Vaalirus -> RE: Questions about the Shadowscythe (9/2/2022 3:46:06)

I'll try to answer some of these to the best of my ability and memory, if I happen to forget anything I encourage anyone else to correct me. Alright then, quote:
the shadows helped SMUDD? Wasn't the darkness spirits supposed to be neutral like Voidstar and not help SC which is a Doom related fraction? No single Darkness Elemental, as well any elemental to an Avatar really, don't really owe any fealty to Voidstar nor any code of neutrality to maintain the balance on Lore, in short they are not a monolith and can and have made choices that are meant to serve the interest of their own alignment. That's kind of one of the reasons they tend to be bit of a problem on Lore, outside of their own planes, and we see this in Greenguard, and judging by Uaanta comments the same can be true of light elementals in Lhe'Shiyac. So with that in mind it is likely the Darkness Elementals we see merge with the Mysterious Stranger were either normal darkness elementals that saw this as an opportunity to tip the balance in their favor, in favor of Darkness, on Lore or those that bought into the shadowscythe message of taking over the world long before SMUDD called to them quote:
spoiler: Voidstar or the other elemental avatars? Each time the SC was in action elemental balance was thrown away and they made the darkness element so weak at one point, you would think Voidstar at least would've intervene at one point or at least help the hero. Though they weren't even bother intervene back when Wargoth literally took over Fiamme This seems to have been a multi-front issue. Outside of creating the Elemental Orbs a thousand years prior to the events of the Orb Saga we haven't really seen much of what the Avatars do to combat the Shadowscythe, within exception of sealing up the Malerous, of which only one and a half-ish could be said to be Shadowscythe related (not taking into account the doom concept as a whole). We know the reason they didn't interfere with much of the events of the Orb saga, thanks to Lock and Key, was due to the twin prophecy starting to come underway so that does explain why they didn't feel the need to stop Sepulchure and the Mysterious Stranger, even though letting things get to the point to where SMUDD could have blotted out the cosmos would have been a bad idea. As for the thing with Wargoth controlling Fiamme that apparently was due to the Elemental Dissonance that occured during Book 2. Which we unfortunately largely didn't get to see due to a lot of it being cut but I imagine we would have learned and seen more about how weak some elemental planes became weaker than others (darkness and fire) and it's likely the Avatars probably wouldn't have been able to do much against Wargoth at this point. quote:
How did Caitiff ended up in the Inn's attic and where does all these possessed Doom weapons come from? How many sleeper agent weapons like Caitiff are out there waiting for someone to possess. -Are they coming/came from the Mysterious Stranger? So a long awhile back one of the inn keepers, Sabrina, the darkness elemental that was impersonating Grams, was actually selling the doom weapons (if I recall correctly one of the ghostly inn keepers that came before or after her were also selling them but I can't remember their name) to heroes and adventurers and some of them were being sold by the Mysterious Stranger. The one doom weapon that was Caitiff was apparently one of the ones leftover by Sabrina or this other inn keeper. quote:
-In fact why the guards never arrested him or at least inspected him? Wasn't a shady cloaked guy selling creepy Doom weapons by the gates suspicious enough? And the bigger question is after all these Doom related disasters why are they still allow him to sell more Doom weapons only in different form? If I'm not mistaken they were not known to be the true source, or at least one of them, of the weapons until much later on in the Orb Saga and it's more comedic hijinks that he was known as the Mysterious Stranger in Falconreach as seen in Ash's own saga, so in short they thought he was just some weird harmless nobody. I'm also pretty positive the doom orb you're referring to isn't exactly canon in that the Mysterious stranger is still being allowed to sell doom weapons by the Guardians. MS is effectively dead and obliterated. The orb is just a vendor gaming mechanic for players to get their first doom weapons or other doom-esque gear. quote:
-Will we ever see what was that spoiler: shadow at the sunken dracolich in the book 1 epilogue? I mean i have a guess it's the MS who survived (Sepulchure's letter makes me think it's the case) but i could be wrong and something totally different (could be even the Necrotic Sword of Doom's spirit form) though it would be nice to see him in action again, i mean it's been 11 years since the epilogue so how much time does he need to get in shape? Honestly, I'm not sure what that's about could be some remnant of MS but I'm pretty sure he's not really coming back but maybe there is some other sort of doom power or artifact just waiting there besides Sepulchure's helmet quote:
