@Full - If that's what gives you inspiration. I prefer more lighthearted soft-hard rock music. I don't do much metal or pop/r&b and just about 0 urban. Call me old fashioned XD

I listen to Aerosmith, AC/DC, A bit of Sabbath, Cheap Trick, Blue Oyster Cult, Supertramp, Red Hot Chilis, Kaiser Chiefs, Keane, Joan Jett, Heart and the like.

While .Full likes the droning riffs, I like the catchy hooks and breakdowns =D

Also, Random Euphoria FTW! I woke up in a really happy mood (happier than usual =D)

Also, has anyone tried CS4 yet? Is it worth the extortionate amount of money?

Nope haven't tried CS4 yet. I saw some reviews that said it was worth it but not a major upgrade.

I usually don't listen to music when drawing. It more often than not distracts me more than it helps me. When I do listen to music I listen to soundtrack music (Like the music from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carrebean etc.)

Certainly haven't tried CS4; I'm still stuck with no Flash and Photoshop 4.0 Elements. Meh. And I won't be getting Flash anytime soon, since I've recently spend all of my money on a tablet.

Which brings me to my question: Are you all really that rich? A lot of people in the gallery seem to have Flash, Photoshop or both, and often pretty new versions too. How do you manage to get those programs? Do you spend all of your money on making art?

I'm a lucky one. Since I board, I can use the school's network licenses. I don't know what I'll do after I leave.

I definitely wouldn't use at least photoshop if I couldn't use the network licenses.

Same as Althorne. My school's the only reason I can use Photoshop and Flash.

Otherwise their really pricy.

Eh, Flash CS4 looks so very awesome in the animator's eye, but I doubt I'll be able to upgrade, even if it is only $199 (for an upgrade) I say "only" because the actual thing is $699. Yeah, that much. I really want to use the bone tool, though. That is my main attraction to the upgrade. This is such a breakthrough with Flash Animation, so it'll be so sweet! I haven't really heard anything about the other CS4 products, though...

I have a copy of Flash 8 Basic, that's all I animate with. My school has the full Professional Adobe suite...but I don't have the money nor the need for it really to get it myself. For music, I play a piano or compose with Finale Notepad.

I cannot work without listening to music - without it, most of my artistic creativity is gone as I play an instrument and compose music. When I'm not playing music, though, I'm listening to some for inspiration, relaxation, or enjoyment.

Everything I listen to is dark and morbid, but not its goth or emo music. I draw inspiration from songs that are considered so evil, so demonic sounding, your parents will call an exorcist . The cursed atmosphere, the droning guitar riffs muddled with thick, heavy distortion, the agonized growls of a man possessed. What the average person would think is so hideous, I find tragically beautiful... What I hear, I try to give it embodiment in my work...
most of the time atleast =/

Sounds.. Lovely.

wellfor music, i listen to it at any possible time throughout my day. Music is by far my food. I have no specific music for when I am creating art, but everything I do listen to can be called inspiring. I'll listen to everything from hardcore, to psychedelic, to underground rap, to jazz. Top bands/artists are Frank Zappa, Fiery Furnaces, Happy Apple, Genghis Tron, Kimya Dawson, The Epoxies, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Modest Mouse, Marble Mummy, ect. Of course I look for new bands almost weekly when I have time. Of coure here is a FULL layout of my musical interests :) http://www.last.fm/user/Ts1

and as for CS4, I was using cs2 from the day i got it many years ago. then i switched to linux, and had to step down to cs. really the upgrades don't have too much difference. my school has cs3, which has some nice little gadgets, especially for photo editing, which is what we use it for, but nothing I would really use. I haven't looked into cs4, for i really have no need for it, and they probably won't have it working for wine in a while, but illycs4 might be interesting, because I'm still using 10 XD

on a side note, thanks for this thread grafh and nicky, I see it working out great with a little moderation XD

I'm known as a really cool artistic Flash designer and drawer at my school. I have yet to find anyone to beat mah skillz in most computer stuff, including Flash and Illustrator.

