Singularity -> How to tell if a weapons effect works with spells? (2/27/2026 11:38:32)

Example would be, Herald of the Eclipse Staff. The infosubs doesnt specifically mention working with spells, just says "attack". Is that the only thing i look for? I thought maybe if it was labeled a sword, then it wouldnt work with spells (in terms of activating the special effect) but they seem to be pretty mixed. Is it just on a per case basis, of can i say "Okay this weapon has xxx characteristic/label, so i know already that its effect only works when attacking with the weapon, not by casting a spell."

im sure its obvious, but idk if some things are just not mentioned, or left out on accident.

"ire weapons, all have a neutral damage/accuracy lean, blade/staff have no special, while bow has a 20% true special. All weapons toggle between one of two modes, by default they sacrifice MC and 50% weapon damage (so total of 55% Melee, 41.25% for Magic version), to attempt to inflict (55 x MagMult / 2 / 1.5)% Melee Bleed on the foe after each hit, max of 4 attempts per turn, MagMult is 0.75 if using the Magic weapon, 1 otherwise. This has a -10 penalty to the save, inflicts with WpnMainstat/LUK vs mob DEX/LUK (covering your eyes quickly before seeing the eclipse, making your eyes bleed). Can toggle it instead to pay MC and 20% weapon damage (25% Melee, 18.75% for Magic version) to attempt a 4 turn -(6.38 x MagMult x MobFireRes x Hits / Attempts) BtH Blind at end of turn, this has a -20 penalty to the save, and uses the same inflict/resist stats as the Bleed."

Like what verbiage would tell me it only works with weapon attacks?

Spellcasting weapons usually specify that their effect applies to spells, so Herald is only based on weapon attack afaik.

got it, so the only way to know is if the infosubs specifically mention spells, and theirs no characteric about the weapon itself that would let you know?

^Pretty much. Unless the infosubs specifically say "Only applies to spells" or something along those lines, just assume the effect applies to weapon attacks. Weapon attacks are treated as baseline, so it's assumed an effect applies to weapon attacks unless otherwise stated. But there's no in-game "metric" to judge whether effects apply to only spells. It has nothing to do with the weapon type or design element, etc. Some weapons tell you in their descriptions, but that's not consistent.
