Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make

Hey there, heroes!

Congratulations on the completion of The Reckoning war! The war will stay active for one more week, becoming static (and losing Defender Medal drops) with next week's release.

But now, on to this week's update! The Arena at the Edge of Time has a new challenge board: Tenets of Devotion!

And for the first available challenges...

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/TENETSdn.png[/image]

Face off against challenge versions of Uaanta and Notha- then both at once - to earn Uaanta's Maker-Touched Zweihander weapon, and Notha's Spell backpiece!

These awesome items can be clicked on to change their appearances as well!

If you think you have what it takes to keep the balance, head over to the Inn at the Edge of Time and face this new challenge!

We also have... a lot of Dragon Coin updates this week!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/Promo-GroveTender2.png[/image] [image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/Promo-Astravia4.png[/image]

The Neo Grove Tender set, and the Arms of Astravia set are now available from $19.95 Dragon Coin packages!

The Neo Grove Tender set has the same special effect as the old Grove Tender set (which is still available), while the Arms of Astravia set has a similar special effect.

But wait, there are 3 weapons with the Arms of Astravia! When you purchase the bundle, you'll recieve a weapon token that you can turn in at the Black Market Moglin in order to choose your weapon. You can convert these weapons back into tokens by upgrading them to level 90, then swapping them for a token.

These weapons will weakness seek against enemies that resist Fire (not including All resistance), and equipping the wings and helm will also increase your Bonus and Crit!

To go with the new Arms of Astravia, we're also introducing a new catalyst for the Paladin class!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/ASTRAVIACATALYSTdn1.png[/image]

The Royal Astravian Catalyst can be purchased in the Book of Lore for 500 Dragon Coins! This awesome customization set for Paladin looks incredible!

Also, September's Dragon Coin special has arrived!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/Scythe-DCSep2021-Promo.png[/image]

The Pirate's Bane scythe can be clicked to transform and grow into new forms... provided you've hoarded enough gold!

And that... phew... is all for this week!

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/3/2021 22:08:05)

After doing a slight tap to the solos of this new challenge set, definitely a tricky pair.

1. Both foes invalidate Good and Evil element weapons by just passive resistances, although Notha will alternate (and overlap every once in a while) whichever of the two elements she'll want you to hit her with (GL for those who don't have Apotheosis).
2. Uaanta will randomly start her element shift with any of the 8 standard elements and reset that cycling once she switches from All to Boost mode. So far she could be overcome with Pirate, although I found it slow. Her debuffs and healing are strengthened so as to be worthy of being an Inn foe. She'll hit you HARD with a Good attack when she gearshifts.
3. Notha has formidable sniping and reflector shielding on top of whatever statuses she uses on herself and onto the player.

As for the rewards, the weapon is BiS offensive-type for Good (although its stat/resist template takes homage to Teacher & Student rewards, so don't expect much dmg output). The cape is budget CW Cloak.

For the new DC packages, GT is wow. Finally, players can have an alternative to being a failed Groot cosplay. Astravia... that's a weird weakness seek. Might have some use somewhere, perhaps an alternative FireRes buffer in Egomaniacs and a bit on Yalla.

EDIT: after doing another go with DK...

1. Uaanta's elemental shift is randomly constructed, but the part where she resets that when she calls upon the Makers is true. When she is in Energy, her next action is guaranteed to be an HP to 1 maneuver, so she's the type who can scramble your run if you're wide open to that. When she forgoes All for Boost, the Boost ramps up per Maker call. Also, it is possible for her to back to back an element when she calls for the Makers (bad luck if you get a back to back Energy phase). Rotation is (phase shift>dive)x8, then ad infinitum Maker call (+Boost)>(phase shift>dive)x8. The rework to her debuffs is actually some are weakened, others boosted.

2. Notha will allow player's discretion of Good or Evil when she Engineer/Nythera ripoff's you, and will last until she harnesses (snaps) Celestial and Infernal powers, although I vaguely remember that she does strengthen her GoodRes more somewhere in her rotation prior to that nuke.

Plutonium -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/4/2021 0:56:45)

anyone have any luck beating Notha yet?

EDIT 1: "IT'S DINNERTIME!" Just beat Notha Twice. Now onto the Duo

spirit of greed -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/4/2021 2:48:53)

Eh i know why we get the arena challenges but we literally just beat these bosses last week.

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/4/2021 3:33:27)

Well, since it has been a long while, but this ain't the first. The Nefarious Board's Blood Moon column was released a week after the Blood Moon war. Heck, this is even less than a week, so it's not unusual for us already to have barely a respite to deal with war bosses in their Inn forms. And while I have yet to fully analyze Inn Notha's fight patterns, extrapolation from Inn Uaanta has enough to conclude that both should be a bit different from their story mode counterparts based on rotation and potency of effects. Nothing that hadn't been done before. Plus, the fact that the devs delayed the war's end till Monday US time showed that the effort poured there would put more toll if they decided to release an entirely different Inn fight.

