The damned warrior had pulled his weapon out of the way. If it had been trapped, then it would've been a simple enough matter of slowly crushing him, when he was held down. Hopefully the shard was doing its work... The shard! Gholkn had had an idea, which was the most brilliant one he'd had all day. If he could see the shard, he could cause it to rip through the man's body, and in doing so, win one battle for-

"If I were the Earthlord, I'd be ashamed to even call you dirt!" this highly unnecessary comment was followed by a wave of searing heat, which started to felt down the iron surrounding Van Gholkn. Luckily for him, his cube had only five sides, with the exit being to his rear. He was glad that he now knew his opponent's element, although this gnat was only one out of many opponents. The other thing which was annoying, was the large ringing sound resonating through the chamber. When his weapon had collided with the front wall, it had dinted the iron, and melted a large hole in the front. "COME OUT AND FACE ME LIKE A MAN," was the other comment which Liam had made. Undoubtedly, there had been several more, but while deafened, Gholkn hadn't heard them. The blood coursing down his back wasn't helping either, but there was a way to fix that (Hopefully). Running up to the left wall, avoiding the rapidly enlarging hole, Van stripped his poncho off, and threw it at the wall, which would be (hopefully) distracting to his enemy. Underneath that, was his chainmail shirt, which he pressed the back off against the blisteringly hot wall.

The effect was near-instantaneous. The chainmail heated up, and began to melt, which seared his back, heating up the wound and sealing it. With a now red-hot chainmail shirt, Gholkn stepped around the back (still avoiding the hole) and jumped out to the side. When Liam was in view, approximately two seconds later, he extended his hands, and charged again. While charging, he started ripping the spike across Liam's body, up towards his heart. It would take another three seconds to reach it, if nothing stopped it. Accounting for various bones and stuff, that was an additional four seconds till it impaled him.

"Eh? How's that!! Take that you miserable roasting piece of swine!" Van tried to counter-insult him, which would hopefully distract him for just long enough for something to happen.

Feng watched as the three shards of obsidian flew straight towards him. Luckily, he had prepared for this exact situation. With the geomantic energy he had stored in his hand he hoisted his hands up into the air, a wall made of the earth below him about 6 feet wide and 6 feet tall covered Feng's body. Of course, he expected more shards to come. The wall was only about three feet wide, and he couldn't hide behind it to much.

He also assumed that Tyon was running out of energy, he had shot more than enough obsidian at him to store in that tiny frame. Feng put his broadsword away, seeing that it would be more useful at a closer range. Basically, he was going to wait this one out. Tyon was faster at running and would basically continue the cowardly thing he was doing and run away. The bleeding in his arm wasn't too bad, but luckily, he could always use the other arm if need be.

Also, now that the wall was formed, he wouldn't have to worry about keeping it up with his energy. Seeing as it was all natural to begin with, all he did was simply move it up, and he wouldn't be wasting energy keeping it on the surface.

Slugger guessed as soon as his blade touched 'skin' that his opponent was too wily to go down that quickly. For one, he'd seen the man coming, he looked trained, and Slugger had cleaved enough people in half to know that the figure he hit gave too little resistance to his blade. The lack of blood spurting from a hundred cut arteries and the fact that the form shimmered and faded like a mirage as soon as the blade went through were just confirmations of an already suspicious mind. Not a bad illusion, though. Some blood and I may have fallen for it.

The flames the fairy called began to tug and bend toward him, a consequence of his latent aura sapping the energy from them. At the same moment, Slugger whipped his head around left and right, trying to find where Ed had gone after the mirage. Seeing nothing, he knew exactly where his opponent was - it was all he could do to push off his stance and stumble forward as a hammer swung through where he was a moment before. Slugger rose and turned, suspecting - correctly - that his freezing move had caught his opponent off guard just as the mirage had him. A smirk touched the areas of his face that the cowl failed to cover, spitting to the ground. This will be interesting.

To the challenge of the fairy? He glanced at the gathering inferno, grunted neutrally, and turned back. She was a useful source of energy before, and all she was now was a useful source of energy which had a mouth attached.

Gently adjusting his grip back into holding his bastard sword by his hip as with the initial charge, Slugger side-stepped slowly around his opponent, keeping the mirror-wall close to his back to prevent a copy of the last trick that had almost hit him. He paused for a moment, moved to step right, then immediately pushed forward, raising his blade for an over-head strike - another game-winner, if it struck. When the blade reached his head, however, he exposed his trick. The elaborate over-head strike was simply a feint; his real strike was to throw the pommel of his sword forward for the face, to either force his opponent back or break his nose - either seemed like good options.

Slugger pressed the advantage, pulling his sword back to his head to gather momentum. Pushing his weight forward, Slugger went for the slash he was feinting for to begin with, a heavy strike downward for the collarbone which would have mirrored his first blow were it not for the fact that nothing slowed his swing this time; the knight let the aura of cold fade and quickly get overpowered by the fairy's inferno, knowing that it provided little advantage now. Sweat glistened from his exposed skin (in other words, his cheeks and chin) as the air quickly heated up from its previous point of being a good deal below freezing. Slugger didn't look exhausted, exactly, but he certainly looked hot. In both senses of the word.

