DF team, and this is totally unofficial. However, if the staff finds this concept interesting, I'd be super-honored. Second Disclaimer: The only things I'm gonna include in the skills description is name and effect. I'm no artist, and balancing the mana costs and cooldowns for an imaginary class seems a bit silly. This is just an exercise of the mind. So, without further ado, I present to you: The Soulsmith! Storm of Blades 50 hits of (random % between 0.5 and 4) damage. The idea is to enable weapon specials like the Blade of Awe, Warlic's Staff, etc. Unlock 1 hit of 100% damage; automatically activates your weapon's special, even if it's only on-attack. If it's the Necrotic Blade of Doom, this takes half your max HP. Drain Artifact Available only if you have an artifact (of another class) equipped. Gives 50% boost for 4 turns. Multi 5 attacks of 25% damage to each enemy. Like Storm, the idea is to use weapon specials. Combat Craft Adds a temporary weapon to your backpack. It has the same damage stats as your current weapon (maybe slightly higher?), the damage type is whatever your enemy is weakest to as you use the skill (or curse), and otherwise has high stats depending on your level. Stun Bash with the blunt side of the weapon for 3-turn stun. Shield gain +80 avoidance, for 2 turns, and double the protective stats (MPM and BPD) gained from all your equipped items for 4 turns. Base Attack Has double the weapon's normal chance for on-attack specials. Sharpen +40 crit for 6 turns, also double the crit gained from your weapon for that time, and maybe increase crit damage Weak Point attack with +200 accuracy; reduces enemy MPM and BPD by 140, and all resistance by 20, for 3 turns. Shatter Weapon Debuffs enemy for -20% boost and -50% crit for 5 turns Arm Allies Gives you +100 charisma (representing the armaments given to allies) for 10 turns. Drain Items Deals extra damage (maximum... say... 250%?) based on the combined RARITY of all your equipped items. Yes, rarity. Remember when we thought this'll be a thing? Infuse Weapon Give your weapon a random on-hit special, from among: -all res, heal (hp or mana), DoT, 1-turn stun, or others. Sacrifice Destroys your temporary weapon from Combat Craft, or unequips your current weapon (and makes you unable to re-equip it). Deals 300%, automatically activates on-hit specials. So? What do you think? Is this class too far fetched, or does the DK release prove that classes can be a bit more esoteric now? I'm already thinking about a chef (based on food & temp items)...
