Deaf of Destiny -> Perma Death Mode (11/15/2022 18:31:41)

Yes, I am back to playing AQ. If yall wonder where ICY is? I am currently a college student right now. That's why I am too busy with stuff.

I would love to play AQ in Perma mode. When you make a new character and play it til you got killed by the enemy then it auto-deletes your characters and adds it to history for a high score and who is still alive.

is it a great idea?

What do you think?

Umm, I doubt it'll happen...Really.

I think it could be interesting. Like, you would have an option of the character being a Chosen, or just a normal hero more susceptible to death. It could maybe affect some dialogue here and there, but aside from perma-death not have too big of an effect on the game. Forced losses(Sir Pwnsalot, "unbeatable" and un-fleeable bosses) would have to not count, though- and there could be some pretty unpleasant bugs surrounding that.

Ah, and Z-tokens. Perhaps on death they would be moved to a Chosen character? Or there would have to be a new kind of account vault thing where they just get held for your next normal hero character. To be honest now that I think about it, Z-tokens would probably be the biggest issue with this, and the approach to "non-Chosen" characters with them would have to be picked out well before the other mechanics were put in place.

But again, overall, I do think a perma-death mode could be neat. Perhaps there could be a few lives these characters got, or actual chance of whether or not the Boatman is busy?

I'm not sure how well the game lends itself to such a mode in its current form, but that's a cool idea. Back in the day (~2007-2008), I remember there was a player who had a high level character that prided themself on maintaining a 0 death count on AQstats (I want to say it was Dox Para but I have no idea). It was definitely a cool novelty character, but I think that mostly just amounted to farming in safe locations and closing the game whenever death was imminent. I don't believe simply adding a permadeath mode would create a terribly compelling gameplay experience, but a separate "mod" of AQ (ZardWars-esque) specifically designed to offer a roguelike AQ experience could be super fun.
