OH MY! What a question! For me, my influences are widely varied. I think we all tend to take our writing styles from a number of diefferent influences, some we can really recognize, others that are more hidden. Tolkien's usage of the epic edda the Voluspa is quite visible in a coming work, "The Twenty Fifth Rune", as I lean VERY heavily on the epic edda Havamal, as well as borrowing bits from the Voluspa and the Lay of Rig as well. I think he had an influence with me on the fantasy as well, as, indeed he has with MOST fantasy, even if indirectly, since the publication of The Hobbit. Beyond that, Stephen King, H.P. Lovecraft (and thus, indirectly, Lord Dunsany) Micheal Moorcock, who's eternal champion saga is one of my favorites, Terry Pratchett, Isaac Asimov, Robert Lynn Aspirin, and Piers Anthony are the ones that spring immediately to mind. Of course being me, I feel I need to include other writers who have had a more subtle influence on my writing, such as Niccolo Machiavelli, Frederich Wilhelm Neitzie, Dante, Homer, Shakespeare, and even the Marquis De Sade... there are so many places we draw our influences from that it's hardly possible to list them all.
