Sapphire -> Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/11/2021 13:21:37)

A thought occurred to me, and I doubt it would be good but who knows?

Block-Dodge-Lash!

Build-> 250 Dex/End/Char

So, against a Pure 275 mainstat/250 dex/luck monster, if youre Mrm is is 66 (like Hollowborn+ Titan's Fall)

If you had Bun-Barret Pet he will add 15.75 blocking. If you get a 20 blind, your total block rate would be approx 50.63%. Or Moonwalkers + a 10 blind = 49.88% hit rate.

So it would be 50/50 hit or miss against you.

But you have Dread Fiend Guest, and frost wyrm misc for backlash.

So no matter what, either if they hit you or miss, you're damaging the monster back!!!

And you'd use Ranged Weapons. You'd have high-ish accuracy.

Weird!

What weird builds or playstyles have you tried, or currently run?

Solar Boy -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/11/2021 21:09:24)

Vorpal Slacker is my "Ballyhoo Pure", a character that avoids any content that would level it up past the level 20 I trained it to initially. >.> <.<

Prior to the release of GGBs, I tried to farm Ballyhoo on it pretty consistently for a while there, but nowadays that's pretty irrelevant. He mostly just serves as a rare mule now, but the low level restriction creates interesting circumstances every once in a while. For instance, Vampire Slayer gaining a level 30 requirement post-rework effectively made his ShadowSlayer class title and armor "rare", and equipment level revisions occasionally grant him gear that he doesn't meet the level requirement for, like his level 35 ReignDragon Rider. Aaand of course I try to keep an eye out for any quests/events can be completed without gaining experience, like TLaPD or some of the Rare Item Hunts.

Also, for whatever reason, I seem to have way better luck with GGBs and the Back-to-School giveaways on this guy than any of my "real" characters, so he's collected all sorts of cool goodies over the years... which he will of course never actually get to use since he doesn't fight. Sweet irony. :D

The release of the Shared Vault system sort of undermines this "playstyle", if you can even call it that, but thankfully I created this character on a separate account from my main characters, so he's vault-less.

1.
Playing FO mage that switches to heal loop when HP, SP, and MP are all low. Still perfecting the heal loop but it works on normal mobs for me so far.
Current iteration. Use Necromancer's rending weave to inflict bleed with spells. Use necromancer's grasp essence unravel blood to inflict the bleed cheaply (you heal MP instead of spending it). The bleed buffs the MP heal.
To increase bleed save modifiers use fractured point/shark sabre, scarab pet, desert raider helm, necromancer cloak status potences. Better bleed save modifiers also increase MP heal from unravel blood. Use essence orb to pay for SP upkeep.
To convert MP to HP use discount mogloween bag 2x each turn. Use gandolphin to reduce HP damage by spending MP. Use invincible star on the rounds gandolphin shield is low since you can't stack mana shields.
Necromancer's aggressive anima ward does stack onto the mana shield.
Use poelala guest for damage boost for more MP heal.

2.
Pre astramorph nerf I played a FO mage that only casts spells. Now that doesn't sound weird but the way I did it was, and at the time it was meta for mages to use armor skills instead of spellcasting.
When mana low from spells I used astramorph armor, then pixel ether till the reduced MP bar was full, then changed back to normal armor for full MP bar. All for a little SP.

Sapphire -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/12/2021 8:45:17)

^ Necromancer has HP->SP->HP heal loop also.

Works better if you can place FEAR

But Low on SP? Use essence orb, full heal SP. Gain celerity, just get SP full.

Cast Grasp Essence->Eat Fear Twice, or arms of dragonguard + grasp essence->Eat Fear for free heal.

What about pure mage-> Luna Neko 100 proc with booster pets?

Heroes of the Scape -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/13/2021 16:55:43)

For a little variety, I just started a character that the only equipment he is allowed to use is Frostval Delivery Sets. Makes it interesting as there is no way to get complete elemental coverage and things like PCO are not allowed. Getting him to level 5 was also interesting as he couldn't kill anything. Had to find chests to get him there.

Sapphire -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/14/2021 11:29:09)

I discovered and tested over a couple of days this:

So the build is backlash build: 250 int/char/end

Armor- Necromancer

Idea-> Build bleed and paralyze

Items- Porcelain teapot and bronze kettle misc, porcelhino and brhinzo pets, PCO, doomquake minions, modgin as guests, umazen shield for paralyze potency.

In Necromancer, toggle on bleed and paralyze that will be attempted upon casting spells. Have Mogdin guest out at first, and a bleed pet (Porcelhino, or Brhinzo. PCO to earth or Light, wield light cutlass if light, or ancient mother's staff or the new earth bloodmage weapon for earth.