I wish I could find someone outside of these forums with at least any skill in Flash. :/

I don't show off my stuff at school much, but when i even show some of the most mediocre stuff, people are flabbergasted.
it's actually quite embarrassing XD

I'm the no. 2 computer person at my school. If i'm on the forums, sometimes people ask to see my stuff. They're very critical which is good. They think it's a little bit sad, but who cares =D

I generally don't flaunt my work. But somehow when it makes its way around by a friend, I always turn out to be the only one with experience in the school. My Photoshopping got me a spot on the Journalism group at our school.

I dont show it much either. Ive only been GFXing for three months but as TS1 said if someone happens to see they make a big deal. This is what I do at home for the most part.

lol, CS4 is out already? I didn't even know CS3 was out...
;_;

I tried showing my work off when I did go to school (I'm vain like), but everybody thought I didn't make any of it. It was quite disheartening, really, since all my friends thought I could barely work a computer, let alone Photoshop.
Either way I whooped up on them in Halo 3 the day after =|.

If I ever divorce The GIMP, I might flirt with CS4 (or whatever the newest version of PS is at that time, lol).

And I don't think more than twenty people in my school have seen my art... and two of those are teachers. I really just haven't ever had enough confidence in my work to show it off... I did use it in a Powerpoint project once, and I'm using it in another this year, but only as things to spruce it all up. =)

Nobody I know in real life except my family has seen my stuff, I'm pretty sure. No one even thinks about computers lol, I just do what I'm assigned and that's it, especially since my school is so poor the only stuff they have that can be counted as commercial is computers, Office 2007 Suite, and Trend Micro Security, and some other security things which aren't very reliable. So, little ol me is stuck with GIMP and Flash that my dad's friends in Egypt got him

I have CS4, it the the sexiest program evah. :P
I highly recommend it.
I don't know what the 3D feature is like though, my video card is crap, meaning the 3D images are REALLY choppy >_<

Nobody in real life know about my artistic life (Except for 2 freinds).
I've seen people do some stuff in the school computer room before.
I had an urge to show them my work but I figured it would be best not to.
My dad saw me spriting once and thought it was amazing.
I just said to him: "Meh, it's nothing."
Fortunatly, he didn't bother me any further.

What is your opinion on using other peoples resources? (Brushes, C4Ds, Renders etc)
Are you the type of person who would rather not use them, or do you use them to your advantage as much as possible?

@Dylan/TS1: Yeah, me too. It's going really well so far :D. But it was really Althorne's idea from the suggestions thread :).

Yeah I'm a pretty top computer person in my grade. Showed my friends my Large Pieces but they weren't very critical- more praise for me really :d. I'm yet to see anyone in my grade that knows Flash though. My teacher told me to get off Paint when I was trying something in ActionScript during Geography when I was meant to be looking up stuff on rainforests. I think I actually made the o.O face. Put myself down for an Online Animation class which involved Flash games, but on the sheet of subjects I got it just says "Computers". Is being more vague possible? >.>.

CS4 looks sweet. I'm going to ask my dad to buy it for his work (he's an exhibition stand and event designer, so International Air Show, Motor Shows, Army exhibitions, that kind of stuff) and let me install it into my laptop too. Flash CS4's new features look awesome for animators as Treadeh said with the Bone tool and whatnot.

About resources, I usually don't use other people's stuff, I'd prefer to be able to say that I made it all from scratch by myself. Only sometimes I use splatter brushes and such but I'm pretty fine with making my own C4D renders, which usually turn out pretty cool.

I don't think you can use another artist's work (be it a render or something else) and truly claim the finished piece as your own. If you haven't made it from scratch, it's basically an edit in my opinion, no matter how many cool effects you throw over it.

I use them as best as I can. For brushes, I get them off various websites where the maker(s) lets you use them for free. For renders I get them off websites where makers(s) allow people to use them for free as well. I sometimes make my own renders as well. For c4ds, I can't install anything on my computer and I can't even make c4d's so I use free ones where the maker(s) allow you to use them.

CS4 does look awesome but it's really pricy. Like $600 right?