Liam's mouth twisted upwards in a flitting smile before regaining its previous, hard-set state again. His strike had done more than he had expected. Not only had it heated up his opponent's iron enclosure, it had burned right through the metal, allowing him to pull the weapon's other head out. Fate was certainly smiling upon him this day, he thought. This thought was accentuated even more as his opponent rounded the metal box and through his coat at him. Liam grinned slightly as a plan came to mind.

The two heads of his meteor hammer were already spinning above him, getting faster by the second. Unfazed by the retort the charging Van through at him, he focused on one of them in his mind's eye once more, long tendrils of magic slithering up the chain to empower it. The effect started as a small wisp of smoke, but quickly grew to a large inferno trailing behind the spinning head in a ring of magical fire. As the coat came close enough, Liam increased the arc of the flaming head, so that it became on course with it. Just as the two touched, Liam let go of the magic, and the flame died out instantly. It was enough, though, as tiny bouts of fire started to spring along the thick fabric, sparks jumping from one spot to another like tiny insects. The flames quickly spread, turning what was once a jacket into a giant sheet of fire, hanging from the end of his weapon. Swinging the chain up in a wide arc, Liam let the cloth collapse in on itself, forming a crewed fireball of sorts. Then with a jerk of his hand, he sent it flying towards his opponent. The flanges on his weapon had done their job well, cutting through the cloth in its wild spin; for what was first a fireball was now a swarm of small, flaming bits of cloth, all flying at the man in front of him.

A slight tugging from his right hip sent a renewed wave up his side, making him wince, drawing his attention to the spike still embedded in the spot. The idea had crossed his mind several times, but he had not acted on it in hopes that it wouldn't happen. He thought he knew what the man was trying to do; he was turning out to be quite predictable. His left hand let go of the chain it was holding, flying quickly to his right side. His fingers reached the earth shard just before it sank beneath his vest, and he yanked it out hurriedly. The spike came out in a large spurt of blood, falling to the floor where it was quickly crushed under his heal. It had already dealt him a large wound, however, and blood began gushing from the spot, soaking down his legs and into his boots.

Soaking... Wet... water...

The idea that flashed through his mind was somewhat disturbing, and he wasn't sure it would work, but it would give him quite the advantage if it worked. He leaned over, groaning dramatically as to pretend he was in agonizing pain, letting his blood pool in a small puddle at his feet. Then he backpedaled a few feet, sending more magic up the chain in his right hand as he went. The gushing wound in his side slowed him down, though, and it showed in his movement. When he had gone far enough, he stopped, and through his right hand forward to send one of the heads above his head into a long arc towards the puddle of blood he had created. As the head hit the blood in a splash of red, it released another wave of heat. In an instant, the blood began to boil, a deafening boom resounding through the small arena. Where the puddle of blood had once been was now a small, condensed cloud of red-tinted steam, which quickly expanded to form a thin mist that obscured him from his opponent.

Hoping that his distraction would be enough, he quickly recovered his weapon and began dashing around the cloud of blood. Coming out to Van's right, he pulled his second meteor hammer free, jerking both heads from their resting places into motion above him. The battle had really started now, and there was no point in holding back, his opponent already knew what he could do. Even though his movements were slowed by his injuries, he still showed exceptional control as he twirled all four steel heads above him in an impressive display of skill. He sprinted towards the large man, holding one of the heads under his wound so that it was coated in blood. When he drew close, he let two of the heads arc to the side, flying past Van to cross each other at the end of their path, forming a quickly closing loop around his neck. The third one he aimed at the man's head, to incapacitate, or very unlikely kill, him. The last, blood coated, one, he sent towards his big belly, charged with another heat wave. When it hit, the heat would once again steam the blood it was coated in, though this time at a much smaller, more concentrated level. If the attack got far enough, the man's obvious fat would serve as excellent fuel. It would hopefully be enough distraction to allow him to kill the man quickly.

'I have to get this over with quickly', he thought, for he was losing blood very fast, and he wasn't sure how long he would last.

On one of the original days of creation, the Water Lord made steam. Van was getting very annoyed. Not only did his spike fail to kill the man within the seven seconds he had needed, but his favourite shirt was now in flames, and being used as a weapon against him. To add to the list, he had been knocked over, thwacked, chained, and burnt. The second most recent thing was the small shockwave which had bowled him over, and apparently, started this accursed mist, tainted with blood, to swarm all over the area around him. The fireball statement hadn't been completely accurate, it was more like several small fireballs charging at him. To combat this, (and rightfully, regretfully so,) he bent over and summoned his gold necklace off of his neck, and used the chain links to block each fireball.

