To save and reopen a file in Pheonix:

1) In Pheonix, go to File > Save As and enter the title of your work.
2) If you're still logged in, go back to the Aviary Home page. You may have to refresh the page.
3) Under the top banner, click the Your Images link.
4) Select the image you want to open.
5) On the right side, there is a big button that says "Open in Pheonix". Click it.

That's all there is to it.

I've just gotten access to phoenix. I put my field of interest as 3D modeling, or whatever they call it. dunno about invites & such, I'll have to look around the website

woot!! i got accepted...it seems a lot like PS...all the buttons are in the same place and stuff...but one prblm...short keys like "Ctrl+Z" dosent work...any idea y?...

Aviary is not Photoshop, and so the hotkeys won't work/be the same. I'd get used to the program through the menus and such first.

But ctrl+z did work for me... dunno why it's not for you...

well...some of the short keys are similar...i checked...but it dosent work...for example, when i press "Ctrl+D" (select none), a favourites box pops up..

And 1: Probably because of which one you signed up for. I chose Penguin, the Writing tool, and got accepted. The more popular the tool, the longer you'll wait is my guess.

@dep: that may be the case...but i signed up for vector editing...and it is pretty famous...and i got accepted within a couple of days...wierd...

Duuude! Woop I waited for Phoenix, It's great. Great smudge tool! Lets see what I can make.

EDIT: Good liquify tool as well.

When you open the tool window, a screen pops up asking if you want to start from scratch or open a file. On the bottom right(?) is a little line that says "New egg? Click here"

That'll bring you to the forums, and you can navigate through there to find tutorials and tips and such.

 Note: This is NOT a general discussion thread for Aviary (or at least that's the message I got through the first post).

Note: Pretty much NONE of the programs have been released, except for Pheonix. The other one's are still being created, but the staff has made stickies, asking for beta testers in Raven and Peacock, I think.


I really like this. Pheonix is great because it's a freeware. I'd just use that if I were at a friends house or something, while I'd use GIMP/PS at home. The only fault in my opinion is lack of filters and there's no pentool/pathtool. I read that they were adding the pentool, and filter, I guess, will come with time (liquify RULES!)

I also really like the concept. The animals, and such that is. With the .egg format for saving, and lots of other little perks that I find amusing, I'm with iChar on this. This might be the next great thing. It's really nice that it's also an uploading space, and that the staff will give you invitations if you create neat stuff.


After going inviting what little GFX-ing friends I have to Aviary, I have 3 or so invitations left. I am willing to give these away only to anyone who for some reason cannot download suitable programs like The GIMP (maybe because their parents allow no download, or their OS can't handle it, etc. Please PM me with the reason you cannot download anything, and I may or may not invite you.
