brotherinlaw -> En, Tropy, and Elemental "Doom"Knights (10/4/2022 14:52:52)

I've had a theory percolating about En and Tropy, the allies of Sepulchure. For those who may not remember, En and Tropy were mysterious beings who aided Sepulchure in his search for the Earth orb during the Willowshire questline. Their origins and story remain unknown, only some of their powers were shown, and even those were rarely explained. Based on their dialogue during the quests, as well as the EnTropy class, we can make certain observations and infer from those.

So far, my observations are as such: Both En and Tropy seem to share thoughts, speaking at the same time or finishing each other sentences, suggesting a shared consciousness or a hivemind (not the same thing). They appear to have some loyalty to the Shadowscythe, but act more like independent agents rather than actual minions, as they rarely interact with Sepulchure, they create and act on their own plans, and Sepulchure himself seems more interested in the new minions gained at their death than the loss of such powerful allies. They seem able to come back from death stronger every time, as well as "eroding" players skills and power. They can also spread disease or infect others with their essence, inflict rot or weakness with a touch, or parasitize a Great Elemental Dragon if they so wish. None of these abilities seem tied to darkness, but with nature.

On to my theory: I believe these creatures are a being similar to Doomknights, Evil Spirits or Elemental Demons loyal to the Shadowscythe Empire and the Shadowscythe Species that rules them from the Plane of Eternal Darkness. However, I suspect these Elemental Demons hail not from the Plane of Darkness, but are recruited from the Plane of Earth. Naturally, if there are Evil Elementals from the Plane of Darkness, there could be from other Planes as well, and they could just as easily choose to ally them with the Shadowscythe. Such a creature wouldn't be a Doomknight itself, but would require a different creation method and abilities to possess humans in order to habit the material plane, abilities similar to Darkness' ability of "Corruption" from Doom. For nature, such demon's equivalent to Doom would be Entropy, the natural Decay of order all nature experiences and, indeed, is as required for life as much as anything else. Such Entropy Knights would manifest the "corrupt" elements of the Earth Element, aspects not necessarily evil, but that seek domination and destruction instead of balance, and would thus be villainized within the Realm of Darkness. This would include disease, parasitism, weakness from illness or age, and the decay all living organisms must face as well as the erosion the rocks, mountain, and even the Planet of Lore must endure. Even death wouldn't stop them, because death is Entropy made manifest, and from death arises further disease, fungus, parasites, and magically, ghosts and necrotic energy.

This does put forth and interesting idea: Are there more such knights for other elements, other Elemental Demons inhabiting mortal bodies that have pledged their loyalty to the Ancient Shadowscythe? Are there Ashen Knights, born of flame and growing stronger as they take the ashes of their enemies burnt in soulflame? Or Abyssal Knights, who use the lure of the sea to crush their enemies and wash the brains of the innocents to serve them, like Kathool Adepts in service to an even Greater Evil? Are there even Light Elementals, disillusioned by the Lady of Light and now in service to darker masters?

So for the Discussion, What do you think? Is my theory sound, or am I ignoring some serious problems with my theory? What do you think of the idea we may face Elemental Doomknights as strong or stronger than En and Tropy in the future, perhaps more than one type at once? What kind of Elemental Knight would you like to see, and what might they look like? I really just put this out there to air it out and see what you guy got from it as well, so take the discussion any direction you like.

From what I know, there's already been some explanation as to what En and Tropy are, although I don't think we've seen much of it ingame. As I recall, they were once Chaos Weavers that entered servitude of Sepulchure, and thus became his undead minions. Presumably their prior affinity with corrupt power made them especially unique from other undead, and allowed them to do what you've described. I'd assumed that their lack of spider-legs was a side-effect of Sepulchure's necromancy; essentially removing one curse in exchange for another.

Though we don't have this explicitly told to us ingame, their fight at the Inn has the subtitle "Twice Corrupted". And given how similar they look to Chaos Weavers themselves, it looks like it's been made canon.

And just to note, Gorgok wasn't a Great Dragon. I'm fairly certain he was just a powerful Earth Dragon with a substantial following.

Yeah, Gorgok is not the Great Earth Dragon. That is Kratos and Geno, aka "the great one".
