Constructively Friendly!

What writing advice have you been given, and what did you think of it?

Have you ever given writing advice to someone else? (Posting in this thread excepted. )

I give my friends advice on their individual stories. But sometimes, that advice is more shoving a book in their hands and saying, "This is what your NYC should be." (Did that to my friend who was writing a few scenes in the Bronx, but I added "without Batman." She complied and it's awesome.)

The last thing I need is to tell my friends that their stories need editing. They would eat me up. <.<

But with the intranets, critiquing becomes so much easier and relatively anonymous! Plus, I'm not too good with writing myself, so any advice from me is usually not good advice... <.<
