CH4OT1C! -> RE: ranged waepons damage (1/31/2026 10:52:51)

Hi there! Firstly, the post you linked is outdated. I detailed the most recent effects of DEX in a pending forum guide. The tl;dr of that for DEX is: Stat damage to Ranged weapons/skills/etc. Stat accuracy to Ranged weapons/skills/etc. Adaptation: The game tracks whether you hit or miss the monster with a Ranged attack, and then adjusts your accuracy lean according to the number of times you hit and miss. The formula is quite complicated, but look at the guide if you're interested. The number of hits and misses is tracked throughout the battle and it's modified on each hit. This means your damage/accuracy are constantly being adjusted. The takeaway message is: the more you hit, the less accurate you become and higher damage you deal. The more you miss, the more accurate you become and lower damage you deal. Style Bonus: All weapon attacks gain +4.25 BtH (so they're more accurate). Additionally, you gain a boost to damage dependent on the chance of your weapon using a special. It scales from 0 to 100%. Weapons without a special get no boost; weapons that always use specials (like bows) deal +15%. The formula and explanation can be found on the guide. You can absolutely run a build with bows and spears. The problem is those weapon types are suited to different playstyles. Bows/other weapons that use specials are independent of armour lean. This means FO won't boost them (and FD won't reduce their damage...). Spears, by comparison, normally don't have high chances of a weapon special, and regular weapon attacks do follow armour lean (which FO benefits). As @Aura Knight said, you also don't need STR for Ranged weapons. They just scale on DEX.