Gold is one of the elements he can control, so he now reversed the fireballs and sent them back towards their owner. The rest of the necklace, (which was about a tenth) dropped to the ground. It was "lucky" that Van had stooped to take his necklace off, as the two hammer-heads had missed his head completely and wrapped over thin air. The mist was obscuring everything, so it was again, very lucky, that the third hammer-head had also, just missed him. What wasn't so lucky was the one that was about to strike him in the gut. It hit him in the gut, and all hell broke loose.

First off, there was the immediate winding. Van collapsed to the ground, and negligently raised his arm, forgetting he still had control of the other piece of gold, which rose into the air and entangled itself amongst the meteor-like heads, attempting to bind them together. The sheer force of the blow had forced him back, which pissed him off. Secondly, his armour was heating up rapidly. There was another shockwave, and Gholkn was lifted off of his arse on the ground, and launched about midway down the field, back in line with the doorway. His body was starting to heat up, but humid temperatures had trained the bulky man to withstand being dehydrated. For now, he wasn't bursting into flames, and was instead sweating profusely. The steam had thinned a little bit, and Gholkn was out of its range anyway. His gold had been gravatationally altered, and was so light, that it was holding the three heads up amongst the steam. It was time to initiate another plan, which was spur of the moment.

His body was still heating up, and he was feeling slightly dizzy. The chieftain's left hand glove, still had its eleven spikes, minus three that were damaged when he fell. From which fall, wasn't certain. Concentrating was getting a lot harder but he still had to press on. Pointing at the half melted cube, he de-weighted it, although the effect wouldn't be visible for several more seconds. Hopefully, it would look like a last defiant rise against, but Gholkn fell down, half-purposefully, half exhausted. With a now near air weight, Van launched his eight spikes t'wards Liam. Five diverted before they could've been seen (courtesy of the mist) and cleaved a line through the corners of the cube, skewering it into five pieces. The frontal piece wasn't much use, as it would be impossible to weight with a large, and still spreading hole. The other four surfaces, one at the bottom, two to the sides, and one top, were all skewered with the spikes. Three of them blocked Liam's escape options, the only way for him was forwards, towards where the gold held most of his weaponry in place.

The fourth platform, still grounded, had been sliding along the ground, dragged by the spike in its center. Even if Liam was to break the spikes, there would still be enough of them in the large, four by four walls to precipitate movement of the iron platforms. Ignoring what Liam was doing, Van Gholkn began to bring the three walls to follow the acrobat, and the fourth one to trip him up by rapidly skating it along the ground. The problem (or two) with this fine scheme was that Liam still had immediate control of one weapon, and would somehow regain control of the others temporarily, due to his profound reactive skills. Van, on the other hand, relied almost entirely upon instinct. The other three spikes, for example, were aimed: One for the head, one for each hand. If they didn't make it, they would simply stick in the back wall, and be redirected against him. Hopefully, the walls would fully solidify, otherwise Liam would be able to jump them. For the moment, they were roughly three and a half metres, with a thickening base, so that it would stand against being knocked over. Tribal honcho or no, it still didn't stop the mist from clouding the immediate effects, so he was really fighting in the dark.

Tyon's attack was deflected by a rising wall of earth. He wasn't surprised - hitting with the same kind of attack twice was already more than he expected, so he didn't think he'd manage to wound his enemy with this one. The enemy's geomancy was fast as usual, though in this case, it benefitted Tyon as well as the caster.

This isn't too bad. After all, a wall blocks his attacks as much as mine, as well as line of sight... and I've still got time and range on my side. Still, better make sure I win this one.

He cautiously edged sideways, trying to keep the wall between the enemy and himself so Feng didn't know where he was, moving slowly and silently closer to the room's wall so that his enemy couldn't flank from that side, drawing in obsidian as usual. He didn't have much to do other than that - the waiting game suited him just fine, allowing him to catch his breath back. He wasn't relaxed, however - he knew that the enemy still had his oddly fast geomancy, so he kept a close control over the incoming obsidian flow, body tensed to dodge at the smallest warning, visible or otherwise. He gazed at the wall warily, thinking of the many ways it could work in his favour... or against him.

Thinking over his strategy, he decided that it'd be more of a hindrance than of aid. He'd have to get rid of it - but he didn't want to break the stalemate so soon. The longer he waited before setting in motion, the better.

I'm not the one with arterial bleeding, after all.

Liam cursed himself inwardly. He had underestimated his opponent, and it had cost him. Now he was caught in between four walls of heated iron, with most of his weapons rendered useless for the time being. Not to mention, he had a gaping wound in his hip, which wouldn't be that bad if not for the fact it wouldn't heel in this accursed arena. Still, he had managed to deal some damage, and Van was now crumpled at the entrance wall, though still conscious. Not to mention, he still had some more surprises up his sleeve. Up his boots, to be more accurate.

