Zennistrad -> What classes do you want to see after Necromancer/Archmage? (6/28/2021 11:20:17)

With the Necromancer revamp on the horizon, and Archmage coming in 2022, what are your hopes for any possible class revamps after that? I believe it was stated that Dracomancer could be next, but as far as I can tell that's not set in stone yet and it's possible we may see plans change before then.

With that being said, what would be the classes you most hope to see get revamps in the upcoming years?

Here are my picks:

1) Rogue/Fighter/Mage

Maybe cheating to include three classes here, but I think that once we've got the Tier 3s out of the way, the base three classes could be given some reworks. It would be tricky to balance them in a way so that they're all usable at maximum level without them being too powerful at low levels, but I think it's doable. More importantly, having the base three classes updated to modern standards is excellent for new and returning players, because these are the classes that low-level characters are going to be using when they come back to the game.

2) Treasure Hunter

The other Tier 3 class that was teased but never released. It's hard to say what it will entail exactly, but it's been suggested in some places (such as the Pirate Costume armors), that this would be an advancement of the Pirate class in much the same way the Assassin was an advancement of the Ninja class. I could see this as an offensive rogue class that focuses mainly on dealing high amounts of damage with DEX-based skills, with some additional skills that boost LUK use gold to empower attacks.

3) Assassin

After Necromancer gets completed, this will be the only currently implemented Tier 3 class to not be up to modern standards. There's already some really good stuff with Assassin, like the initiative bonus and the ability to attempt to instantly kill a foe, and it'd be super cool to see that updated. I could see the Assassin being more of a defensive counterpart to the Treasure Hunter, focusing more on evasion and status ailments in the way that the Ninja does

4) Dragonslayer

With Paladins already out as the dedicated anti-undead specialist, Dragonslayer would be an excellent compliment to deal with Dragons, which are likely on parwith Undead as one of the most common monster types in the game. The Golden Dragonslayer armor could also possibly be reworked to use Paladin levels instead of Shadowslayer/Nighthunter armors to help deal with the surprisingly common dracolich-type enemies, though this would likely require making the Golden Dragonslayer available only to Level 120+ characters.

5) Wizard

While Wizard's pretty insanely powerful as it is, I think that having it updated to modern standards will still be overall a good thing, especially for Mage characters that aren't able to afford the absurdly powerful Bloodmage armors. There's also dearth of really good mage-focused armors for Earth and Wind, and the elemental robes for these elements could reasonably fill those gaps in the case that nothing else comes out in the next several years. And while Archmage is very likely to be far more focused on general spellcasting and non-elemental magics, Wizard has the advantage of being specifically focused on elemental magic, something that makes it unique among most other classes. Wizard is also likely going to be a prerequisite for both Necromancers and Archmages, so having this required class updated will also benefit a large number of players looking to get into Tier 3 classes.

Normally I would say Assassin, because it is my favorite amongst the classes, but I say number 1.

I remember there was a "Beginner Experience" thread here before, they were talking about how boring and tenacious leveling up in the beginning was.

I think the Rogue, Fighter and Mage classes should be updated first. First impressions matter for people new to the game.

^^ This one is the one you’re talking about: https://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=22391020

Anyways, I would rather we focus on updating and fixing the existing classes personally. And also just updating content in general. There isn’t really any sort of guided progression in game so I would hope that the team going forward would focus on fixing and updating the game content instead of constantly putting things on the back burner. Already there’s a ton of things in that sort of category which is making the game increasingly difficult to play without the right reference and know how.

To that end also I would like to see updates to as I said before classes that are more melee and ranged focused like assassin, ninja, martial artist, and berserker. Throughout the entire experience even through the end game warriors and rangers are always at a disadvantage.

Just a small aside: on the note that there is no guided progression, unlike most RPG’s where there is THE storyline and THE progression AQ does not have this and there is a great deal of autonomy regarding how to play it. Most RPG’s to that end usually tailor the equips and choices to fit in that guided progression. If there none then the game has to be designed so that everything is somewhat adhering to standard or else the game experience is left subpar

Beastmaster. Double guests but better for higher levels sounds too good to not have available in addition to the class having one of the older ways to nuke a monster with a bit of effort on your part as well as making use of the piureheart shield I believe. There's a lot of potential in an update and there's a lot of beast builds around making it worth considering.

Dracomancer, that class got me into AQ

Well as PD mentioned, there seems to be a focus on going back and bringing the old stuff up as a priority than adding stuff that doesn't currently exist even if it was mentioned that it was going to become a class (treasure hunter, mercenary, archmage, etc.). I personally find that well made and fundamentally sound items far outweigh and have much more long term enjoyable play than just a bunch of new stuff.

With that being said, most players now-a-days are the end game players. New players are rare and honestly most people I've met didn't even play or this game or even knew it existed back when everyone played the popular Runescape and still till this day. Leveling up doesn't take that long. Which would mean end game gear would be beneficial to the largest quanity of players for the most substiated amount of time considering you will continue to level up instead of down. Therefore the teir 1 (and kinda 2) classes, with no expressed desire from AQ to make those or every class have end game capability, don't provide that much long term payoff intended from the going back and doing foundation work. So while a big contender based off of how old it is, doesn't put dracomancer or scholar to have a need with the same priority. And with the revamp of two teir 3 classes, it would be reallllllly.... if the last teir 3 class didn't get an update.

With that out of the way, let's look at what we have. While there are other teir 1 classes, the first 3 classes upon creating your character and the main teir 1 classes fundamental to pretty much every mideval fantasy world are warrior/fighter, mage, and rogue:
NOTE: Keep in mind, NONE of the teir 3 classes are perfectly a straight shot from teir 1 classes, but given the majority of them being clearly from at least 2 of the same path, its fair to substantiate what path it belongs to regardless of the other prerequisite.
• Warriors/fighters- Have Paladin [Knight=(Fighter+Knight)]+Mage; with advanced (lvl 150) armors
• Mages- (As mentioned) Are getting necromancer [Wizard=(Mage+Wizard)]+Beastmaster; with advanced (assumingly lvl 150) armors
• Rogues- Have Assassin [Ninja=(Rogue+Ninja)]+Scholar; currently just a lvl 75 armor

Now, while they aren't really called "classes" they are have game application and skills like classes:
• Beastmasters- Have Sol Neko (an all encompassing array of dual elemental lvl 150 armors)
• Rangers- Have Luna Neko (an all encompassing array of dual elemental lvl 150 armors)
Hybrids- Have Werepyre (a good few lvl 150 armors)

Additionally:
• Werewolf (multiple lvl 150 armors) is clearly warrior/fighter focused
• Vampire (multiple lvl 150 armors) is clearly mage focused
• How necromancer is looking, it could very well be very decently utilized by Beastmasters
• Paladin can be effectively used by hybrids

With everything being said, I believe it would be best for Assassin to get the update, especially due that playstyle having a lack of end game options.
