Bannished Rogue -> Status Effects list (4/3/2022 17:47:20)

I know the staff has been pretty busy with the whole stat rework and the implementation of the battle-log and working out all its rough edges. While this isn't nearly as high of a priority I do think it's in line with the kind of changes being made and don't know if it'd be better to have this worked on given the similar nature of everything else being worked on; or just later.

I digress,
The status effects list added the neat little icons relatively recently. I don't know if they were intended to or not (potentially just and aesthetics buff (lol)), but those didn't fix any problems with the over-encumbered list of effects all going on at the same time.
I never thought that when one of the symbols were replaced with another, that there was a potential that the game would forget that the status was supposed to be applied until my mana shield got bumped off (and no, it wasn't due to a subsequent application of anything similar like barrier, chi shield, etc.). With that being said, in addition to an overall standpoint, I would like to see the status effects be more discernable like what is being done with the battle log. An idea I have to accomplish this is:

Step 1. Add an extra row (or 2) of the symbols- so that the game doesn't forget what is supposed to be applied to the character/enemy (and the player can definitively know if something got bumped off)

Step 2. Take everything that isn't a permanent effect (e.g: armor lean, lucretia's potion(s)) off the scroll text- This helps with legibility, and the scroll text would inevitably need to be smaller (less room, not smaller font) due to the addition of the additional row(s) of the status symbols.

Step 3. Make the status symbols have hover-able information text boxes (similar to skills)- So the player can individually see which particular status each of the symbols correlate to; in addition to a focused and organized view of the specifics of how that status is effecting the player/enemy. This also reduces the need for information about the statuses flooding the scroll text.

Does anyone else have any ideas or thoughts?

On a side note.
I would also additionally like to see the change of no more zero duration effects. They do not seem to be unanimous about whether the effect is still being applied or not. Visually I believe the most effective way for this problem to be clarified, is that when the status no longer has any effect, that (in lieu of the above solution) the correlating status symbol completely disappear.

Guardswordian -> RE: Status Effects list (4/3/2022 19:48:50)

So I take it that the main idea of this discussion is to have more discernable status scrolls, because the current one can be too crowded when many status effects are applied. This is something I agree with, because using shadow pendant, Anima barrier, and a couple of other buffs make it very difficult to read all the status effects you have.

I think that the reason we are having this problem is because the permanent status effects, buffs and debuffs are all stacking in one scroll. There's a limit to how much buffs you can grant yourself, and a limit to how much debuffs the enemy can give you. However, stacking those together makes a mess. The issue is that if your playstyle involves a lot of various buffs, the status scroll gets overloaded and you can't see what kind of debuffs you got from the enemy.
In my opinion, I think we should have permanent effects on one scroll, and two additional symbols (buff and debuff) you can hover over to see the status effects. I think the current symbols are just a good way to summarize the effects you have overall at a glance, and making more symbols would just make them jumbled. That's why I just want to add buff and debuff symbol-scrolls. While depending on the playstyle you have, you could still have a messy buff list, the player is the one casting the buffs and is likely to know most details. The problem was that that prevented them from seeing the debuffs from the enemies. That's why having a separate scroll for debuffs would help immensely, because most enemies use only one or two types of debuffs. Even adding in debuffs that are the result of your own skills, that should mount to 5 or 6 at most, which are almost certainly possible to display in a single scroll.

TL;DR:
1. Keep symbols as they are, they are good way of telling overall status situation
2. The main problem is being unable to see debuff.
3. Add buff and debuff scrolls that open when you hover over them

Sapphire -> RE: Status Effects list (4/4/2022 1:31:00)

^^If the status is listed, it's still there. Even if it says 0 turns.

The whole aesthetics need adjusted.

Take the header and move it up all the way even with the scroll to it's left.
Make the header smaller, also listing more than 5 symbols.
Drag the bottom of the scroll to the same position as the scroll to it's left.
Smaller font.
Scroll Bar just like the one to it's left.

Fixed.
