Hey there, heroes!

In Book 3 Falconreach, Ash has received a new letter for you!

Following the events of the Tomix saga in the Void, Riadne has spent some of her time managing an orphanage in Ravenloss.

Her letter carries a child's wish, and an invitation. Surely you have time for a brief visit?

Speak to Ash to read the new letter and play this week's quest: Myshka.

Note: You will need to have finished Bk3's Tomix Saga to access this quest.

Also this week, we have new DragonFable merch available from HeroMart!

We also have a new cosmetic weapon available for Dragon Coins!

The Spellsword's Legacy is color-custom to element and armor colors, and you can click it to swap your grip on it!

You can pick it up from the DC cosmetics shop in-game!

Finally, a few adjustments!

The Blade of Awe replica weapon now shows HP healed instead of the MP healed.
Ranger's Recover skill now no longer recovers MP.
Paladin's Greater Heal skill now no longer recovers MP.
Ninja's Walk Within Shadows skill now no longer recovers MP.
The MP recovery removal has been added to reduce the incredible sustain these classes were able to achieve for free.

And that's all for this week! Huge thanks to Dove for taking the lead this week to give me (Verlyrus) some time to rest and recover!

SKy426 -> RE: =DF= July 12th Design Notes: Letter From Riadne: Myshka (7/12/2024 21:19:08)

It was great to see Riadne again and to see what's been up since the end of Tomix's story.

spoiler:

The quest has a great pacing as it plays through Myshka's mind like a children's story book. Though short, there was a funny doomkitten cameo. If there's anything I would've added it, would've been more screen time or mentions of Piotr or his family since their whereabouts have been a mystery like did Danao survived Tanislav's last will? How did Barva died? What Katia and Piotr's been up to? If possible, could Tomix get a character slot like Ash and Alex to help contextualize his story?

Sumbrosus -> RE: =DF= July 12th Design Notes: Letter From Riadne: Myshka (7/13/2024 5:00:52)

It really was great to see Riadne again -- and I genuinely chuckled at the prank she played on us at the end. And it was nice to have a quest that didn't have the fate of the world riding on it; it was just a kind deed, done from a good heart.

spoiler:

I liked Myshka's narration for the quest's progression. I thought at first that another child, or maybe the orphanage's pet cat, had dragged off her stuffed toy. Seeing what was really going on was a bit of a kick in the gut.
All in all, the quest puts me in mind of the Make A Wish-foundation. Myshka may not be dying, but she is in an unenviable situation, and we as the Hero got to give her a wonderful memory.

The boss was a fair bit tougher than I expected. I was running Master Soulweaver, and I had to use up both my potions to win. Props to the Palachilly pet for healing me along the way as well.

Oof
spoiler:

I was not prepared for that... poor kid. But as the others have said it was great to see Riadne again, and do something nice for little Myshka. A very bittersweet quest.

@SKy426
spoiler:

We don't know what Katia's up to now, but we do know Piotr's been hanging around a certain corrupted Elemental Spirit... We might get to find out more about him once Fleshweaver is finished.

Vaalirus -> RE: =DF= July 12th Design Notes: Letter From Riadne: Myshka (7/13/2024 14:30:26)

Well that managed to make me both happy and sad at the same time.

spoiler:

It's great we were able to give Myshka an adventure even though it was one set entirely within her own mind. Makes me wish we knew someone else like Remthalas to give her abundance of ideas within to play around in her own head while she's basically comatose. Actually, that last statement made me realize that Riadne has probably been responsible in teaching and showing Myshka much of the world she hasn't been able to see or experience prior to her being in the state she's currently in given that she didn't know what a stalagmite was yet.

Moreover, I'm curious as to whether she's suffering from a similar affliction as Bethany had suffered with something being wrong with her soul as opposed to her body given that it hasn't atrophied. Although perhaps a trickier scenario is that she's been cursed somehow.

Regardless, I do hope she's able to wake up again and see the world with her own eyes once more and if not at least be given nothing but sweet memories.

