Ee! Let's do this.

And yes you did, Eldron. This was a colossal jump in difficulty, though. :P

It's fine. All the more prestige to the ones who solve it.

I don't think it's as difficult as you think. If you can't go forwards, go backwards with every thing you've done until now.

BTW: 4 rail, definitely 4 rail!

Hmm, I gues that would be hints 4 and 5, but who's keeping score?

Heh, thanks.

Okay. When you take Fal, AA and Zorby out of the puzzle, you get exactly 50 characters: the same amount as in the new hint! Working.

Alrighty. With said NPCs taken out and then 4-rail ciphered, we get:

spoiler:

ABKDQ VTIAQ IDYVV CECII CJJTS TNBIK HVCQI HHJYY AVKIH NVJ IY

Wait wait wait, this makes a lot of sense. If we do it backwards, starting with the first method of solution and going back, we get... well, I'm working on it, but it makes sense. I'll be back to you in a minute.

Yup. So we have words' lenghts and the text should be formated like this:
A V I C C T H H A B T D E
J N V H V K I Y C J B C J
K N D A V I T I Q Y I V
I Q Q V I S K I Y H J Y

Okay. 4-rail'd and edited to match new X clue, we have:

spoiler:

AB KDQ VTI AQID YVV, CEC’II CJJT, STNBIK HVCQ! -IHHJYY AVK IHNVJIY

Subbing.

EDIT: If this is correct, we can't use the substitution method from last time. We have to think of a new one.

Whose name goes 122344?

Hrm. Off the top of my head, YVV could be ALL. If that's true:

spoiler:

?? ??? L?? ???? ALL, ???’?? ????, ?????? ?L??! -????AA ?L? ???L??A

I think we should focus on the signature - who can be "123456 123 1234567"?

Right, that's what I mean. The first name in the signature is 122344, as letter1;letter2 letter2; letter3; letter4 letter4.

By letter1;letter2; do you mean in the alphabet, or something else?

I mean there is a letter, then the next two letters are the same, then another letter, then the next two are the same. For instance:

ABBCDD; WXXYZZ; PQQLNN. Or any other combination. If Hans' name was HAANSS it would fit.

With the bolded part, it's possible that I is l. However, that would contradict the above statement. With the italicized, some common double letters are oo, ee, tt, and ss.

> Nex:

I strongly doubt the code is just a letter substitution.
Thus the letter repetition in the code probably does not indicate the same letter in the decrypted message.

I can see Lord Eldron has created a bit of a stir with the difficulty of his most recent endeavor. For the tasks ahead however we must be sure. What we have begun to learn about the WarpForce indicates that nothing save boldness and diligence in your inquiry will suffice.

I will offer a hint of my own. The inquisitors sign their own inquisition.

After taking the squareroot & converting to numbers 1=A, 2=B, etc:
quote:

A V F I C A C L T H E R H I A
B N T D A E D J M N V I H V R
K A I L Y C A J M B C A J K N
D D A A V I T Z I O Q Y I V I
R Q Q V B I S K I A Y H J Y K

I'm not entirely sure how to decode a rail, which is probably why I got a different answer than Nex. Here is how I did it.

After Fal, A.A., & Zorby removed:
quote:

A V I C C T H H A
B T D E J N V H V
K I Y C J B C J K N
D A V I T I Q Y I V I
Q Q V I S K I Y H J Y

Then, in a 4 row Rail:
spoiler:

A • • • • • V • • • • • I • • • • • C • • • • • C • • • • • T • • • • • H • • • • • H • • • • • A •
• B • • • T • D • • • E • J • • • N • V • • • H • V • • • K • I • • • Y • C • • • J • B • • • C • J
• • K • N • • • D • A • • • V • I • • • T • I • • • Q • Y • • • I • V • • • I • Q • • • Q • V • • •
• • • I • • • • • S • • • • • K • • • • • I • • • • • Y • • • • • H • • • • • J • • • • • Y • • • •

Decoded yeilds this:
spoiler:

ABKINTVDDSAEIJVKINCVTIIHCVQYYKTIIHVYHCIJQJHBQYVCAJ

If there is an error, please let me know.

Adding the X clue:
spoiler:

XX XXX XXX XXXX XXX, XXX'XX XXXX, XXXXXX XXXX! -XXXXXX XXX XXXXXXX

AB KIN TVD DSAE IJV, KIN'CV TIIH, CVQYYK TIIH! -VYHCIJ QJH BQYVCAJ

That would be a highly unusual way for Eldron to sign his name...

Ahem.

What I mean to say is that order of operations is often vital when seeking an answer.

Indeed, Fal. We now know that the signature is
spoiler:

Eldron and Falerin

We obviously have the order of steps wrong, hence the 122344-weirdness. We knew this, but thanks for the confirmation. ;P

Gah! We're so close yet so far! I know who the "inquisitors" are and where that's supposed to go, but I can't get the cipher to line up correctly to match those letter patterns Gotta keep trying those rails, or something...

EDIT - Ahhh, I typo'ed, nice work guys! Bout time we laid this one to rest

using what azami said, combined with Eldron and Falerin, we have...

spoiler:

AB KIN TVD DSAE IJV, KIN'CV TIIH, CVQYYK TIIH! -VYHCIJ QJH BQYVCAJ
if KoN TeD DSiE one, KoN're Tood, reallK Tood! -Eldron and Falerin

this makes me think that K->y, N->u, and T->g...

if you geD DSiE one, you're good, really good! -Eldron and Falerin

which makes me think that D->t...

if you get tSiE one, you're good, really good! -Eldron and Falerin

S and E have nothing to compare to, but the message as i see it means, "If you get this one, you're good, really good! -Eldron and Falerin"

...Yeah.

Edit: well, at least it was less than a minute... and i may have been here for a minute less lol! Yeah... this message doesn't really give anything away though...
