Sapphire -> Booster Guests (post stat rework) (6/4/2023 10:35:31)

This is based on the latest proposal, which isn't even implemented yet, but it seems like boosters need a complete re-thinking if current proposals stand. Poelala may need #13!!

Here's why:

Let's say that guest upkeeps are 30% Melee at 0 CHA and 20% Melee at 250 CHA. (These numbers IMO are reasonable)

For a non Beast-build, this becomes 118 SP and 196 MP per turn.

For boosters, it's being proposed that these be closer to 40% upkeep. So..manual changes. This means 157 SP and 261 MP per turn.

So for guests and for a player with 250 CHA, let's assume a 10% reduction in upkeep. For boosters this becomes 30% Melee, so 118 SP and 196 MP.

Yet most boosters scale with both Main-stat and CHA.

So for the Pure Warrior/Ranger/Mage w/o CHA, if upkeeps significantly increase we have disincentivized guest usage greatly, and we have made the most utilized *type* of guest by 0 CHA builds even further.

So the CHA build gets *full damage* and *10% cost reduction* on something to player damage compared to players who aren't heavily relying on guests anyway, outside of boosters.

Why should a CHA build gain more benefit to player damage out of a guest slot and lower upkeep, too?

Taking a large step back, arn't boosters essentially functioning as a misc , but in the guest slot?

Why not reduce (nerf) booster guest damage down to match upkeep as we might do with a misc? And if CHA is lowering the upkeep, then CHA is lowering the player-side boost, too...to match it??

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Secondary but less pressing issue:

40% upkeep is a lot in a world that's so heavily resource relied upon in today's game. This is why I think lowering the upkeep to the same as everything else 30% and then 20% for CHA builds, and matching THAT (30% damage for 0 CHA and 20% damage for 250 CHA) is a nice place to be. You nerf the booster guest by half for it both being "a misc in the guest slot" and "using a guest slot to boost player damage". So it gets half power for supplanting the guest slot's normally intended usage. And this means the non Beast build pays more but deals more damage. These are elemental specific boosters. The generics get their penalty, but maybe make the penalty towards upkeep...

Alternate proposal: Provide a toggle: Toggle 1-> 60% upkeep for 60% boost Toggle 2-> 30% upkeep for 30% boost (same upkeep/damage reduction applies if 250 CHA)

At least this is the basis for discussion ...if current plans are implemented..because I think guest usage (esp boosters) might have been killed based on upkeep increases for them (which is needed)

Thoughts?
