SoulWeaver Rework & Aegis' Trial!
Hey there, heroes!

This week, SoulWeaver has finally been reworked, and Aegis has a special surprise for you!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/2024-08-23-SWREWORKdn.png[/image]

The SoulWeaver rework is now live! Synch with your SoulAlly to empower yourself and unleash powerful attacks, but watch out for your Unraveling soul, draining more and more MP each turn!

Master SoulWeaver is also now a direct upgrade for the SoulWeaver class. Once you complete the Book 3 Tomix Saga epilogue, SoulWeaver's skills will be automatically upgraded, and Master SoulWeaver customizations unlocked!

There are also two new Baltael's Aventail versions available to merge, Skilled, and Master.

Finally this week, Aegis has a new quest for you! The Trial of the Icy Caves of Valor await! If you're lucky you may even earn yourself a special cosmetic weapon upon completion (Or maybe a Peculiar Visor!)!

Also this week, new cosmetic items have arrived to the Dragon Coin shop!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/promo-techangelnew.png[/image]

The Virtuous Reality Veil helm and the Virtuous Reality Radiance cape are now available for 400 DCs each! You can even click on the Virtuous Reality Radiance to change its appearance!

Now for the new Soulweaver update details!

SoulWeaver is a high-output combo class that can disarm foes with powerful debuffs and unleash powerful burst attacks. Pushing this class to its limits will consume large amounrs of MP, so monitor your resources closely.

Multiple skills have been renamed and rearranged. For example, SoulSynch is now available for NDA players, having been swapped with Retribution.

As a result of the rework, Master SoulWeaver has now been folded into base SoulWeaver as an armor customization. Color Custom Master SoulWeaver (newly added!) and all existing Master SoulWeaver customizations are now available for SoulWeaver. Once you've completed the Book 3 Tomix Saga epilogue, some SoulWeaver skills will automatically gain additional or stronger effects as a result of your new Master status!

SoulWeaver has two major mechanics: Combos and Synchronization.

Combos:

SoulWeaver's skills Soul Pierce and Valor Impact will now start a Piercing Combo or Impact Combo respectively. Following one of these combo starters with the other will then empower the second step, granting the skill more hits and damage, along with the combo starter's passive effect (i.e. +50 Bonus or +200 Crit, depending on combo). The second step will then change Sealing Slash's effect!

Sealing Slash is now a combo finisher, inheriting the passive effect of the most recently used combo and defbuffing your target based on which combo you used! While it does not have to be used immediately with a combo, it can only be unlocked by performing a full combo.

Synchronization:

Using SoulSynch now grants a buff to Bonus and Boost (and more, as a Master Soulweaver!), at the cost of the Unraveling debuff. Unraveling is the maintenence cost for keeping up SoulSynch. It costs an additional 20MP to maintain each turn (20, 40, 60, 80, etc), with no limit other than you available Mana pool. If it would cost more MP than you currently have, Synchronization (and Unraveling) will be automatically disabled. While Synchronized, many skills will have enhanced effects, and your SoulSynch attack gains base damage equal to the MP that would be lost that turn. For example, if you would lose 80MP on the turn you use your SoulSynch attack, it will tagin +80% base damage per hit! However, using your SoulSynch attack will also remove Synchronization and Unraveling.

Baltael's Aventail also still modifies three skills: It increases the duration of Soul Aegis, the base damage of Retribution/Circle of Retribution, and the number of hits on your SoulSynch attack. There are also two new versions of the Aventail, and older versions have had their resistances updated!

In total, there are three sources of skill upgrades: Master Soulweaver, Synchronization, and Baltael's Aventail. All three modify skills in different ways!

On to the skills!

  • Attack
    • 2 hits x 60% base damage (120%)

SoulWeaver has always been a fan-favorite class, and important to DragonFable's story as well! Now, it should finally have the flexibility and power to keep up with most of the challenges you may encounter! You'll have to think ahead and watch your MP carefully when SoulSynched- will you use the power of Synchronization sparingly, or will you strain your soul to the edge of Unraveling?

Massive thanks to our testers for helping out so much with testing and adjusting this rework!

As usual, everything is subject to change and adjustment from feedback!

Chaosweaver has also recieved a few changes.
  • Chaosweaver's Snap Obliterate execution no longer works based on thresholds. It will now only execute if the target's HP is less than 30% of your max HP. This is roughly equal to the previous thresholds, but reduces the effectiveness of odd optimized builds that maximized END for a single turn to execute certain monsters.
  • Stat damage DoTs on Chaosweaver have been removed, instead replaced with approximately equal base damage increases. (You may note that SoulWeaver also received these changes!) Other classes with stat damage DoTs will be addressed at a later date.
    • Chaosweaver's Aggression: 50% + stat damage -> 66%
    • Chaosweaver's Obliterate: 300% + stat damage -> 400%

Finally this week, there has been a big new Quality of Life feature and a bug fix with logs!
  • Item search has been added when buying, selling, and merging at most shops! (House/House item shops not included)
  • Fixed an issue with the Battle Log where skill uses were logged after the skill's effects were logged, instead of before.
Also, please note that there may be an issue with saved Delta customization being replaced with Master on SoulWeaver. This resulted from some reorganization of the customizations. You can just go to the Armor Customization room and fix the issue yourself!