Leaning down slightly, he stretched his left arm down, withdrawing an average steel throwing knife from his boot. A small groan escaped his lips as his hip injury sent more jolts of pain up his side. Coming up again, he bounced the knife on his palm, before casting it upwards in front of him. He swung the chain in his right hand around, sending the only free head in an arc over and behind him. At the end of its path, the head collided into the knife's butt end, sending it flying at an incredible speed towards Van's general direction. His attack wasn't aimed very well, due to the lack of control over the knife, but it was going in the general right direction, and with the speed the knife was going at, the slumping man would be hard-pressed to block.

Now, to deal with these pesky little iron walls. And even more spikes, Liam groaned inwardly as he saw the three stone shards heading his way. Didn't this man ever run out of his damned spikes! In his current situation, he really didn't have much choices; his paths back, left and right were blocked by the former iron walls, and there was another one skittering towards him on the floor to his front. Grabbing his other tangled meteor hammer with his left hand, he crouched low to the ground, prepared to jump. Slamming both fists into the ground, he sent himself hurtling through the air on an upwards arc. Hands held together ahead of him, arms and legs rigid as wood, he looked much the part of a large arrow soaring through the air. He rolled on his side mid-flight to avoid the three spikes aimed at him; the two aimed at his hands passing to the side, and the one aimed at his head passing over him, just grazing his left palm. At the height of his ascent, he snapped his torso and arms downwards, turning his forward motion into a midair roll that landed him about ten feet from his fat foe.

With his weakened state due to so much blood loss, his landing was not very graceful, with him staggering for several seconds before regaining his balance. The complex maneuver had also had a toll on his already degrading condition, for his hands trembled slightly and sweat was pouring down his face in sheets. He had left a long trail of red behind him, too, a monument to his now heavily aching injury. If this battle didn't end soon, Liam was unsure if he would be able to continue in his current battered state. His face showed no sign of this however, a grim, determined expression plastered onto it, unwavering through all the pain he went through.

"Heh, you'll have to do more than that to defeat me" Liam panted, staring at the other man with cold, piercing yellow eyes. With no more words, he pulled out his second knife with his right hand, wrapping the chain he previously held around his shoulder for later use. With a fluid, although somewhat jerky motion, he threw the knife forward, tip pointing straight at Van's heart. "It's been a pleasure to fight you.", he said in true earnest, the hint of a smile flickering on his sweat-covered face. With no more words to offer up, he followed his projectile, although at a slower pace, ready to deal the last blow. It was either now or never, and the outcome of these last actions would determine his fate. His life balanced on this precipice, ready to tip in any direction with the slightest breeze. But he would not lose, he had never lost. No, all his life's training and practice had all collected into a last stand, a final attempt at life. These thoughts gave him strength and courage, and he sped up, trembling no more, his wounds forgotten, to deal the final card.

The wall was enough protection for now. Luckily he had charged his geomancing a while before pulling up the wall, or he wouldn't have been able to protect himself. He wished he hadn't gotten the biggest coward of all the fighters he'd ever seen. Someone who runs away the whole time is more of a hindrance than anything. Luckily, Feng hadn't done much except for walk, so he wasn't the least bit tired. His opponent, on the other hand, had been running around very quickly and constantly using geomancing, he must be getting tired.

He almost felt as if his opponent was waiting for him to bleed out. What in the Earth Lord's realm was thsi guy thinking? That he was going to die of blood-loss in this small range of time...He thought not. It would take a shot to the jugular to kill someone that quickly. Feng turned his head and cracked his neck. His neck felt looser now, and that would be important in the time to come.
He wasn't going to bother running at his opponent, becuase he knew what was coming at him, more obsidian. The same plan everytime, it surely wouldn't work when Feng knew exactly was to come.

He waited behind the wall, keeping his muscles tensed, just in case Tyon came around one of the corners, he would be ready to pounce on him. Feng had a significant size advantage and could surely submit his victim onto the ground, and if worst came to worst; he could pound his face in with his hands until the frail man died from cerebral bleeding. It satisfied Feng to think about how such a thing might sound as the skull...He realized he must not get sidtracked in the bloodlust. He stood with sword drawn, waiting for his opponent to make a move.

Ed was getting irritated with this nuisance. The pixie had been a worthy opponent, but this man displayed all of the combat prowess of a drunkard. True, he had managed to throw himself forward in a desperate gambit to avoid the hammer, but that had been pure instinct for self preservation, rather than a planned escape. This newcomer had turned, moved to place himself between the Irregular and the wall as the hammer was brought back to the ready, and had followed up his previous brazen attack with a second head-on rush. This time the blade had been brought up in an overhead swing, a maneuver that did nothing to impress.

At least the pixie had fought intelligently, wreathed in her flames and trying to make use of decoys and distractions in order to best him. This man charged in from the front, using brute force against him instead of using his head. A head-on charge with his blade held high above his noggin gave the hammer-wielding warrior ample time to dodge. Ed moved backwards several steps, checking the mirrors behind his attacker to make sure there was nothing laying in ambush in the direction that they were headed.

