Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/11/2021 0:22:15)

Looks like this ain't gonna be an easy weeding. Looking forward to whatever additions to the latest sailing map will be put in with the reimagination next week. For now I got the standard issue Mimic encounter and a ship defense wave hinting at what the enemy is capable of.
spoiler:

While GM Hansa seems to be still affected by the anti-magic fervor of the early Rose, nice to see that she still tries her best to cast aside differences for the greater good. Hopefully the DL advance party is faring well. With what I've seen in the ship defense, the unknown status of the dragonslayers that stayed behind during the fall of Dragesvard, and the mere name of the beings including the word "Hollow", I don't think this'll be a fungus we'll want spreading in any garden, let alone growing on us.

Katsushika Hokusai -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/11/2021 1:08:08)

Nice to see another sailing map, and the aesthetics of the free quests were really nice. I love the winter tundra look, and the cosmetic elf items look great as well!
spoiler:

The two new bosses were also nice. We got a buffed Gelungius (can be found at the small island at the middle of the left side) and a new crustacean Yllmar. (Tyndurspawn, can be found at the very bottom left corner) I personally love it's design.
Also glad to see the antithesis weapons comeback cause I missed them the first time round.

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/11/2021 2:47:22)

^ 0.0 well, time to whip them up a bit, even though it might suck... And just did and won on both. Just no luck to earning anything extravagant.
spoiler:

Yeah, albino Gelunguis is only beefier in HP, and that -Ice debuff seems to be practically loopable. Tyndurspawn, on the other hand, has a looping MPM shield once its HP goes critical and a weak heal (no Yllmar flashbacks, rest assured). Nothing a 100 AST dragon can help at. The -50% Boost debuff might turn it into a bit of a slog. Just watch out for the breath attack. It stings a lot, and inflicts a Null-element HP DoT. Since both have races that don't inflict elemental weakness, DmK attacks are 30% weaker on the Favor-Inner finish.

Flabagast -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/11/2021 6:13:24)

Feels good to be exploring more of the western ocean! It feels like it was ages ago when we set sail for Azaveyr.

spoiler:

I should have known that motif in the corner wasn't just for show! The very angry molten lobster drops quite a beautiful cloak that's about on par with the Unael Protectorate; it has slightly less defence, offers +10 Water, Fire and Darkness resistance and gives WIS and END in place of Bonus and Crit. I got a Sea Chicken from the Elder Ice Dragon. Not sure if I'll hold on to it.

It seems this mycelium is infecting the wildlife, and even turning the Ice Elves of the Northlands into mushroom people. Yikes! And as Laeon hinted at, I fear those Dragonslayers may have suffered a similar fate...

Pointless Edit: I did not keep the Sea Chicken.

Dratomos -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/11/2021 6:15:55)

Uu, sailing. I've missed that somewhat. I'm glad that Doverly are making each of this Proclamation arcs feel unique and especially this one. The previous ones had similarities, so I'm glad they are taking their time with this one!

spoiler:

As for the content itself in the Depths, very interesting. Those new enemies were looking a bit frightening, interested to learn more about them. And we got to see Book 3 Ice elves! I wonder if they'll have any part in this.

As for the these new challenge bosses, they weren't as annoying as Yllmar. Although I didn't get any kind of special reward from them and I wonder if there is one. If there is, it's annoying to once again start farming this, if the loot pool has so much junk in it as it has in Yllmar fight.

Primate Murder -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/11/2021 10:29:27)

I really liked the music in this week's release. Tyndurspawn's, in particular, was both fast-paced and epic.

spoiler:

I also look forward to finding out what drove out all these powerful monsters.

Alex the Conqueror -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/11/2021 15:00:05)

First post on here, been a lurker since forever. I am trying to challenge The Choatic Dragonbond but it is not letting me challenge it. It is giving me the "You must first defeat the previous Lords of Chaos to proceed." pop up. I thought Verly did away with that requirement with the previous Design Notes?

Has anyone else had this issue? I have submitted a bug report but wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue.