Sumbrosus -> RE: =DF= July 12th Design Notes: Letter From Riadne: Myshka (7/14/2024 2:45:03)

You know, the more I see of Riadne, the more it sucks what she told us on the Voidship.

spoiler:

To wit, that we can't become Arachnomancers without the right ancestry. :(

I wish Arachnomancy could be taught to anyone, or that the Hero would discover they're from one of the bloodlines that carry Arachnomancy. Riadne is such a strong and cool character, and she has an amazing powerset. I wish the Hero could be more like her, if only a little.

spirit of greed -> RE: =DF= July 12th Design Notes: Letter From Riadne: Myshka (7/14/2024 7:55:27)

Ok wow i've finally had time to play it and i have to say Dove, Verly and the rest of the team are absolutely killing it with these amazing quests these days.

spoiler:

First of all it was totally random but a nice personal quest. It was nice to see Riadne after many many years, i noticed we didn't get to meet with Isaac and little Tomix, i hope they are fine and we get to meet with them next time. I guess Riadne likes to separate work from family, can't blame her.
I remember one thing i didn't really liked in the Tomix saga (well other than Tomix dying of course) was not really seeing Riadne's full potential, she was more like a plot device and damsel in distress. Well looks like it changed, i dunno if she always was this skilled with spiders or she trained in these years but her powers are really amazing. I mean controlling deadly spiders is one thing (RIP Grams) but using them to go in your dreams/mind (whatever it was) is crazy and kind of OP. I mean she could go into the minds of all kind of unconscious people and villains and talk to them, get informations out of them or just inform them about what happening in the real world. I wonder would it work on Jacek's father who is frozen by enchanted ice? Or on the people on Maar who is in sort of a limbo state i guess?
Arachnomancy is really interesting and i hope in the future we see more of it. Maybe if not as a class (which would be amazing) at least learn more about it, see it in action. There has to be others other than Riadne using it right?
I hope the hero mentioning her exhausted appearance is not a foreshadowing, for all the good she's doing she needs to rest a bit and chill with Isaac and Tomix a bit. Go to picnic with them and of course rest a lot.
Although i have to say Riande suddenly building an orpahanage and helping kids wasn't in my 2024 DF bingo list but i'm not complaining.

I can't help but find this quest so wholesome even with the crazy twist at the end which was mind-blowing and didn't see it coming. Still the reunion with Riadne, the hero going on a adventure with Myshka and visiting and helping out (another) orphanage, it just brought a smile to my face (well at least until the reveal ). The very end with the hero praising Riadne was really well done and heartwarming, i guess she really needed to hear that. We really need to look out for our friends huh.

Myshka is already an interesting character, i'm sure we will learn more from her and her condition later on. Immediately Piotr came to my mind but her soul is intact and her mind and body is more or less ok. I wonder if it's just her or other people have the same problem as well. Could be a curse, disease, maybe some kind of special power affecting her?

I don't remember if a previous quest already used this feature (probably) but i loved Myska in the back narrating our adventure, it was cute. I noticed how much different monsters we've had in this quest, some of them i long forgot (like the VurrMen), i thought it was cool to see more variety instead of just the usual monsters like slimes or skeletons.
The boss was ok, not too difficult (after all there's the difficulty option for that) and not too easy (it's no fun). The close up of Riadne and her humour was nicely done. In fact i can't think anything bad about this release, well maybe one small thing:it would've been nice to see other kids in the orphanage or Isaac and Tomix, the orphanage felt like a bit empty IMO.

I hope later on the orphanage kind of get added to Ravenloss and we can visit it freely (just like the nest too). Sadly with all the DOOM, dragons, bandits and other threats i guess there's a lot of orphanes who needs help. I have to say big story quests/wars are always fun and i guess a main priority but i love these random chilling personal quests. It's nice to see the hero saving Lore and fighting evil but it's just as nice to see them visiting and helping out their friend/people on Lore. Just like the end credit told us sometimes the smallest actions can be the most important ones. I'm all for more quests with the hero visiting their friends (whether they are alive or dead), i mean the hero have quite a lot of friends these days and we haven't saw some of them in a looooong years. Maybe it's just me but i get the feeling we get more personal quests this year than any other year, most of the time we meet our friends in war or a big story quest in which we didn't exactly had the luxury to chat much so it's nice to just chill a bit and talk to them without fearing that the world would end in any second.

Kudos for whoever wrote and animated/coded this quest, it was well done.

TFS -> RE: =DF= July 12th Design Notes: Letter From Riadne: Myshka (7/22/2024 19:39:18)

Wow, that was a really, really good quest.

spoiler:

'Myshka' means 'little mouse' and the boss is a cat - cute detail!