As Ed moved back, the pommel came down, or rather up, in an awkward attempt to disorient him. Na'-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Jim-But-Bigger-Than-Wee-Jim Jim towered over the swordsman, making a direct hit highly unlikely to begin with given the awkward angle, and by stepping backwards he managed to avoid it altogether. He kept his backward movement, and stepped slightly to the right, out of range as the bastard sword came up again and down in a powerful slash.

Ed was aware of the fiery little fury maneuvering around, gathering her flames and building them into some imminent attack of untold rage towards the man who had interrupted their duel. He had also noticed the flames being drawn to the man, and how he seemed completely unconcerned by them. Either he was more of a fool than he had at first thought, or this one had a means of neutralizing them. The frigid temperature had dissipated, warming quickly to almost uncomfortable degrees as Ember blazed like a small sun. Ed was lucky the the haft of his weapon was thickly bound in leather, or else he'd have quite the uncomfortable time holding on to it. The heat would soon affect the hammer if he wasn't careful. He would need to finish this before it became too hot, otherwise he would have to abandon it.

Sweat beginning to pour in rivulets down his back and chest, Na'-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Jim-But-Bigger-Than-Wee-Jim Jim decided that two could play the same game. This cold-blasting bugger had thought to hit him with such an obvious stroke of his sword. He didn't seem to understand that overhead strikes take too long to prepare, expose the body too much, and are too slow to hit fast moving, relatively unwounded opponents. They're best used when the enemy is currently distracted, incapacitated, or committed to their own attack.

Much like the swordsman was at that moment, in fact.

With his slash coming down, and Ed standing off to one side and out of the sword's reach, he brought his own hammer down from the shoulder towards the man's back. His superior reach allowed him the chance to strike despite being outside of his foe's range, and the armored warrior's momentum from the swing would make it highly difficult to avoid the maul.

The Jim put all of his might into this blow, unlike his previous attacks against the sprite. Then he had held back, not wanting to waste his strength against an opponent who would have likely been instantly killed by a halfhearted blow from such a massive weapon. Even if, by some miracle, the attack missed, the maul had enough concussive force imparted to it that it would create a massive shockwave.

Unlike the previous wave that he had sent out by simply swinging through the air, this one would be the result of the impact with the stone floor, or his opponent's broken carcass. Either way, the blast was powerful enough to send even Big Jim tumbling back onto his posterior, and would roll outward in an expanding circle around its epicenter. Ember would likely be caught in it, and it was possible it would reach some of the other competitors in the arena, although by then it should have dissipated enough to be nothing more than a strong wind, blowing dust and debris across the arena.

“Allow me t'introduce you to th' Hammer o' Hephaestus, lass!” he cried out mockingly as the giant head swung down with enough force to demolish anything caught beneath it.

He was ignoring her. Such folly would not go unpunished, that was for sure! But something else was strange. Her fire was being drawn slightly towards him, as if he called to it... Or perhaps, it granted him some measure of power. Well... that was fine. No matter what he tried, he would not quench the flames without water, and if it granted him some kind of energy, she could always overload him. She certainly wouldn't find herself short of fire anytime soon. So long as her master drew breath, she would have access to his power. That, certainly, was nothing to be ignored, and she would not leave without teaching the intruder this lesson.

But first! She needed fire. Lots, and lots, and lots of fire! Since she was being ignored, already the inferno which surrounded her made the blaze she'd tried to use against the hammerman earlier seem like child's play. This was a flame which rivaled the breath of some lesser dragons, truly a force to be reckoned with. Served the intruder right, she figured; he'd burst in on her duel, and then proceeded to ignore her! This was absolutely, totally, completely and entirely unforgivable!

Pop! Really, it was more of an obscenely loud boom than a pop, but where Ember was, and with the sound of the flame engulfing her form, burning up considerable amounts of air, the obscenely loud boom from the blood Liam boiled elsewhere in the arena was reduced to more of a pop to the miniature warrior's ears. Which, to her, meant it was likely not something to be overly worried about, and so it was paid little mind. The attention it was given, however, was enough to distract her temporarily, so that when she actually looked (through a slightly parted flame) to see what was going on around her, she found Na'-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Jim-But-Bigger-Than-Wee-Jim Jim sliding easily out of the way of the intruder's attack.

Now was the time to... Wait. The brute's hammer was moving, but this strike looked a lot more powerful than anything he'd used against her. That meant... No! Her flame would be wasted! Not again, no, this time she was ready, she could prepare before the shockwave ripped through. She didn't want to be sent away from the battle again, though... The mirror walls!