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/11/2021 15:11:00)

^Since this is your first post, just a piece of advice: make sure what you're posting is on topic. In this case, your inquiry is appropriate in either last week's DNs post or the Q&A. Answer your question, have you tried offing the Dragonbond segment in downward order (Vath>Stalagbite>Chaotic Dragonbond)? The Twins and Dragonbond still has the locks that you have to clear their segments in such a way. If you have, then no need to create another bug report. For any other specifics on how to down them should the recommended actions above resolve your issue, you can either make a post on the Battle Strategy thread or watch YT vids on AstralCodex and Korriban Gaming.

docblade -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/12/2021 1:42:43)

I really like the the fights and the music. But although i know bosses are supposed to do heavy damage, i suppose its not intended that the fire breath attack of Tyndurspawn knocks me down from 2.4k to a measly 200?

AstralCodex -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/12/2021 4:38:26)

I really liked the Sailing minigame! The ambiance of the random hollow encounters as well as the three quests (Ice Elf Hunting Grounds, Tyndurspawn, and Elder Ice Dragon) is quite good, and I had fun sailing around fighting Hollows and discovering giant monsters.

I especially enjoyed the inclusion of Tyndurspawn and Elder Ice Dragon as overworld bosses, as it makes the world feel richer and full of unknowns. It really gives the sailing map a "Here Be Dragons" vibe, which is a great fit to a fantasy rpg like DragonFable. Tyndurspawn in particular is incredibly stunning visually, and I really enjoyed discovering the gigantic crab and speculating on what it's doing there.

I'm a bit torn on the difficulty of the bosses, however. I'm fine with Elder Ice Dragon just dying to DragonSlayer in 5 turns, as it gives DragonSlayer an actual use. However, the Tyndurspawn feels like it's a bit undertuned - I managed to facemash through it on my first try with BDL without Dragon or any Defender's, DC, or hard-to-get inn gear. It really feels like the visual impact of the big crab doesn't jive with its 13 turn rotation that you don't really have to pay attention to and its permanent +80 MPM at 50% HP. It's significantly weaker than Yllmar, but shares Yllmar's weaknesses to stuns and -Bonus debuffs.

My main criticism of the release is the glut of cosmetics. I understand if Verly doesn't want to make another Yllmar (that is, a somewhat challenging Overworld boss fight that locks something BiS behind its loot table) after all the player complaints about the previous one, but a pile of NDA cosmetics (that is, without free storage) just doesn't feel like it's really worth farming for. I feel like this isn't helped by the sheer amount of cosmetics we're getting these days. In the inn alone, we got two cosmetics for the Chaos Lords release this month, before that we got a cosmetic for Goose Dragon and a pile of cosmetics for AARGH.

TFS -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/12/2021 7:10:11)

^Agreed on cosmetics, especially NDA ones. I don't think there's much overlap between people who'd be willing to pay extra money to keep a non-functioning item - especially at the potential expense of a functioning one - and people who are interested in killing a big dragon 20 times. Which is unfortunate because the items actually look quite nice.

I'm a really big fan of Gelunguis and Tyndurspawn, discovering huge sea monsters out in the game's world is a great compliment to the tabletop-like nature of the sailing quest. It lends a sense of adventure and immersion(tm) to the game's world that I always love to see. I disagree with complaints about their (lack of) difficulty, though - these clearly aren't intended as active challenge bosses analogous to Yllmar. That monster was deliberately released in place of an Inn challenge that month, and as such is extremely difficult and guards valuable loot. Outside of the 5-digit HP bars, these seem to be closer analogues to normal story bosses and their drops are less valuable than the thrill of discovering them - I doubt that's accidental.

Allos -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/12/2021 14:39:50)

*Hansa please*, we were doing so well...
The apperance of these Hollow enemies and their likely implications are terrifying, however, and i'm here for it.
I really like these sailing bits, its really fun to explore and i'm looking forwards to doing that some more next week! I specially like finding these big boy enemies, for the same reasons mentioned above. I also don't mind that they're not really very difficult, I think its a good sweet spot of "gonna whoop you if you're too casual and unprepared" and "with decent enough gear and a brain you'll be just fine". works rather well for something you'll usually need some runs to actually get the drop, as well. Tyndurspawn's art was also really good!