Shadowfeeder on round 1 to get "ahead of the game"

Equip the porcelain teapot or bronze kettle misc, and spam click. This does 0 base/random, and 100% stats damage (uses END for stats) for NO MP cost. This is a spell. For casting the spell, Necromancer armor builds the anima barrier (this will build to 1.5-2k if the battle goes long enough) and attempts bleed and paralyze at HIGH rates. Mogdin goes twice, and paralyzes at the highest rate in the game. Your pet goes twice on bleed mode.
Usually at this point, you can have 3-5 rounds of paralyze and 1 power bleed (300-500 damage per turn)

Usually once I have 4-5+ paralyze turns, switch Mogdin to doomquake minions and equip ancient mother's staff if earth. Just continue to click the misc and build more paralyze and bleed. You'll never be hit again in any battle except versus bosses that restrict loss of turns.

You can also toggle on spell boost and pet/guest boost with Necromancer for higher spell damage and pet/guest damage, but these combined toggles will eat SP like candy, but with monsters on stun lock and you having 250 END, this is plenty of HP to feed essence orb when needed.

This also works great in Bard of War

Aura Knight -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/14/2021 17:14:51)

I restricted one character to only being allowed the armor, shield and weapon slots. Wanted to see how I'd do without any misc items, pets, guests or spells since we do rely on those a lot. Unsure of stat build but hybrid makes most sense. Possibly werepyre. I'll figure things as I go.

roobee -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/16/2021 12:41:09)

quote:

What about pure mage-> Luna Neko 100 proc with booster pets?

Are you suggesting this for the heal loop, or proposing this as a separate build idea? If the heal loop, can you elaborate?

Zennistrad -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/16/2021 12:56:16)

Not sure exactly how "weird" it is, but my secondary currently uses 200 STR/200 DEX/200 CHA/150 END. This is a build that specifically allows me to make maximum use of all the skills in the Avenger variant of the Paladin class while also dealing respectable damage with melee and ranged attacks.

roobee -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/16/2021 13:36:46)

An idea for heal loop is to combine Necromancer's Consume Fear with Werewolf's Snarl or Terror Set's terror infliction. Hard for me to test but others who are interested could try.

Sapphire -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/16/2021 16:27:38)

@ roobee, So I was using Luna Neko the other day in a pure build setup. I had the fire booster guest, and Lust pet. I would use mandate spell 2-3 times to get pretty much gauranteed blocking, and then wield golden head dragon shield which boosts lucky strike rate by 33%. Lust was giving me around idk, something like 35% to fire attacks. So with fire attacks, I was getting around 78% lucky strike rate.

I then used rejuvenating necklace misc and the dreamweaver's insight 100 proc magic wand that has a MP heal based on damage.

Needless to say, with all those lucky strikes and Luna Neko's 100% proc boosts and all that added up it was doing thousands of damage at time, and full healing my MP back quickly.

There's your heal loop.

Also, there's no need to use werewolf form or other methods of fear inflict with Necromancer. It has it's own fear inflict in fire, darkness, and harm forms. Inflicting then consuming eat can get you a loop especially with the advanced and non spelslinger variants, of which I don't use. I hate SP cost stuff since SP regen is far more difficult than MP regen. But it still comes in handy with HP heal from Essence orb usage. Still a loop.

@ Zenn-> Dropping stats to be more spread out is an idea I tried with werepyre form to try and run a beast hybrid where you're using the 3 quick cast buffs, buffalot, una poca, and arcane amp. Drop Str/Int down to 145, have 145 charisma and then you can do either 250 dex 75 luck or maybe vice versa or even become a tank and throw 250 in END and 75 in maybe luck. Prob works great, it seemed to have the couple days I tested it.

roobee -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/16/2021 17:17:37)

^
Doesn't dreamweaver's insight heal based on # of hits and not damage?
I was avoiding the Necromancer's fear skill because it uses CHA for status inflict which my current build lacks.

Was playing around with a meme build that turns out to actually work well on mobs. And I feel like if optimized could work on bosses. I gotta clean my inventory to make room for giftboxes so didn't pursue it further.
Turtle up in defensive equipment (don't forget defensive pets like Chiaro symbiote) while you Prime Chaos Orb until mob has high Ice resist.
Use all 3 of Mystic blade/Mighty blade/Merry Lance of Frostval past weapons 1/battle effect to inflict Ice elevuln three times on monster. Use Desert Raider Helm and Necromancer cloak for status potence.
Use Macadamageya-nuts option of bag of mixed nuts for cheap damage boost
Use helm of frostval past 1/battle effect for bth boost and then switch to frigid zorbak doll.
Use ice spellboosting weapon. Booster pet/guest. INT drive shield. cryomancer's robes + imbue with lore.
Cast spectral chains 1/battle spell. Cast ice spell.
If low on mana from previous battle. Use essence orb/AQ 16th cupcake + pixel ether for more mana.