Taking no time to think, she moved, and a high-pitched hum filled the air as the fire around her swiftly shrank, condensing even as the fairy flew. The hammer went down, and Ember skirted just above it, expending considerable concentration simply on keeping herself steady while she packed her inferno into a package tinier than she was. As she stopped on the other side of the warriors, her flame appeared entirely to have vanished. What remained was a radiant orb which was totally solid in appearance, like a tiny ball painted with the eery glow of blue fire. This she held in both hands, protected by her own magic so that the shockwave she expected would not shatter it.

The hammer-wielding warrior's assault would be painful, taxing on her small body... but the lethal power she held in her hands would be well worth it.

Slugger cursed, the first word he had spoken since entering the Arena. Though he was testing his opponent's capabilities - wondering whether his abilities against both him and the fairly were one-offs or consistent - he didn't want them to be tested by him having to avoid getting his spine broken in half.

He didn't have much choice but to place his weight behind the blow; attempting to fight back against his armour and magically-enhanced muscles putting force behind the strike would leave him far worse off than the position he was in now. He was also keenly aware that the fairy's heat was beginning to overpower him; spots began to form on the outline of his eyes, threatening to herald a loss of consciousness from simple overheating.

Slugger dropped his sword before it hit the ground, letting it clatter to the stone floor as he pushed his weight to his knees - and a more defensive position. As it clattered to the ground, the metal vibrating harmlessly, Slugger closed his eyes (though given the cowl covering them, that would be difficult to tell), gently crossing both arms about his back. Time seemed to slow down (but, obviously, didn't - what is this, a Christopher Paolini novel?) as a drop of sweat gently fell to the ground and...shattered?

A pained grunt escaped Slugger, as the sweat covering his face froze, and was swiftly followed by a block of ice about either arm. The ice spread, as ice is wont to do, and formed an iceberg-shaped...shape that became several feet thick by the time the hammer struck it. Instead of cracking Slugger's spine, the blow struck the ice. The shockwave struck through, fracturing the ice and causing great chunks to scatter about him, but the 'berg had served its purpose in protecting him from the worst of it. That, of course, didn't stop him screaming as the remnants of the wave pushed him powerfully into the ground, driving the breath from him and shattering the frost covering his face.

His first breath drew dust in, prompting a muted cough as the knight grasped again for his sword. Two trails of blood, too shallow to be the product of a serious wound, meandered down from his nostrils, joining the pieces of ice on the ground as he slowly pushed himself to his feet, the armour that was, normally, slightly too heavy for him to carry proving...slightly too heavy to carry. The effort was obvious as Slugger pulled his blade in front of his waist, blade pointing upward - the ice barrier had taken a lot out of him. A gentle, steady growl escaped the cowl as he gently meandered closer to Ed - the closer he got, after all, the less likely a blow similar to the one which almost killed him would be.

Unwilling to commit himself to a swing until he had siphoned back some of the energy expended for the ice littered about the impact site which was slowly beginning to melt, Slugger instead decided to wait. Eerily still, he tensed up and waited for whatever would come at him next.

Tyon's smile creeped on his face as he reached the position he'd been looking for without his enemy moving from where he stood. His oblivious enemy would soon realize that whoever controlled the pace of the fight, whoever was on the offensive, had a major advantage. That was why Tyon had attacked first, and that's why he'd kept out of reach from his enemy's weapons. That was also the reason he'd moved closer to the mirror walls - to get an appropiate reflection angle, with which he could hit his enemy, hiding behind that little wall, without having to even look at him. The movement had also made him creep closer than he wanted to his enemy's defense, but since Feng hadn't taken a single step outside of the barrier's shadow, there was nothing he could do by now to avoid what was coming his way.

Of course, the plan relied heavily on his enemy not having vanished into thin air or something like that, but thankfully it seemed like he was still there. Tyon aimed carefully at the magic mirror - he didn't have any experience with rebound shots, but the fact that the walls were mirrors made it simple to target his enemy even without that kind of training. He wondered if his enemy would realize what was happening before he managed to make his attack succeed, and for an instant pondered what he could do to reduce his enemy's chances.

He realized there wasn't really anything he could do about that by now so, with a mental shrug, he turned swiftly, amplifying the needle's power as he'd done previously - a swift turn, a punch to the air and the needle was flying from his arm to the wall to his left. A fraction of a second before the shot's kickback made him turn to his original position, he realized that to the spectators it'd probably seem as if he'd just shot them, and his grin widened slightly as physics worked their part.

He slowed down the circular movement with his feet until he was looking once more at his foe's stony defense in a complete standstill, then sprinted at it, his intention still unclear even in his own mind. Maybe he'd jump over the wall, maybe he'd lurk behind it and wait for his enemy to become impatient, or maybe he'd just run to the other side and attack. He couldn't plan that far ahead without knowing whether he'd managed to wound Feng once more.

With the Sparks released, Jonothan spun on his heel and fixed his gaze on the mirrored walls. Well, okay, not really 'fixed', since his eyes were flitting from one corner to another. He knew the options his opponent had. Running forward was a surefire way to get shocked. Running backward would only buy him a little time. So the human had to run to the side if he wanted to escape completely. Jon knew that. He was counting on it.