Phew! What a week. I think I pushed a little too hard, and I'm going to need quite the rest!

We hope you enjoy the SoulWeaver rework!

mahasamatman -> RE: Friday, August 23rd Design Notes: SoulWeaver Rework & Aegis' Trial! (8/24/2024 16:16:12)

Woohoo! One of my faves!
Mana leakage is kinda Techno's thing IIRC, but this still seems really cool and much needed. Although now I can't just keep the 35% boost forever, I guess the other improvements make up for it.

Where are the new Baltael's Aventail items? Do we need to get a new Peculiar Visor for them, or can the old ones be merged into the new ones?

Laeon val Observis -> RE: Friday, August 23rd Design Notes: SoulWeaver Rework & Aegis' Trial! (8/24/2024 16:18:08)

Yes, you start from scratch. The new quest makes it somewhat easier to get the Visor. Somewhat.
spoiler:

The new Aventails are for DA holders, comes in level 65 and 85 versions, and are a slight step up to the WIS/END NDA Aventails. Bonus perk that they are unli storage in Bank by being DA items.

The dungeon crawl... well, remember the Remthalas dream rare waves?

Koh -> RE: Friday, August 23rd Design Notes: SoulWeaver Rework & Aegis' Trial! (8/25/2024 0:20:06)

I wish Unleash SoulSynch would use Older Aegis if you've gotten the Master Upgrade instead of using younger Aegis every time.

Edit:
I just saw that Non-Baltael's Aventail has the older Aegis animation from Master Soulweaver so I would love it if there was a way to toggle between these animations if you use Baltael's Aventail.

AutumnSilence -> RE: Friday, August 23rd Design Notes: SoulWeaver Rework & Aegis' Trial! (8/25/2024 8:02:49)

I'm enjoying the Soulweaver changes a lot. It's not taken much to get used to the new systems, and I really appreciate the touch of including some of the original Tomix animations in there.

Kaizoku -> RE: Friday, August 23rd Design Notes: SoulWeaver Rework & Aegis' Trial! (8/25/2024 9:35:05)

The rework is very cool and enjoyable to use! [:)] I appreciate the different animations in the combos especially. Having MSW separately without Aventail always felt awkward too, so having it all come together like this is perfect.

Roxas45 -> RE: Friday, August 23rd Design Notes: SoulWeaver Rework & Aegis' Trial! (8/25/2024 9:40:04)

Really enjoying the new soulweaver changes.
And the new quest - I FINALLY got my Peculiar Visor after so long of RNG hated farming.
What other items should we be getting from that quest though - Because I've run it a few times, and I've either got only the Peculiar Visor, or nothing.

Something I'm noticing when wearing Baltael's Aventail and displaying it though- there seems to be a patch or something that seems to be floating around the helm area. You really notice it when you're moving in a larger area, and less so in battle. Not sure if thats a me issue, or something else.

The damage output so far seems alright. Im still going through some testing, but I can already tell that its not built for a lot of non-burst combat.
In the sense, that It'll clear mooks, waves, and so on - easily.
But in a longer paced fight, or with something that hits back HARD... I'm noticing some stress.
And thats not even considering the Inn Challenges.

That said, Soulweaver is certainly one of my favourite classes from this game, and I love the way its come about all the way since Tomix first showed up in the Halloween event.

Deni3000 -> RE: Friday, August 23rd Design Notes: SoulWeaver Rework & Aegis' Trial! (8/25/2024 20:22:13)

Just got a chance to play the class rework - Absolutely love it. Knocked it out of the park, feels super fun to use, and I'm beyond giddy that we have access to some of Book 1 Tomix's weaver animations.

As for feedback, it's super minor but I am inclined to agree with Koh about the Aegis version used in the synch ability. I actually didn't even notice master soulweaver used older Aegis at all (edit: tested it out and went back to watch some videos of old MSW and the animations all use young Aegis, so I don't know what Koh is referencing, but either way using new Aegis' appearance would be nice - the point stands), so it would be nice for that change to carry over with the visor equipped, especially since lore-wise it would make the most sense; you can't get the peculiar visor anywhere before book 3, so aegis would have to be in his new form when you fully synchronize.

It's a somewhat rare drop, but you know that weapon. If Jaania got a glaive when she goes full throttle on us, we use this on a SW skill animation.

And thats not even considering the Inn Challenges.

I did my type certification for BMSW on Emperor of the Sea Chickens and Kittypillar, relatively easy Inn fights, and barely struggled. Unless you are going to commit to the burst rotations highlighted on its Endgame Wiki, you have to juggle being very offensive or defensive. Although I also use a semi-aggressive rotation going (Aegis >) Sync > Concentration > Burst > Repent > Retribution > Unleash then improvise from there, reinforcing Burst's debuff with Drain if facetanking is an option or falling back with Aegis. Falling back on Aegis does offer the window to use either iteration of the Valor/Pierce combos.

Next is the stat build. On paper you should be using either of Techno's recommended builds, depending on the context of either the fight being able to be powered through (200 INT) or demands MP stamina (200 WIS).