Dratomos -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/4/2021 7:40:02)

Oh what a duo. I wanted to see these two in the Inn with their potential fully unleashed and Doverly didn't disappoint. The arena's backgrounds looked great and the duo music was just as good as the music we got in the war. Hard duo for sure, it will take a lot of gear-swapping to do it without food. But the rewards were great, I really liked Uaanta's blade.

For duo, I do recommend taking Uaanta first. As her elemental switching is random, her energy attack can come in a really bad place. Notha isn't really that big of a problem until you lower her health to 50% and she goes to unraveling mode. I even brought Stan back against her and that precious orb really helped a lot. And after Notha starts Unraveling, your pet dragon can shield you and then you can defeat Notha together with Uragiri and Elemental Supernova.

Now I do wish we will get more Maleurous in the Arena. I really want that Remthalas customization option for Kathool Adept and Myalos customization option for Technomancer.

Kurtz96 -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/4/2021 23:54:43)

Beat the duo with ranger, needed food though. But people have apparently won with DmK V2 without food. How?

The ErosionSeeker -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/5/2021 0:49:21)

By using every trick in the book except food, of course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yeKD5rhkqs
Stan Orb to increase stun chance from 50% to 65%, Malefic Grasp, VIK for free damage and -res, VB into Drain before Notha's second nuke pair, Corrupt>Linger on Notha's attack phase to safely DoT her to 4450, Favor>Corrupt>Carve>Linger to guarantee the kill.

Plutonium -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/5/2021 2:41:28)

This duo will probably result in me profusely ripping my hair out [:@]

EDIT I: SCREW IT!
EDIT II: just got Maker-Touched Zweihander III [:D], next up Notha's Spell III

NEW EDIT III: just got Notha's Spell III [:D]

AstralCodex -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/7/2021 2:45:00)

Thanks for the release! I really appreciated the art behind this week's release, especially given the short time schedule. The backgrounds behind Uaanta, Notha, and the Duo were all incredible.

However, I didn't actually have much fun with the fight, despite beating it with both DoomKnight and (full budget) Technomancer. It feels like my wins weren't my own, but due to Uaanta deciding not to own me with Energy Empowerment/other empowerments at the wrong time, or deciding to be stunned with Drillbit with 85 immo, or deciding not to crit through BPD.... etc. The combination of high difficulty and RNG mechanics with little counterplay makes for a frustrating experience.

I think that there's a big chance the fight will become more enjoyable over time as players figure out better ways to deal with Uaanta. There's a bunch of niche strategies that players really haven't explored yet - for example, maybe BDL with MPM stack will turn out to be great at ignoring Uaanta's RNG in the duo, and be able to slowly grind her out through her heals and +all. After all, people felt very disenchanted about the Fallen Purpose fight, but that's become a lot more enjoyable over time as more strategies were developed.

But even if the fight turns out to be a bit frustrating for players in the end, I think it's understandable and not really a mark against the skill of the DF team. I think it just reflects the reality that they worked through the weekend for a truly impressive Monday War Finale release and so are understandably a bit burnt out for the Friday Inn release. (Many players were expecting the Inn release to be delayed a week as a result!)

Again, thanks to the DF team for the release!

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/7/2021 4:22:02)

The BDL shield stack is functional against solo Uaanta, but that's not the issue here. The main issue is when we go duo. While I have yet to touch Notha once more, she is pretty manageable so long as you keep an eye on what she becomes weak to. All iterations of DLs require that you unleash your wings for two spirit skills to even safely clobber her. Otherwise, all you'll be left with is a small boost to All to compensate for a long CD shield in facetanking highly neutral elements, with Fear living up to its namesake. So far, the only mental simulation that I have confidence on the two is Pyro, which is a class I have barely a grip on (barely won against UnravEX a few hours ago using a softcore kit within my arsenal's capacity plus a basic understanding of its burst offensive). It's DoT will shift elements per recast as long as the widget is in weapon element mode, allowing for extra chips out of her HP that other DoT classes would've been unable to do, plus can maintain Fire mode when confronting Uaanta. All that's left is to not be open to a heartless angel strike.

Kurtz96 -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/7/2021 4:39:10)

I finally beat the duo with DmK V2. [:D]

Good News: no food, no extra potions (2 health, 1 mana used)
Bad News: used red fruit, needed a final turn malefic stun (otherwise would have needed food).

Fire alandry -> RE: =DF= September 3rd Design Notes: Arena at the Edge of Time: The Balance We Make (9/13/2021 10:13:55)

Okay. Surprisingly, I won the due twice with CW- and I started with Notha.
Of course, the method isn't reliable at all because of Uannta's RNG.
Probably it's much better to defeat Uaanta first, but the temptation to kill Notha within 5/6 turns (vengeance> eG+untangle>+crit/siphon>aegis>rebuke(>eG+anything)) was too powerful[:D]
Took me many tries, but finally I have the rewards!

First try: 1 food 1 HP
Second try: 2 foods 0 HP
