I'm downloading CS4 trial for flash as we speak. If I think it can really improve my animation, well... Christmas is coming. And I only need an upgrade license.

I've been thinking... What makes modern(ish) sculptors like Michelangelo etc. better than the sculptures found in Greece. They are practically the same? I have no idea...

Also, do you think that ancient works of art should be returned to their country of origin? I'm not really sure. We (Brits) are supposed to return the Parthenon marbles to Greece... You can be all honourable and say... Of Course! They made them. But it raises further questions. Should pride let countries hold onto things, or want them back? What if other countries can look after them better? What if they are in private collections? I think that they should be returned, provided the country that wants them back can prove that they can protect them better than the country that already has them. There's no point letting them go to waste for pride.

What do you all think?

Pretty much with you on that one Althorne. It's their art so they do have a right to keep it.

I just got Photoshop CS4 in today.

Company discounts from my grandpa ftw.

I haven't got a chance to explore all its capabilities yet.

I'm getting the trial for Flash CS4 right now. The bone tool is going to be so freakin' cool... My animation will be enhanced by tenfold. Though, so mny other people will be good, too, so I'll have to try and up my game! :D

I'll report back with some opinions when I'm done testing.

As for Al's question, I absolutely think that whoever has something in their possession should be able to do what they will with it. Be it a war from long ago, a pirate plundering, or anything of the like that has been done as far in the past as when some artifacts from Greece were taken, they have their rights to do whatever they'd want to with them. Although it is the right thing to return to Greece, and what I think these museums should do, they are allowed to do what they like to them.

I think that pieces of art should be in their original country, like the Rosetta stone should be in Egypt, why? Cause it was found in that country

I wasn't too sure on your first question whether you were asking what was better - the actual artist or the sculpture itself. If you meant sculpture, I don't even agree that modern artists' works are better than that of the ancients :S.

There was a certain period of history where everything was stolen among countries, works of art especially. Music, towers, pillars and columns, statues, songs, mosaics, paintings, sculptures, monuments ... [and by that I also mean ideas]

I think they (stolen art) belong where they are now. Yes of course, it does belong to another country, but it's not like a war is going to start just because several thousand years ago we stole this from them, or they stole this from that country. I think history is history, and works of art from a scattered variety of several countries that are not from it's originated country are already there, and I think that makes the art so special is that Greek sculptures aren't just in Greece and that Mesopotamian momuments are all over European countries. And all of what I'm saying may not even be correct... I could just be jumbling all my facts together -_-. By all means if they want it back, it would be morally wrong to say "no, we stole them from you, you can't have it back", but I think it's a part of the country now even though originally it never belonged to them.

And most countries probably do take care of those things better than the origin country would (an assumption of course). And obviously since those things are thousands of years old, I'm sure by now the only reason people want to see them is their historical significance and how old they are, not just because they were stolen from some other country. As long as they're seen by the public eye and put into good use and not just sitting there, I think it belongs where it is. Plus it would be quite a hassle to hoard all these ancient things back to the original country, reasons being some are just massive, others incredibly fragile.

----

Edit:
Lol I don't even know if Althorne's question was even a new topic, possibly just rhetorical xP, and that we were still going with the topic on the previous page. If that's the case, then ignore what I wrote and move on lol.

I generally stick to my own guns as far as resources go. Having a load of c4ds, stocks, renders, ect. is really nice when you are starting out. Hell, most of us would never get off the ground without them. But as you get going, it's proper to shed that skin and walk on your own. At this point, I only use sprites, which are public domain, and a few stocks from some of my favorite recourse guys, because they are too amazing not to be used.

and with the arts
to track the history of how a counrty came into possession of a piece is unthinkable. A person could have legally bought it hundreds of years ago, or it could have been stolen by marauders. Noone knows. So in all fairness, and to avoid much confuson, they should jsut stay where they are imo.

and because tedlyt says i should post it here:

Indeed I did, Tesswan. ;D

Flash CS4 is so.... awesome. I literally could not believe my eyes.

Along with the new tools (Deco, Bone, 3D), there is a completely new interface change that I had no idea was even coming. Screenshot.

I have yet to test everything, but you can see that I am trying to use the bone tool. There are new tween settings, 3D animations options, etc.

Though, I have yet to see any Filtering options (blur, glow, bevel etc.). I am kind of disappointed about that, though. This is indeed an interesting and expansive update.

You can check out more about Flash CS4 Professional right on the Adobe website: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/

i find that quite retarded.
if there are ways that i can improve my work, why not use them?
it would be such a waste not to.

Well I'm too darn poor to afford any new Adobe products, but I'll stick with Image-Line for now.

I think it's a given what music I listen to while creating art.... XD

yeah i thought the cs3 upgrades burnt my pockets, jeez. i only upgraded... seems like less than 6 months ago? albeit only flash and photoshop are worth the money for my personal needs, cs4 is a little out of reach for now. maybe someday. or maybe i'll wait till release 5, since they seem to be speeding out so quickly.

Q: Have you ever felt guilty or bad for the fact that you haven't updated your Gallery in awhile?

I know I have, and am feeling guilty and bad right now. My stinkin' Vista is now broken because of its own upgrade, Vista Service Pack 1. I really want to make stuff and show it in my gallery, but I don't have Flash on any of my computers. I definitely feel bad right now.

You?

Read the rules. Do not show your sig here. ~Grafh

I have enough work with my stories, poetry commissions, and school to be too torn over not updating my gallery. But I hate when it falls off the first page...

I have the same feeling as _Depression.
I try to make a piece of art (usually a a tag) a day like Mo.
I like my gallery to be active and for people to comment in it.
If somebody comments, I usually repay the favour.

Over 24hrs since last post, so current topic is dead.

I have no topic in mind, but let me just remind you folks, talk here does not have to be limited on art. Just keep it clean and spam free.

Hmm, I'm a big fan of classic songs, so I'd either have:
Hallelujah - Umm... Can't remember who sung it...
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zepellin (Farewell Dad... )
Man in the Rain - Maggie Oldfield (Yeah, I know it says Mike on the internet, but Maggie sung it!)

Or perhaps some songs that aren't as well known, like:
Believe in Yourself - Crush 40 (I think, it's in Sonic Adventure for DC and GC)
I am All of Me - Crush 40 (Shadow the Hedgehog - GC)
Warcry of a Paladin - John Quarles (You haven't heard of this song? There's the door, get out! (Nah, just kidding.))

~Peace Out,

~Jiggi.
