Epilouge: The end of the tale. (The last Diary entry is written in a different hand on new paper. The previous back of the book is burned beyond repair, but some repairwork has been done to it to add this in.) I record the final part of this tale for the sake of completion and to show the world what happened after Alexander's last journal entry. People need to know what happened here, for it affects the people of Lore far more then they may suspect. I found this journal in a burnt house in Swordhaven, the fires that destroyed it faded away long ago. I thought at one point I could feel anger and rage, age old coming out of the walls itself. Needless to say I took the journal and ran. Having read the entries that were not burned I feared that the Blue mage had not been entirely truthfull when he told me about his actions in the past. I had no choice but to confront him on the matter. I went to his tent as he was eating his breakfast, threw down the book and said "I want the truth. Now." To his credit, he told me everything he knew. They met for their duel where none would see what occured. Alex and Warlic fought, with Warlic's superior magic skills wearing Alex down. in desperation he cast an Ice spell unfamilair to the Blue Mage, who deflected it with a spell of his own. The result was devastating. The spell backlashed and froze Jannia in crystal that the Blue Mage was unable to break due to not knowing the spell's parameters. Alex himself had been hit with the backlash from the combined Spells and was on fire and in great pain. Warlic, not knowing what to do, did the only thing he could and turned it into a healing fire in an attempt to save his life. Now he was in too much pain and could not die. Surrounded by the very thing he feared, and now the only thing keeping him alive, the person he loved taken from from him, and Warlic having apparently suffered nothing from the incident, Alex went insane and fled, becoming the threat we now know today as Xan. It was clear Warlic had been affeted too, if not physicly, then mentaly. It was his arrogence that had frozen the woman he cared for and unleashed a horrific threat upon the world. However, he was not alone to blame in this. After all, Alex too rose to the bait. Of course, What would have happened if Warlic had won without incident and his arrogence had not been tempered by this event? Maybe even now we would be fighting the Blue mage, with Alex or Jannia alongside us as we tried to show him the error of his ways. In such a situation as this there are no winners. Even so, I could not forgive him. He did not ask for such forgiveness either. he seemed to know that what occured was beyond redemption. I left with the book, and even now intend to show it to king Alteon so that he may decide the fate of those involved. It is my hope that one day we can fix this tragedy. But should you encounter Xan in your travels, you must temper your mercy with Justice, for even if he is a victim here, he is also one of the greatist monsters our world has ever known, and will not show you any of either. Codename K.
