Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates!

Hey there, heroes!

This week, we return to the Six Heroes storyline!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/ANOMALYdn.png[/image]

Last time, Falwynn and friends awoke to a fiery nightmare and faced Lysander, a noble of Swordhaven who commanded a powerful form of Wind magic!

This time, emerging from the chaos... wait... this isn't right...

To continue the Six Heroes storyline, head over to Book 3 Falconreach, and speak to Ash!

Also this week, introducing keyboard controls!

It's been something long requested, so I'm glad I was able to figure it out this week.

Introducing... the hotkeys!

On the login screen, pressing "Enter" will try to log you in.

On the Character select screen, after selecting a character, pressing "Enter" will let you play as the character.

Once you're in game, we have a few interface hotkeys.

Pressing J will open or close the Book of Lore.

Pressing I will open or close your inventory.

Pressing H will open or close the Dragon Amulet interface.

Pressing Escape will open or close the Options menu.

Pressing Escape will also close a variety of other interfaces.

In quests and towns, you're able to use either WASD or your Arrow Keys to move your character!

In battle, skills and potions have been mapped to keys as well.

N will use a Health Potion on your turn, if you have one.

M will use a Mana Potion on your turn, if you have one.

B will use your Trinket skill if it is available.

Then, from left to right, skills are mapped as follows:

Z X 1 2 3 4 5 [SPACE] 6 7 8 9 0 C V

Upon completing a battle, you can press [SPACE] to continue.

Certain quests will not allow the use of hotkeys.

You can turn hotkeys off or on in the Options menu.

This is still a pretty new system, so please let us know if you run into any issues or problems!

Also this week, introducing Pirate customization options!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/TLaPD2021dn.png[/image]

Pirate now has a new base look: The Swab!

We also have the previous base look as Matey, available once your complete Pirate training.

The Navigator Hat is now used to unlock Navigator customization.

We also have the new Marauder Pirate customization, which requires the Marauder Pirate Catalyst, available in the Book of Lore for 500 DCs.

Coming soon, we'll also include Dread Pirate and color custom customizable Swab!

And that's... A LOT for this week!

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/17/2021 21:14:38)

Well, the hotkey function is definitely going to be a welcome addition. The next step for that would be at least to place a hint/interface so that players know what each hotkey does without having to alt+tab to a browser reference.

As for the storyline
spoiler:

Looks like there's a lot of mysteries behind our resident disciple. Like, who is that stereotypical fantasy/isekai blonde elf at the end. Looks like our hero ain't a good instructor though, but Goggs are supposedly held in high regard in the AQ side of the lorian multiverse, so won't be surprising why she just runs for the hills. For those who don't know, the monster chasing Falwynn is similar to AQ's Gogg, an ambush predator with terrible resistances outside of Ice and Earth but supposedly potent firepower.

Hint to puzzle resolution: LANTERN, CROSSBOW, MONOLITH

Can't wait to see what the coming soon Pirate customization will look like.

Somewhat out of topic, but what happened to the weapon skill that was supposed to be applied to the Discordia reward? Just reminding since we did get quite a month ender of a release last August.

Flabagast -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/17/2021 21:36:59)

Jeepers Verlyrus, I really don't know much about coding but these keyboard controls must have taken a buttload of work. I thought I'd never see the day that I'd be able to move my character around with WASD.

spoiler:

That part with the Gogg was probably meant to be scary, but as an AQ player I couldn't help but be amused by seeing its goofy face in Falwynn's nightmare mindpalace of all places.

Also, we got another Wood Elf now? I don't recall seeing the name Fairwind anywhere, but I'm excited to see if this character has any significance to any recent-ish world building concerning Elves and their various sub-races.

Navigator customisation huh? That's hat's been sitting in my bank for a while now so it'll be nice to dust it off.
Edit: Welp, just found out much to my surprise that I never actually trained Pirate. Guess I know what my afternoon plans are.

All in all a heck of a release!

Primate Murder -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 1:35:44)

What are some of the more interesting paths people found in the anomaly?

spoiler:

So far, I found two dead ends - the one with the entity and by repeatedly looking at the body.

Aethervic3 -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 2:19:07)

spoiler:

You can use CALL with Falwynn, Lysander, Faust, Sophie, monolith, Kathool and Aelita

The text in the quest description is "genre shift" moved up 6 letters
The Binary reads "CALL her name"

ChronoEye -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 3:16:05)

I hate this quest. Ugh, no idea of what to do.

Ĉon -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 3:17:03)

You can actually scroll down a little further in the quest description, the text is cut off unless you do.

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 3:37:42)

@Chrono, the quest's design is similar to those used in the quests where:
1. We first encountered the Adepts during Water orb.
2. The Phobeist gave us a taste of her power during the Thorns saga.
3. The access requirement for the hidden shop in Tizheruk is.

I already provided generous hints, but lemme give you some more.
spoiler:

1. Disengage Full Screen for safety measures if it wasn't clear already in the quest's instructions.
2. Type in "help" then press "enter" on your keyboard. It'll provide you with the basic commands.
3. Go ahead and figure out the meaning of the hints I already provided on top of the basic commands.

dragon_master -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 7:31:57)

@Primate Murder
spoiler:

More dead ends include LOOK-ing at the window repeatedly.
Another is CALL-ing dead.

Primo_ -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 7:45:37)

PIRATE CATALYST and CUSTOMS!
Been waiting for these, they look really good!
These customs alongside the interesting quest and another major +QoL really makes this release a special one, hoping to see more in the future :)
Hats off to Doverlix, Aeon, and other people involved for this release

Faraam -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 8:10:56)

This was an...interesting endeavor. Stumbled my way to the end entirely on accident.

GLaDOS -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/18/2021 15:02:36)

Did anyone manage to trigger this message from one of Dove's teaser images?

"Falwynn's CALL was absorbed by the darkness. And nobody came."

Fire alandry -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/19/2021 15:20:55)

Honestly, can't keep track with this saga:/
I love the writing, the characters, the plot, but the long time between quests makes me forget where we stand right now every time.
Guess I'll have to replay from the start once it's over to fully enjoy it.

Anyway, great quest. I love the "fear's mazes", and though short, I enjoyed this one very much. "Someone is already sitting on the chair":()

Now I want an Inn board with Inn-level fear-maze, maybe other types of mazes (ruins of sil, perhaps) as well. Could be amazing.

Chaosweaver Amon -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (9/20/2021 12:01:56)

Usually, I'm not a fan of this style of quest, but seeing how long it's been since the last one from this storyline, I'm happy with it. Nothing beat a nice lil cliffhanger.

In regards to hotkeys, I didn't really care about it at first, but now that I'm getting used to them, I've noticed that battles/gameplay are much faster. Farming and wars are going to be so much more efficient! Big fan of them now!

cowboy01 -> RE: =DF= September 17th Design Notes: Six Heroes, Hotkeys, and Pirates! (10/24/2021 1:40:34)

Still waiting on the Dread Pirate Customizations. But please, don't rush them. hoping they'll be EPIC. like maybe an admiral with bone shoulders, or something like that. (Possibly?)