Improvement ideas:
Spotter drake pet for status potence
Use astramorph to convert int into strength/dex before using Mighty blade/Merry Lance of Frostval Past

Sapphire -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (12/16/2021 20:05:03)

^Fear is usually charisma inflict versus monster charisma, which almost none have. Equip terror misc and you'll win. Heck, Necro's 7.5 status helper makes you win. It's cake

In light of the new pet, and this will be nerfed, how about the following:

Lucky strike 0 Charisma backlash quadforce Werepyre

Build- 250 INT/END/LUCK

Misc-Quadforce-> Charisma for backlash damage, can do dex or str for spell accuracy or hybrid attacks if you wish.
PCO-> Change elements as needed

Keep Werepyre in non beast mode if you wish, or go beastmode if you wish.

Staple-> Hypercrit. Must maintain this

Pet-Fae wanderer

Never ending MP/SP heal, as lucky strikes = full heals with this new pet.

The pet will have a clawback or cap added, but for now....do dis!!

roobee -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (2/2/2022 0:49:23)

Build ideas I've not playtested:

Utility build. huge elemental compression. leaving open slots for utility items.
Ultimate Dragon Scythe of Elements (weapons all elements and types)
Golem Summoner Robes Z (guests all elements)
chickencow clone/big clone (pet all elements)
Generalist’s Robes (spells, guests all elements)
scholar’s outfit (weapon all elements and types)
<insert utility items>

resurrection build. resurrect multiple times in a battle.
paladin or necromancer
revenant
male/female asgir warrior
icefall
shadow phoenix feathers

samukematsuri FSB build. FSB makes EVERYTHING (player, guest, pet, spell, monster) autohit.
since there are a few autohit weapons and spells now. one comparative advantage for the FSB is for non-CHA builds to have pets/guests that can hit (since they use CHA for bth). damage and status rolls still use CHA so avoid those.

summon black widow brain spider: reduces monster bth and int on hit, no save needed
ebil toys: decreases MRM of monster, no saving throw
status eater pets

second comparative advantage is where you want to get hit a lot (since monster autohit). avoid backlash build's comparative advantage:
samukematsuri set (synergy!)
essence of carnage

quadforce flexibility build:
quadforce stat toggle is expensive (if not using PR), but provides flexibility.
if there is only one or two utility items other builds have access to that you like to use, it may be not worth it to retrain your stats to hybrid. but with quadforce toggle you can fit them.

assassin seek weakpoint build. skill does many hits. combo with item effects that happen per hit
nith's fang
mother's staff
daygur

no misc no sp build. see what it feels like when you follow the 10 turn model (which ignores SP).

edit:
compression category build: every item compresses an item of a different category.
misc -> weapon power shard: varnak/logan’s claws, hero serum, ice orb essence
spell -> armor Shapeshift
Conjure shadows (spell -> weapon, guest, armor)
shield -> skill exists
shield -> spell frostval tree topper z, lunar eclipse shield
weapon -> armor arms of carnax, frogzard blade, frogzard sword, seal of primal shadows, mutant king form, warsmith, drakath fiend blade, rastille’s wrath, akriloth’s hatred, airenal’s lance, horn of tera’suul, custosilva’s justice, earthstrike guardian dragon blade, sinmaw maul
weapon -> guest yes (solar flair staff, zardwarts wand, emerald wizard staff, pzycho sabres, nightbane clawclub/clawstaff)
weapon -> spell zardwarts wand?, draconic blade, tomes
weapon -> misc loco’s blessing???
squire’s training armor lvl 1 skill (armor -> shield, armor -> weapon)
frogzard sword (weapon -> armor -> spell)
decompression: azamay golems and runestones, windstone, ballyhoo mtg
pet -> misc Pygmy Zombie Groupies

Kalle29 -> RE: Weird Builds and Playstyles of the Bored and Infamous (2/28/2022 23:10:26)

If you wanna play something because you're bored then try out a flat 125 to every stat.

Also if we're talking about items you use then I have two "themes" among my characters, one is a pure warrior with only 5% proc weapons, (Golden Quindent, Gorthor Battleaxe, Tempest Scimitar, Purifying Crescent Bade, Onyxx Wartexx) because I like the big damage hits.

But my main is based on being albe to handle as many enemies as possible without relying on strats that I find boring, so I made it cover all 8 main elements + void/harm with weapons, guests and pets. It also have pets that heal MP and HP. It covers all 8 main elements defensively + shadow monsters and multielemental monsters (flat armour of awe, which also gives a damage boost to the no-drop weapon).

And on top of this it also has 10 INT despite being a warrior to be able to cast scrambler beam/ray without the need of INT-boosting items. Since it carries the full Samukematsuri set I don't need to worry about the spell missing either.

This character is not specialised in anything but it is very fun to see how many monsters you can beat without changing your stats or inventory.