What i did not like, however, is the amount of NDA cosmetics, for some reason. I don't really get NDA cosmetics, but i think me saying "NDA cosmetic bad" is a bit too simplistic so let me (on top of what was already said by others) approach this from some different angles: (i apologize for the wall in advance)

Inventory can be a bit of a problem in this game, 20 starting slots is really hard to get around with (and increasing that should probably be considered, but thats not the discussion i want now). The first 10 extra slots are pretty cheap though so its pretty reasonable to buy these. From my personal experience, that 30 is just barely enough to work with, but is FINE. Prices do get ridiculous soon after that, tho, so buying extra inventory for the cosmetics isn't great.
Bank slots, to be fair, does also have fairly reasonable prices at first as well, and makes sense for items you'll wanna carry sometimes but not neccesarely mainstays you'll use very frequently. Bank has the same scaling as inventory, however, so things won't take too long to get ugly too.

None of that was new information, but i think its good to put in context, because my other point is that this release we got 8 rewards (which is really cool!), but the rate of tagged to non-tagged was 1 tagged to 7 non-tagged, which is *not* great. 2 of these are considerably rare drops from normal waves too, which are pretty bad to farm.
I don't know what the rate will be once we get more areas next week, but i can only work with what i know, and i really think we could use a tweak to that. Namely i think at least those 2 (Jaw and Mushroom Cap) could use a tag due to how kinda bad its to farm them, and I think the cape from Ice Elf Hunting Grounds could use a DA tag so there's at least 1 tagged item there to hunt. I'm 50/50 on the chakram.
If you're gonna continue to make NDA cosmetics to try and cash in some people buying slots to keep them, I *can* respect that but 7-to-1 might be a bit much, hope its a bit better in the future.

ergotth -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/13/2021 0:44:03)

Its Verly we are talking about, he doesn't do "fair" on challenge bosses xD He must love the sound and taste of our frustration first thing in the morning. Hopefuly he stays in Dragonfable, the other MMOs I play already have plenty broken bosses without any feline assistance :P

EDIT: by the by, can we get, like, more chakram weapons in the game? There are so few and they look so awesome! Especialy on Cryptic and ShadowWalker of Time!

Baron Dante -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/13/2021 13:41:52)

I'm just gonna chime in on the NDA cosmetics issue as well, because I'm honestly not sure who these would be meant for.
Like yeah, if the intent is to force people to buy more space, that's one thing, but... NDA items are things that are, by default, assumed to be aimed for NDA players, right?
NDA players who get what, 20 bagspace and no banking? They're not going to have room for cosmetic items.
No, it would be clear that these are intended for players who have a larger access to bag space, in which case that would mean DA players. Go figure, DA players were given unlimited banking on DA and DC tagged items at some point for a reason. It's like a selling point, no? So are we reaching a point where items will just not be tagged just to avoid giving the players that free space?

ergotth -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/13/2021 23:49:48)

Perhaps a more elegant solution could be giving unlimited inventory space to COSMETIC (not NDA, sorry) items? Maybe even their own tab in the inventory?

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/13/2021 23:57:48)

^While I try to comprehend an attempt of sense of humor on that, what'll be the point then for DA/DC unlimited storages in the Bank (unless you want AQW's plentiful of AC items debacle screw things here)? The main issue here is why cosmetics-items are in NDA when cosmetics and slotting are DA features. An oversight on the dev's part, perhaps. Turning what's DA into NDA? Nah, that's not our call unless you want to challenge the forbidden suggestions.

ergotth -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/14/2021 0:19:31)

oh no, I was very mistaken, I should've said infinite storage for COSMETIC items :P In my boundless stupidity I forgot NDA means "non dragon amulet" and just took it as a term for the cosmetic items :P

raylas -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/18/2021 18:57:49)

How to handle big frosty durgon:

1. Get 3 potions, food if you really want it.

2. Select class of your choosing, something tanky is ideal.

3. Cue up "Bury the Light" or "Devil Trigger" on youtube.

4. Reach old Snowball, play music, engage in beatdown.

5. Enjoy what reward you get.

Laeon val Observis -> RE: =DF= December 10th Design Notes: Book 3: The Awakened Depths: Into the Unknown (12/18/2021 19:07:13)

^Replace 2 with Dragonslayer, and it's golden. No need to waste time waiting for a Favor-Inner kill range when you can just wait till 200 DEX enhanced Slayer's Poison offs it while you sit behind a nice shield and blind (and anti-Ice dragon autostun from the DA-only final skill of DS). Exactly how I did it to earn the Ice Elf Chakram in just 2 days alongside some nice gold bounties.