So it was that he caught a glimpse of reflection in the mirrors nearest the door. The human had emerged from the darkness. What he was doing, Jon didn't care. He turned, crouched, and sprang forward in a four-limbed dash, the kind he used to cover ground quickly. The human rounded the pillar, one hand outstretched, sword held high and screaming his lungs out. As the two charged towards each other, options ran through Jon's head. He had no charge established, so a spell was out. The sword was held high up, so leaping for his face was out. So, he took a third option. As the two came near each other, he set his weight on his hands...

And aimed a donkey-kick right where his legs met his body.

When you're half your opponent's size, you aim for the most vulnerable spot you can reach.

The sudden appearance of a mound of thick ice encasing his foe had surprised Ed, but he knew that unless it was as strong as steel it wouldn't stop his hammer. Still, it did a good job of cutting down on the power of the blow as it shattered the iceberg. The head of the hammer smashed through, slamming the warrior to the ground in an explosion of icy shards. The shockwave from the impact spread with fearsome intensity, blowing jagged pieces of ice across the arena in a rain of deadly shrapnel. Bits and pieces caromed off of the enchanted mirrors, flying about in all directions.

Stepping back to observe his handiwork, The Jim was not surprised to see the man beginning to stir. That had been a substantial amount of magical ice, and it had likely cut the damage by more than half. Still, it had effectively shaken the swordsman to the core, and left him reeling upon the stone floor to boot.

Na'-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Jim-But-Bigger-Than-Wee-Jim Jim moved back as the dazed knight stumbled to his feet, picking up his sword in a manner that suggested he was too weak to wield it properly. Had the shield he had summoned taken that great of a toll from the man? Shaking his head, Ed discarded that train of thought. Whether it was true or simply a ruse to lure him into a false sense of security, the Irregular knew that it would be best to assume that this fighter was just as strong as he had been in the beginning. No sense in getting caught with his pants down (which had actually happened once during a training session with his sister Sophia).

It was at this point that he noticed the little flitter bug hovering on the other side of the man, a brightly glowing orb of pure destruction between her tiny hands. He was pleased that she had managed to weather the storm of his most recent attack, and was impressed by the power she had managed to summon. It was a shame that it was not really intended for him; he would have enjoyed facing off against something so devastating.

As he looked at the miniature sun, a sudden epiphany struck the mauler. This man between them had interrupted their duel, after all, so it was only fair that they work together to eliminate the distraction. Besides, he didn't want to have ALL the fun.

Slinging the massive hammer up onto his shoulder once more, The Jim grinned. He reached into his pocket with one hand, pulling out the sterling silver flask, and expertly popped the cap on it with his thumb. Bringing it to his lips, he took a deep swig of the vile concoction within. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he grinned wider at the hapless opponent that stood before him.

“Fightin's thirsty work, lass. I'd offer you a drink, but I dinnae think you could handle it. Although, I'm sure my wee friend there would like to try another round,” Ed winked largely to the sprite as he lifted the flask in her direction.

Then, with a disarming casualness, he tossed the flask in a graceful arc towards the pixie that would bring it right above the swordsman's head. As it spun through the air, some of the clear liquid spilled out of the mouth of the hip flask, leaving a glistening thread that, if one were to use a little imagination, slightly resembled a cannon fuse.....

Feng lurched forward as the heard the clang, assuming it was a strike at him he threw he arm up in defense of a physical attack of some sorts. Not exactly the best idea. As his arm shot up to protect his face he felt a dull pain in his shoulder. He looked down at the serpentine shoulderpad in awe. The shard of obsidian had bounced off the mirror and into his shoulder. Luckily, his large shoulder pad protected him from alot of the damage and he got nothing more than a mild scratch. He ripped the shard out once again, this time no blood spurt, just a dull trickle inside of his armor.

Nothing to be worried about. Feng made a quick leap and caught the top of the wall and heaved himself to the top of it. There he spotted Tyon, and now, it was in Feng's element. Tyon was sprinting at the wall he had created, and fast. Feng leapt down in front of Tyon and swung his broadsword straight at Tyon from above, using both his immense strength and his falling speed to attempt to land a crushing blow to anywhere on Tyon. A hit at this speed would cause devastating damage to Tyon, no matter where it hit.

Liam let go of the chain in his left hand, letting the last head fall down over his shoulders to join the others. Lifting both hands up to his shoulders, he grabbed each chain at the center with his fists, so that both halves were enclosed by his fingers. As he neared his opponent, he began to lift both hands, pulling the entangled heads up in a triangular formation, the chains meting each other over his head. Where before the gold entangling them rendered them nearly useless, now it served him well, bringing most of the heads into one centralized location where they would be able to do more damage at once.

