Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Reasons to Fight

Hey there, heroes!

This week, the Book 3 main story continues! With The Great One's words echoing in the heads of the Greenguard Alliance, you make your way back to Dragonsgrasp to rally the DragonLords.

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/REASONSdn.png[/image]

Meanwhile, Jaania's experiments continue, while the Rose airship floats over Swordhaven...

Head over to Book 3 Dragonsgrasp in The Awakened Depths section of The Greenguard Alliance to play this week's release: Reasons to Fight!

A new DragonLord customization is now available! The Unhallowed DragonLord customization is unlocked by unlocking all of Mogloween Chapter 16's Trick-or-Treat neighborhoods.

Also, we have a few bugfixes!

  • Fixed a bug where the Autumn's Cull scythe would not properly change elements.
  • Fixed some issues where various cultist enemies/cursed skeleton in the Calamity saga could stick on their turns.
  • Fixed an issue where entering certain houses using keyboard controls could lead to loading errors.
  • Went through and standardized all Energizer enemies. Should all now be selectable, no longer freeze when attacking, no longer cause issues when defeated by an aoe attack, and have proper select arrow and damage number positioning.
  • Manahunter enemies in the quest "Smoke in the Trees" should now be selectable using the mouse.
  • Fixed an issue where using keyboard controls to enter certain houses could cause load errors.
  • Fixed a bug where using keybinds after a battle could cause incorrect movement speeds.
  • Tentatively fixed an issue where certain characters who had completed "The War Room" but not "Mission Possible", were unable to unlock The Shears after completing "Trust". (Affected players will need to re-play Trust one more time.)
  • Fixed a bug where returning from quests in the Awakened Depths chapter of Book 3 would play the incorrect music.

And that's all for this week!

I really enjoyed the quest - I'd say it's my favorite one in the Awakened Depths Questline, even though there's no combat. It feels like things are happening plotwise, and the exposition feels a lot more natural than in last month's The Great One. And with all the pretty new animations in the cutscenes, it makes sense why the release was delayed.

Props as always to the DF team.

    spoiler:

I like the part where Ostromir randomly confesses to regularly murdering children and says he can still hear their screams before everyone just continues on like nothing has happened

Once again, a release worthy of the wait. For those who haven't tried yet, the Unhallowed DL customization is CC, so you can be edgy and it'll not interfere with your color sensibilities (unless it's terrible already).

As for the latest Proclamation Arc installment...
    spoiler:

Oh, Jaania. Still trying to be original with the soul manipulating stuff that Azaveyr has already refined and is just Tuesdays for them for the sake of superiority of a so-called "just" cause. At least our resident GH members were strong enough to admit that their nation's discoveries on that field were not all too ethical (if it wasn't already clear enough that the origin story of the soulweaving field isn't already tragic as it is horrifying, which I doubt she has yet heard of). For once, swallow your pride and follow your enigmatic executioner's words instead of blowing up your reserve of golem souls (how many were there anyway besides those incapacitated by our hero).

Nice to see that our Mysterious G and potato guy are back after the Calamity and Tomix II/Void Ship sagas. Hopefully they have some insight into that doom core thing that Akanthus coerced Se... erm, Amadeus, to modify. A raw source of corrupting energies plus a barely thinking straight mage won't do the world any favors if things go south.

    spoiler:

    "Your potato is correct."
I think I have a new favorite sentence in DF.

The new customisation is fantastic, I love how it looks with my colours!

    spoiler:

So it seems the dialogue with the Hero before the meeting with the Dragonlords depends on which faction we're with? I got some wholesome self-affirmation from Kara, saying that though she regrets leaving her responsibilities at Sulen'Eska, she knows being there with the Hero and the Greenguard Alliance is more important and she'll do whatever she can to help us. Nothing too revelatory, but I thought it was nice. Might have to look up what the Golden Hand's and Hansa's were later.

    @Laeon val Observis
Are they just from golems though? I thought they were mere constructs made to simulate the Mana Core when we last saw Jaania, but she said she could see flashes of memories and emotions from them. And as far I understand golems are just constructs of magic themselves, with no capacity of emotion. These must be human souls. She's really no better than the Magesterium now, despite how much she denies it. I hate to think where she might be getting them from...

As much as I want to be optimistic about Eirn and Circe (and Yix too :D) getting to the bottom of Jaania's and/or Akanthus' plans I can't help but think they may end up as collateral damage if they get too close to that airship, especially with that Doom Device onboard. I suppose there are more subtle and indirect ways of foiling such plans though. Hopefully we'll get to check in on Warlic, Alexander and Sepulchure soon to see if they can help in any way too.

@below Ah of course! How could I forget? My apologies. That's some tiny comfort that she isn't killing people herself to get them.

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= November 12th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Reasons to Fight (11/14/2021 6:02:54)

^You might wanna rerun some SH arc quests to jog your memory, and I thought my word choicing was ambiguous at worse.
    spoiler:

Have you forgotten what happened during the Gala and the findings of Z after we left for Azaveyr and the Rose plus Swordhaven's royal family had to deal with the fallout of the first confrontation with the Magesterium? We KO'd quite some golems, and Z found those "phylacteries" of souls in them, which are pretty much the very souls of the peeps who get Harvested for their flesh to become mobile MP nexuses for magesters. Unless of course you think Jaania's in good graces with necromancers. If Azaveyran soul magicks are as advanced enough as to cause amateurs to even construct the likes of Fool's Wish and delusionals like Seal of Ativa, there's little doubt that Z's hypothesis is close if not spot on. Perhaps golemized souls would've rung differently, as based on our short strip to the Shapeless Empire's capital, even though they retain memories and emotions of their human times (as Written in the Soul makes clear), they're just basically servitors/arco-flagellants bound to the Magesterium's commands for the sake of "salvation".

Vaalirus -> RE: =DF= November 12th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Reasons to Fight (11/14/2021 11:43:16)

Well this has been quite the intriguing release.

    spoiler:

We already knew that Jaania's plan was to manipulate the threads of the mana core and by likely chance utilize some manner of weaving techniques to achieve this outcome. But to basically burn out these souls even if only remnants is messy. Getting a little bit concerned that she mentioned the elemental alignment of of soul allies as well as pulling at a single aspect to pull off her spell. The reason why it's concerning is because it almost sounds like she'd go for the most basic aspect she could link up a connection to in order to weave the threads of a soul and in her case that would be the element of ice. Now it's possible there could be something else more specific that could be even easier for her to tug at that all souls carry, instead of the elemental ties of soul allies, that could provide the same link, like say Fear which might be able to actually give her results with however many souls she has left to test her spell out but I find it extremely sus at the moment that Jaania a mage proficient in ice would be more than happy to have an elemental spirit that would have just be the right quality and obedience to pull off what she needs...or one she wouldn't mind using in desperation by force if all other options just happened to fall apart right at the end.

Also couldn't help but notice that in the Rose version in our talks with Hansa that she mentioned that we are a beacon for those who want their dreams fulfilled. Funny word choice that.

Not sure I want to know what the Golden Hand's experiments with children were all about...or whether or not they were with human children or a stranger possibility being children from the Wastes meaning they were running tests on even elementals which is...yeah.

And Lestrad being Lestrad I see

GLaDOS -> RE: =DF= November 12th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Reasons to Fight (11/18/2021 6:10:42)

Man, I'm really glad we're starting to see more more of Yix and Eirn again. The whole gnomish culture hasn't been getting enough attention recently!

1girlhousefan -> RE: =DF= November 12th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Reasons to Fight (11/20/2021 6:36:45)

Really seems like Jaania needs to get a SoulAlly if she's going to keep doing this.
