Book 3: Through The Frost - A Trail Gone Cold
Hey there, heroes!

This week, we're returning to the Northlands! Now that you've reunited with Vilmor and Cryozen, it's time to follow the trail of the Hollow...

[image]https://cms.battleon.com/DF/images/2025-11-14-TrailColdDN.png[/image]

Alongside Galanoth, you and your dragon have ventured into the Northlands at the request of Vilmor. Somehow, fresh Hollow are appearing, despite the rift's closure, and Vilmor and Cryozen need your help getting to the root of it. Join them in their hunt for clues... and hopefully find your next step through the snow!

Head over to Book 3 Dragesvard's shore and speak to Galanoth to continue Through the Frost with this week's quest: A Trail Gone Cold!

The Game/Battle Log has been updated with some very exciting new functionality!

The Log is now always available for players, and the option for it has been replaced with the option to toggle the "External Log"!

The External Log option moves the log outside of the game screen into either the Side-by-Side view, or Pop-out into a new window (Also with options to choose which you prefer). The in-game option is still available if you turn off the External Log option.

The External Logs are scrollable, selectable (for copy/paste), and also respond to keybinds like the Internal Log. It also has a button to clear the log- be careful about clicking it! The External Log also functions and syncs up with the Game Log as expected, and will even remember if you last opened it with Battle or Game Log in that session.

The Game Log's character limit has also been doubled.

Give it a try, and let us know what you think!

We also have some Evolved PumpkinLord adjustments.
  • Thorny Bulwark
    • Empowered: Retaliation reduced to 100% base damage from 150%. Empowering this skill makes Thorny Bulwark's cooldown longer by 1 turn.
  • Vine Whip
    • Effect changed to -15 Boost for 2 turns.
    • Empowered: Effect changed to -25 Boost for 6 turns.
  • Health Candy
    • Empowered: Effect changed to [Level/2] HP HoT for 10 turns.
  • Bramble Shield
    • Effect extended to 5 turns. Also, additionally applies +30% direct dmg reduction for 1 turn,
    • Empowered: Effect extended to 5 turns. Also, additionally applies +45% direct dmg reduction for 1 turn,
    • Both: DoT/-Boost/All effect when hit duration increasaed to 2 turns.
  • Pumpkin Bomb
    • Both: DoT effect duration increased to 5 turns.
  • Midnight Blade
    • Effect changed to +70 Bonus for 6 turns.
    • Empowered: Effect changed to +100 Bonus for 9 turns (on top of existing element unlock)
  • Mana Candy
    • Reduces all skill cooldowns by 1.
    • Empowered: Grants another turn aftter use. Does not additionally reduce all skill cooldowns (again)
    • Cooldown increased to 13.
  • Sinister Scythe
    • Effect changed to -100 Bonus, -40 Crit for 1 turn.
  • Draining Roots
    • Creeping Roots now extends the duration of Draining Roots by 1 turn for every turn of Creeping Roots (rather than 1 turn per 2)
    • Debuffs no longer inflict -Nature res.
    • Boost and -All from Creeping Roots have been reduced to 30, down from 40.
    • Both: Base duration reduced to 2 from 3.
  • Endless Night
    • Empowered: Gains +20 Boost/STR/DEX/INT, up from 10, max 100. No longer provides Bonus.
The goals of these changes are to make Empowerments a little better and/or usable overall, while also providing a better reflexive defensive option with the 1 turn DR addition to Bramble Shield. Of course, if things still need adjustment, feedback is always awesome!

Also, some bug fixes/adjustments!
  • Fixed a bug where PumpkinLord (old evolved PumkpinLord) was untrainable. Should now properly use the old PmupkinLord progress.
  • Daily Quests, Voltabolt's Challenge, and the Hydra Bosses have had their experience caps increased to 50,000, up from 15,000.

And that's all for this week!

Deni3000 -> RE: Friday, November 14th Design Notes: Book 3: Through The Frost - A Trail Gone Cold (11/15/2025 1:33:47)

Really great release this week.

The new game log options are extremely useful, and having an option to use it in what was previously empty sidebar space is exactly what I was hoping for. I have only two pieces of feedback regarding it: First, behavior with battle pop-ups is a bit inconsistent (having the in-game window blocks pop-ups, having it at the side doesn't); if this was intentional feel free to ignore, it just stuck out strongly to me because I'd gotten used to reading them on the log. Second, the pure white background is very distracting. I'd consider using the parchment beige color the normal UI has, if it won't make the text too hard to read.

As for the story, I'm enjoying this quest line.
spoiler:

Bit of a nitpick, but: The dialogue could have used some better pacing before Vilmor decided to trust Galanoth. Something as small as adding a slight pause before her expression changes and the agreeable dialogue is shown would make a world of difference IMO. It feels a bit sudden clicking forward and seeing instant agreement.

Overall I'm a big fan of this quest, visually it's very cool (it's nice seeing the battle positions shifted once in a while even if it results in some buggy/floaty visuals), I love having quest-guests, and Vilmor and Galanoth are both iconic characters with iconic storylines.

Side note: Was it ever confirmed in the Northlands Rift story whether the hollow creatures were actual overtaken corpses or whether they were just imitations of the surrounding fauna? I've been partial to the second explanation, since I like the idea of this massive fungal entity just using imperfect mimicry to try to adapt to a new world, but there were some lines in here that make me think I've misinterpreted (talking about "catching" flying creatures).

GodJank -> RE: Friday, November 14th Design Notes: Book 3: Through The Frost - A Trail Gone Cold (11/15/2025 4:31:10)

Not too sure if Bulwark required that type of nerf, but everything else seems like mostly good changes. My main gripe is how Draining Roots got nerfed. The don't think the class was strong enough to warrant removing -20 Nature (i.e. -10 All and -10 Nature) and -10 Boost.

-Boost and +Boost elsewhere is supposedly going to make up for this, but I would have rather had Draining Roots' numbers remain untouched, so players could get EPL for a week and see if Draining Roots was too strong after all.