The air stirred around him stirred slightly, lifting the layers of sand that had gathered on the arena floor into small swaying clouds around his boots, and tousling his fiery hair. Something cold grazed his left cheek, leaving a jagged scratch behind and numbing the skin around it. He ignored this however, attributing it to the remnant of some spell another contestant had cast. In the mirror in front of him, he saw more minuscule pieces of what seemed like ice flying through the air. He quickly returned his focus to the man sitting ahead, Van, increasing his sprinting into a full run as a wave of determination washed over him. Reaching within striking distance, his arms finished their upwards arc and swung downwards, the momentum of his run behind them, sending the four tangled heads crashing towards Van's head. He was determined to come out of this the victor, no matter what.

Ice. A great big chunk of it formed around the intruder, and without her usual cloak of fire she could feel the chill as the air swirled around it and returned to her, causing her to shiver slightly in place. Being a creature of fire, the little sprite wasn't much for cold temperatures. Really, that was part of the reason she normally wore that cloak of flames! But now all of her power was set into this one little spot, this miniature ball of fiery death which she would soon unleash upon her foe.

Just as soon as she steadied herself again, that is. The hammer struck ice, which served to soften the blow but, to a little flying creature such as Ember, the wind from the blow was still impressive—not only that, but now there were shards of ice flying around the arena! So in the midst of being blown about by a wind greater than the one which had ejected her from the duel in the first place, she had to swoop this way and that to weave through the shards of ice which threatened to rip her into pieces. Fortunately, she'd been prepared this time, and that meant not bouncing off the wall (thanks in part to that block of ice, actually!) again.

Now it seemed things were drawing to a close, at least for this intruder. Well, that was her hope anyways. Just because he was moving sluggish now didn't mean he had no more fight left in him. That would be a foolish mistake, and one Ember simply refused to make! Kind of like the foolish mistake the ice-warrior was making now, in that he was still ignoring her! Really, he was just asking for trouble, allowing her to build up her power like that. Why, she could have gathered enough flame to destroy the entire arena, she thought, if she'd had the patience!

Na'-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Jim-But-Bigger-Than-Wee-Jim Jim spoke, now, and Ember grinned. Normally, such an underhanded tactic was beneath her. But she'd already been wronged by the ice man, and now honor dictated she deal with him, however necessary, and accepting help from her previous opponent was not out of the question. Of course, the brute would likely be caught in the blast, but she'd already challenged him, and so there was no dishonor in the method she was about to employ to bring a painful, burning death to the man who'd so foolishly interrupted their fight.

Up in the air went the flask... And at the same time, Ember tossed her glowing ball of fiery doom. The two arced through the air, destined to meet at a point just above Slugger's head... And then Ember realized something. That was his drink. The drink which had reacted with her to make her launch a fireball.... by accident. Now, she'd just thrown a shimmering orb whose power alone was destructive enough that the little fairy would not want to be too close... right at the flask. “Oh noooo!” She squealed, turned, and made to dash away through the air, just as the orb touched the glistening trail and detonated.

There really wasn't a good way to describe the sound made by the explosion, except to say that for all of a second, there was none. As soon as the ball touched the Slag, it detonated with the force of a hurricane. And when the fire reached the inside of the flask, suddenly the hurricane carried with it a flaming liquid that burned white-hot, threatening to sear away at anything it touched in an instant. It was about that time that a deafening boom resounded throughout the arena, sure to leave many ears ringing for a good while to come.

The flames ripped through the air in a wave large enough to engulf the three warriors and the whole area of the arena they occupied. The burning Slag went even further, its weight carrying it throughout the arena to bounce off the mirrors and fly about much like the icicles had from Na'-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Jim-But-Bigger-Than-Wee-Jim Jim's shockwave—except these were burning liquids, and to be hit would mean instant ignition and hellish burns.

From the explosion flew the fairy, unharmed only by virtue of her flame-resistant body. Several little balls of burning Slag trailed behind her as the force of the explosion launched her across the room and into one of the mirror walls. She bounced off, and the mirror's magic sent her reeling just left of the burning trails of Slag so that she could feel the intense heat off of them, at a level which was uncomfortable even for her. Fluttering her wings to try and regain control, all she could manage was to stop her momentum, sending her spiraling to the ground clear across the arena from the hammer-warrior and the ice-man.

She landed on hands and knees, panting for air and for a few moments, she couldn't get the strength to look up and see just what damage her reckless assault had wrought.

Eternal Wanderer

Suddenly, out of the blue, or whatever the dominant color was at the time, multi-coloured sprites appeared, hovering down at rapid speeds to choice contestants. The swarm wiggled and writhed onto them, seeking entrance into the contestants through their ears, mouths, nostrils, and making the fighters emit a glow most spectacular from their eyes, ears, mouths, and even noses...

Their bodies grew transparent, the strange lights taking over everything, making them impossible to see, the light (the contestants?) rose up slowly, finally exploding into a gazillion of little marvelous pieces.

The Lords had made their pick, their chosen champions would proceed to fight the Final Battle of the Tournament...
