dizzle -> LTS Update Discussion (5/5/2022 17:59:56)

To avoid cluttering other threads I decided to start this one in an attempt to see what you guys think. At first I thought an update to the LTS isn’t really necessary, but after thinking over it a bit I think PD might be onto something here. An overhaul to the LTS would be nice for a few reasons.

The first being that it is definitely too cluttered when we have holidays like Mothers Day or 4th of July or New Years items flooding the shop on top of the “mainstays” in there. I think the Limited Time Shop should be just that, items that are there for a limited time. Items for holidays such as the ones I mentioned above.

The second reason being that it gets kinda stale and bland seeing the same handful of items in there every single day for months and months. It’s also misleading because someone could take a break for 6 months, go to the LTS and see the exact same items that were in there 6 months ago and automatically assume that not much has changed.

I’m not sure what should happen, if they create a new shop for toro Rex & co or just shift the items that are in there currently to existing shops. But I think the way the LTS currently is should change eventually at least. Put the seasonal items in there and put the clutter (non seasonal/permanent items) elsewhere. It would also be a good spot to promote revamped items or newer token items like the staff did with the Snurdle pets.

I’m curious to see what you guys think, if you have any recommendations or if you think it even needs changed at all.

PD -> RE: LTS Update Discussion (5/5/2022 20:36:14)

Since I'm the one who originally thought of this, I'll say this...

On the first point, Torontosaurus Rex should really be in the Memorial Shop. It was made to celebrate Canada winning an NBA finals in 2019. Though I realize a lot of the reasons it's still there is because it's apparently impossible to move items around shops without Captain's help. Thus it'll probably stay there forever unless the Captain somehow gets to do things. On that front if he can he needs to make tools so it's easier to do the things that would normally require his presence. That is the most high-value thing can be done in general. Not just simply "do this and do that" for me, but actually building work that will make it so that the things that are hard to do right now become easy to do.

I made this line of thought was because yes the shop is getting too big. Not to mention that those items aren't easily accessible outside of those times. If we had it so that the LTS was a portal like the Events button, then we'd be able to better organize things. Also, I've been asking for a way to get these specific items outside of their allotted time of the year, because they are seasonal items. It seems off that there are seasonal events that don't have a portal to to them to access them later going by the rule of other re-occuring content like Void Rotations and Seasonals. Going by this, there should shops + portals for:

  • New Years / 4oJ
  • Mother's Day
  • Moving all the current Star Wars themed items to the Starslayer shop.

    Then there are those items like the Light of Destiny/Zealots that aren't easily "themed". Those could probably just be in a general shop called "Promos". But the biggest point of this was so that we could continue the discussions on QoL / Anti-Annoyance. And I had an idea of how we'd do this; something along the lines of this (which is really just the UI of a Holiday Portal, except it's more or less a hub of hubs that appropriately enables/disables events from a calendar value). Then you could just link this hub in the Events Page while just having a promo banner telling us what's available when the times are right. It'll be an extremely high-value feature that will not have to be actively maintained, not to mention a very strong opportunity to monetize (which really, AQ needs much more money). Ideally every QOL/Anti-Annoyance update should be that where you make it very robust and not have to do much more work with. Though unfortunately a lot of the updates this year have been more or less half-measures with necessary changes still undone and requiring a revisiting of. Not of the AQ team's fault because of their limited time of course but it's still worth thinking about when you're on a budget and you're trying to think about how to get the most mileage out of the limited time you have.

    I second this

    Yes Yes!

    This just in: Looks like we're getting an LTS Shop Update!

    After some great suggestions and feedback from players, the Limited-Time Shop will see major changes this week! There will now be Limited-Time Shops for each event ie. Mother's Day, Thursday the 12th etc. You will be able to access the various rotating shops through Today's Event page when the release goes live this week. Included with each shop is a portal painting that players can purchase to access the shop whenever they like. A HUGE thank you to Spider for making this possible!

    Thank you so much, Hollow! This is a fantastic addition that should both make things easier in the future for the devs (no more need to manually bring back everything into the LTS and reduces clutter) and provides a massive QoL improvement for players.

    Once again staff listening to feedback and coming in clutch with big improvements. Really impressed with how this year has gone so far. Thanks for the hard work it’s much appreciated!

    Thanks a lot for listening to our suggestions+feedback and for making this possible
    included with each shop a portal painting, Hollow and Spider! [:)] [8D]

    battlesiege15 -> RE: LTS Update Discussion (5/11/2022 16:04:24)

    Instead of a separate portal painting each shop, how amount a token fee for access?

    PD -> RE: LTS Update Discussion (5/11/2022 17:36:39)

    Agreed, there should also be a payable fee that makes it that you can access shops at any point besides having a painting. My original idea had it so that you could do both. I like the progress we're making here with the fact that we'll be able to buy paintings but those still require you to have been there at that point in time. Which means if you weren't playing you wouldn't be able to get the painting, rendering that moot until the next time it comes around. I wonder if the AQ team could do it so both are possible...

    That being said paintings have their advantages over 1-time fees if you tend to use those items frequently and/or you have many characters. So some (including me) people prefer to pay a larger cost up-front for permanent access versus a toll-like system. But I think there is a niche to be had if you're developing a new character and you just need it that one time.

    dizzle -> RE: LTS Update Discussion (5/11/2022 23:10:12)

    I think there still needs to be a limited time aspect to these seasonal shops. They are “seasonal” after all. FOMO is real and if I were to make a bet, I’d say missing out on a seasonal item drives more people to stick around or at least come back for that seasonal item they want. Making every single item in the game become a perma addition and accessible year round sounds good and well, but might not be the smartest move from a marketing perspective. For example: I know myself and at least a handful of others weren’t as ready to buy the Emberheart package just because they know it’s not going anywhere. Items that leave temporarily or go rare tend to drive people to buy them just so they don’t miss out.

    It depends on the situation because many other players ( MIGHT / MAY ) think the opposite,
    they'll purchase them ( ANYTIME / ASAP ) regardless of items that stay, leave temporarily, go rare, etc.

    dr jo -> RE: LTS Update Discussion (5/12/2022 11:28:27)

    I do like the new ideas for the shop but keeping some items seasonal adds to the fun eg frostval accessible in March is a big no for me
