Arena at the Edge of Time: Reorganized!
Hey there, heroes!

This week, the Arena Board at the Inn at the Edge of Time has been updated and reorganized!

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/2025-05-02-BoardReorganizedDN.png[/image]

The list of challenge boards has been split into multiple pages organized by release date, rather than theme, with the most recently updated challenge board displayed again separately at the top. The board has also been updated to return you to your most recently accessed challenge board when you return to it each session. (In other words, it will save which board and page you accessed last until you log out or change characters.) We've also fixed font issues on a number of boards!

We've also added difficulty indicators to most challenges! These can be toggled on or off if you want to see the boards without them (Saved between log ins). As challenge difficulty can vary significantly based on many factors, including gear, class, etc, the difficulty indicators are less hard declarations of difficulty and more based on general complexity and community sentiment. The indicators are easy enough to adjust as well, should these factors change in the future. New challenges will have a ? difficulty indicator until the next month's Arena release to give time for general difficulty to be settled (We don't always hit the aimed for mark with how difficult we want or expect fights to be, especially with the limited time we have to test and develop them!).

We also decided against adding a new challenge this week, as the reorganization update took a bit longer than expected, and putting a new Arena challenge on top of that would have been a bit too much. We spent the remaining time working ahead on various things for the future!

Base classes have now had their Retro versions folded in as customization options, for example, and I've tried to get ahead on some writing.

Also this week, we have a few new items available!

The StarGuard cosmetic helm is now available for 550 Dragon Coins! This amazing helm is color custom to your base color and also your weapon element. You can also click on it to lift the visor and show your hairstyle!

Other May seasonal items have returned as well! Check them out in the Book of Lore!

The Student class has also received two new customization options!

The Pilot customization can be obtained by purchasing the Pilot's License Catalyst from the Armor Catalyst shop!

Star Captain customization, on the other hand, can be obtained with the Antique Star Captain's Claymore, available from the Star Captain verification shop in the Guardian Tower basement.

Also this week, the Star Lores Episode IV "A New Hype" Poster has returned to HeroMart!

Along with rewards in other Artix Entertainment games, you'll also get the cosmetic StarGazer Sword, which is both color custom, and clickable to swap the blade between black and white and Base and Trim custom!

And that's all for this week!

If there's one thing I've learned from this week, we definitely need a vacation at some point in time. While I did manage to get some writing done, I wasn't happy with it, and I also ran into a block. A little bit of time away form things might be in order soon...

Well, this kaizen feels like a mixed bag, especially the difficulty indicators. Only time will tell if the latter feature was worthy of implementation.

The new ratings system at the endgame arena seems helpful. I like it.

Here's to hoping Guardian class at least gets some skill updates in the near future, maybe at least a lvl90 version of the Guardian class based equipments to throw a bone for the class.

@above, just because the latest customizations have heritage appreciation elements it does not warrant you using your borderline spamming. Guardian content will be provided if they could be provided. At the end of the day though, for all the AQ playerbase's contributions for this game to come to fruition, DF is still its own distinct game, so don't try to inflate your roleplaying class's worth when it is not the focus role of the hero of this sector of the Lorian multiverse. Nor do you want to force the players to invest into a game that they might not even play just for a niche access.

I saw the new difficulty rating system for the Inn, and my god did my confidence take a nose dive. XD
Ah, even some of the hardest stuff I'm fighting only has a 1 or a 2 rating.

Mind you, some of the fights themselves dont have a rating - did I misread/misunderstand that the rating is only for SOME fights and not the whole Inn?
I'm talking about older stuff too mind - not just the new ones.
Theanno, Chaos Lords, etc..

After taking a peek, and assuming the lack of rating option for some of the individual inn fights were intentional, I suspect the ratings were deliberately left vacant because they are, for the most part, meant for the versions of the fight that are actually meant to challenge you which pretty much only leaves the duo options as opposed to any fight where you only fight a singular opponent and ones that don't come packaged with a duo encounter, like Deimos Mortis, Frallmar, and Honk for example. This approach could always change to include a rating for these bosses, as pointed out in the design notes, with feedback or if there's too big of a disconnect in how this interface indicates difficulty to players but for the most part it feels self-explanatory, at the moment anyway.

While the in-game ratings aren't super misleading, you can find more accurate difficulty ratings on the Endgame Wiki here, along with a suggested order of progression.

Though keep and mind that trying to give each fight a hard-and-fast rating is an inherently silly task as the difficulty of each fight will vary based on which class/etc you use. If you're consulting other players and resources for the most effective class versus each boss you'll find every fight much easier than a holistic rating would indicate
