Legendary AK!!!

I put all of the available information relating to the puzzle we are currently working on in the fifth post of this page; if you want to help then please at least read the rest of the thread before asking for help.

Duplexing the method used on the Braille cipher would seem straightforward enough at first glance... but why is nothing working?

The original method was shifting the alphabet by one step after each character including spaces and punctuation but eliminating spaces when possessive form was used, or something like that. One of the definitions for "duplex" is "twofold," so perhaps we needed to shift by two steps after each character... but nothing coherent is coming out of this method.

Another idea was to run the entire thing through twice - so shift the whole message one step at a time and then take the resulting code and run it through again. But once more nothing resembling words has appeared.

Some other cryptonauts suggested another definition of "duplex" which is used in telecommunications, where a signal flows in both directions at the same time. We tried a mixture of two alphabet shifts, one starting from a and one from z and mixed together like so:

azbycxdwevfugthsirjqkplommnnolpkqjrishtgufvewdxcybza

No luck.

We've considered that the coded message may be backwards as well, and ran the same tests on it both ways. Still nothing! I'm going to bed

I'd give you all a hand for a job well done, but I appear to have misplaced mine.

I will tell you this, someone already solved the second step of the hand puzzle, but can you solve the last few steps?

Tick tock, tick tock.

The Latin root for duplex is: duo (two) + plico (fold together). Perhaps we need to combine, or fold together two keys? I tried "folding together" the original key and got acbccbdaeyfygwhvjukqlpmn, but this doesn't seem to work either.

When you translate them, do they all come out as capital letters...?
Also what ciphers have we tried so far, just to be caught up.

Surprisingly, I don't have much to contribute at this time. Perhaps the second step was converting to ASCII? Which we knew we already did, and which renders Eldron's clue kinda obnoxious.

quote:

Tick tock, tick tock.

Ahh... Maybe alternate one alphabet going forwards and one going backwards...
i.e. azbycxdwevfugt...etc.?

Good Luck! kinda busy today.. :/

EDIT: or even the other way around, i.e. zaybxc etc.

Helpful and Constructive!

Maybe the step we got right is one of the keys we've tried? Perhaps we still have to something else after that...

I know what the tick tock means. It was one of the keyless ciphers! I don't remember it's name but Lkeas would know. It was a circle with another circles inside.

Edit:Oh yes, that's right, it was Alberti. I'd love to offer more help, but the chat is... acting stupid for me.

It's the Alberti Cipher.

Alberti Disk

Another Version

I think its Alberti because it is round like a clock, It is Duplex (has two rings stacked) and you find the letters by rotating the disc clockwise once each time. Oh and its keyless.

By "puzzles" he means puzzles. I'm certain you are familiar with the word.

Guys, think outside the box...

You might come up with something, for I am not. But it's still one thing you could try doing.

That's right.

Think outside the box...