-Why isn't the Rose make some precautionary measures against the SC? The Rose sounds rather silly with all those recruits, technology and magic yet they keep wasting so much time on enslaving magical beasts. I mean i'm sure the people appreciate them capturing deadly clawkins and fairies, i mean who knows when they join forces and enslave humanity obviously but shouldn't the Rose keep researching the SC and try to stop disasters like spoiler: SMUDD, Valrith, Caitiff etc.. happening again? I'm surprised they still didn't get backlash for this. This is more my personal interpretation but I imagine outside the Rose forces in Doomwood and Amadeus, the main bulk of the Rose likely weren't at all that concerned with the Shadowscythe for the same reason the Avatars aren't turning up every stone looking for them. Until the forces of the Shadowscythe really start making noise they can be hard to pay attention to especially given that a lot of their plans happen in secret before the big bang. I also imagine that it wasn't until Valtrith attacked their own forces did they realize that the Shadowscythe was still very much around and still a threat though it doesn't seem like they felt the need to act until Sepulchure's pushing and Draco spreading darkness everywhere. I suspect after this very recent disaster they would in theory move towards investigating more of the Shadowscythe but currently their plans to stop that from happening again are Jaania's plans and that's the belief that magic itself can be stopped for good. Which might not even work in the Shadowscythe's case but eh. quote:
Are all Doom weapons are possessed by SC? Like each weapon has a SC spirit inside it? Pretty much each and everyone has a doom spirit in them, those that don't are replicas and thus are not true doom weapons as evidenced by the Doom Blade of Sorrows and Artix's dialogue on them. quote:
Why isn't the Hero keep researching them? Traveling to different lands meeting someone who maybe knows something about them/get new allies and friends against them or just searching for more Doom weapons so they could destroy them, instead of just waiting for the next Friday the 13th and fight with them and hope it all goes well? -Except from our continent pretty much no one else on Lore knows about the SC and how they almost destroyed the planet twice? It just seems unbelievable. The Hero is a busy adventurer and unlike Notha, Artix, Tomix, and plenty of our other companions we don't exactly dedicate our soul mission to one threat in life that might change after the discovery of this so called Whisper after the conclusion of the Malerous saga but right now we just have too much on our plate with things we get in involved or things that concern themselves with us. Heck we didn't even know about the Baron's cultists plan until they went out of their way to attack us. quote:
How does possessions works? The MS was possessing one of the prophecy dragon so he's got a strong body but the Ultimate orb and the sun which he eat basically was a timing bomb for him. Caitiff possessed Serenity which was a human body but with time it crumbled away. Draco was Doomifyed and it was working. So why not just possess a powerful dragon which is one of the most powerful magic being. When Caitiff was trying to create an army trying to possess different doomwood creatures with Doom weapons it didn't worked why? I don't think it was ever explained. When Opprobrious possessed the cultist what did he meant when he sayed it was not his body? What is exactly the perfect body for them? Couldn't they possess in some way some of the titans we encountered with the open rifts? Possession for Doom Entities is a bit tricky. I believe the Mysteriuos Stranger was able to possess Dragon Drakath outright because he was effectively weak enough for him to do so without much difficulty hence why its likely he waited until after he was defeated to begin the merge. The Caitiff and Opprobrious possessions reveal some interesting things. We know one of the reasons why Caitiff was so strong, despite being one of the weakest doom entities in comparison to its predecessors, was because it properly attuned itself to Serenity for literal years while it was stuck in the chest in the attic. The problem here though is that it merged with Serenity's body when her soul was checked out so the body was starting to decay hence the constant cracks and withering of Serenity's facial features. In time the vessel would have decayed to the point it was no longer usable so it was effectively on a timer, something Opprobrious points out. And in mentioning Opprobrious, the reason why it was so weak was because unlike Caitiff it was possessing the soulless corpse of a cultist and not that of the warrior it spent years attuning itself to which if memory serves right was supposed to be Adam. Taking all this information together, this is why Caitiff army was so weak and effectively canon fodder because it was having doom weapons merge not only to soulless corpses that would eventually give out sooner rather than later but also ones that they had not attuned to for quite some time which means they got none of the benefits of the Caitiff's power. So in short a perfect body is one that a) has a soul to keep it from decaying eventually and b) one they have spent in close proximity to for years to properly attune to their host for more power. Which is where Voyna comes in because she not only had her soul but willingly bonded with probably a significantly strong doom spirit to combat the dragons. I don't know about possessing the Tytan warbeast of the rifts as they seem far too difficult to control and would likely need some form of long term corruption for the any single Shadowscythe spirit to effectively reign them in. quote:
-Shouldn't the SC use this chance now that rifts are opening all over lore? I assume one rift was open in the plane of darkness so they could just easily come to us in some kind of form or they can just come to our world with rifts made by them anyway? The problem here is we don't exactly know where all the rifts are opening to begin with. We can infer some of them may have opened up on certain Elemental Planes that were under the control of the Avatars but it looks like some of them were opened to the Elemental Wastes as well. We only have two rifts left the Dragesvard one which is a combination of nature and darkness and the one that's open in the Deadlands right now which appears so far to be entirely water focused. We also don't know the exact means by which the Shadowscythe enter the plane of Lore but we do know they likely have to be careful when doing so hence the options being either putting themselves inside objects or coalescing in the Shadows like MS did and simply wait to enact plans. quote:
Madness quest one of the SC spirit had a crown with a very similar design what one of the Maleurous member Voyna had. Were they having some kind of partnership and if yes is it possible to make more partnerships like these? Power for exchange possessing/using a body to a point so they wouldn't need to leave the plane of darkness. Voyna and the Avatars stated in her chapter of the Malerous saga that both she and the Whisper joined forces to combat the dragons on Azayver when they apparently broke some promise to protect the humans and started massacring them. It is very likely that such a complete partnership could be replicated but it would likely require that the host be willing to do this and the doom entity willing to enact their own plans in this manner and judging by the fact that all it took was Voyna choosing not to pursue Draco and relinquish Fluffy is one of the reasons why we don't see that often just yet with the only one coming slightly close is maybe Patroclus and Achilles but that was clearly through the armor and not solely through the body. I'm also positive the Whisper was inside Voyna, not just seeing and channeling through her eyes sort of deal, given that we do see such a crowned entity at the gate of some portal for it and others like it to enter. quote:
-Caitiff was almost consuming Lore and they were one of the weakest spirits so why aren't some of the the stronger spirits teams up and form a plan to take over Lore? We barely defeated Caitiff so if the other spirits come down to Lore it sounds like it would be a huge disaster. Honestly it seems like to me they're all sort of doing their own thing. This is just my suspicions but it maybe they all have their own plans on how to brings Darkness to all of Lore much in the same vein the Exalted researchers were all creating their own works to stop the Elements but in different ways it seems to me that each most powerful and leading members within the Shadowscythe are all engaging in their own schemes to achieve the same goal. They may help out each other from time to time but for the most part it seems they've learned they just can't swoop with a large army and risk all of them being crushed especially if the Avatars and Twins are ready for them ahead of time. And that is an attitude I imagine they've have had to learn from multiple of their own "champions" being defeated if the Madness quest and the Never Apart challenge are any indication. Not to mention the fact that again that while they have the potential to be very powerful they also have one of the worst weakness if not kept in checked properly. quote:
-Are there other fractions like SC? For example a light elemental or a fire one? If yes are they dangerous too? Not in the same vein the Shadowscythe seem to be linked to The Darkness and Doom/Whsiper. There are factions that want to see their own element win out over the rest, Akriloth or Nivalis being such examples but no where near as bad as the Shadowscythe kick up too or in terms of how far they usually get in their schemes. quote:
And finally could we see more not alive doom weapon NPCs/villains like the Necrotic Sword of Doom or Opprobrious was? I miss them especially the NSoD, it was fun to see a crazy Doom weapon as a villain. You're proably going to have to wait until its time for the storyline to focus on them again.
