This is a story of how the young Zadd became a golemancer .
Chapter I : “Awful Childhood”
Zadd was born into the Northlands , in the small town of Snowmoor , to Tadd the Green Mage . He was always a more villain type . While his friends and parents were all heroes , he was perfecting his creations – golems.
Zadd was born with the ability of creating these kinds of creatures . He discovered his ability upon touching a snowball : it gave it life , and begun to talk . From that day , the junior golemancer knew of his capability to bring to life inanimated objects .
As every child , Zadd wanted to impress his friends with his capabilities . He was always telling that he could give snowman life and make it walk . But his friends never believed them , but Zadd assured them that his tale was true .
One day , the young Zadd couldn’t resist the disbelief of his friends . He told them to meet him at the Snow Path in the evening , and that he would make a snowman come to life . His friends came to where Zadd told them to go , and met the junior golemancer there . Zadd focused all his powers to animate the snowman , and he was almost to the point of bringing him to life , when ...... it collapsed !
His friends laughed at him , and said that he can’t bring his snowmen to life : he can only destroy them . So , instead of Zadd being called “golemancer” , he was called “golemcancer” . This enraged Zadd , and made him wish revenge upon them .
But how could he achieve his vengeance ? His parents were heroes , saviours of Lore , and he knew no villain to help him . Also , his unability to bring the snowman to life made him to question his powers , so this made him try again .
The next day , he went to an ice cave , where he found the perfect environment to use his magic . He again focused all his powers , and the ice begun to move . Imaginating the perfect pet , he created ...... an ice dog golem ! Know he had his golem , and he could prove his friends wrong . He went to his pal’s houses , and left his doggie into the middle of the town , to call his friends see it . He called all his buddies to see his creation, but since he had been too far from his golem , his unstable magic fainted and his icy pet .... broke .
His friends laughed at him again , and said that he does a very poor job in bringing inanimated objects to life – he just breaks them . This enraged Zadd a lot , and made him to think thoughts that no infant should think of.
For the following years , Zadd was trying to perfect his creations , and made them more stable . But he never had the chance of showing his friends his mastery of golemancy . Either the golem collapsed before Zadd could show it to them , either it broke just before their eyes . Zadd was disturbed by his own inability to bring things to life for a longer period of time , and realised that his golems need a source of power – something that would increase the durability of his creations .
Since Frostval was approaching , he thought of using something caracteristic to the holidays . But what powers could be hidden in a turkey , a christmas tree , or a left sock ? Zadd knew he had to do what a child must never do : he had to take something from his father . But how could he take something from Tadd’s laboratory without him noticing that ?He was never left home alone , and there wasn’t a day when he was left with a nurse . He had to think of something clever .
Fortunately , Zadd was clever . He knew that his father had some pressing business at the Magical Academy of Blizzcrest . All he had to do was to lure him there . It wasn’t too hard falsify a writing that didn’t even existed , since Tadd never received a letter from the academy’s headmaster – he was contacted through his magical globe . So he made a letter addressing to his father , informing him that he must go to the academy at once .
After Zadd wrote the letter , he went outside , and pretended to go to play so that his parents won’t suspect anything , stood there a few minutes and pushed the letter through the door . Then he pretended to have just returned from a snowball fight with his friends , and put some snow on his cloths . He grabbed the letter , pretending to have just seen it , and gave it to his father .
“Urgent jobs at the Academy of Blizzcrest ?” His father , surprised after he read the letter . “Just 3 days ago , they were just fine . Well , I can’t go anyway . Frostval is approaching , and .....”
“Dad , come on !” Zadd disagreed his parent . “They didn’t just call for help , they implored you to go as an expert in sorcery . I’ll be just fine , daddy . I have mommy !”
Since Zadd played his role very well , his father actually believed him . He took his horse , and went to the Magical Academy of Blizzcrest .
“Untill he’ll be back , I’ll have an army of golems !” Zadd throught
But there was another factor which stopped him from entering Tadd’s laboratory : his mother ! How could he make his golems with her around ? Well , since he tricked his father , foolishing his mother would be a piece of cake . He made another letter addressed to her , from the town of Freezefall , asking for help due to an attack of an ice dragon . Doing the same thing that he did with his father , he was able to trick his mother , and his wish was finally fulfilled : he got a nurse !
And that nurse , well ..... she never did her job well . Zadd just tricked her into getting into the broom storage , telling her that some of the brooms of the greatest witches were kept there , and locked her there ! Finally , Zadd could unleash the villain from him . First , he did what his initial plan was : go to his father’s lab and get some cool stuff to power his golems .
His father’s laboratory was fill with magical objects : crystal globes , wizard hats , medalions and amulets , staffs and wands , and the most interesting thing that he noticed : elemental button noses ! He thought that those were the perfect boost to the durability of his creations .
He took some of them , and begun building snowmen . He built like 6 of those , and instead of coal , he put the elemental button noses as their eyes . Then , he brought the snowmen to life , and they begun to walk around.
Zadd was very pleased , but he wasn’t sure about one thing : what to do with the snow golems ? Well , his parents were gone , his nurse was locked , so ..... he could be a bad boy ! He had some golems to follow his orders , so it was time to get his revenge .
He went to his pals , and told them to quickly came at his house , because something amazing is happening . They followed him , and as they entered , they didn’t react quite as Zadd expected . Instead of being surprised or afraid , they laughed ! But why did they do that ?
As Zadd took a better look , he realised that his snow golems just melted ! The elemental button noses couldn’t boost their durability enough . Then , to make matters worse , Zadd’s parents came ! They were very angry at the junior golemancer , since they realised that Zadd tricked them , when they were informed that nothing was happening to where Zadd’s letters told them to go .
And after they saw the mess that Zadd’s golems created , and that their son masterminded their departure , not to mention the fact that he locked his nurse into the broom storage , they best thing they could feel was disappointment .
Zadd was ashamed , and not only because his parents found out what had he done : he regretted because his golems broke and he did a poor job in building them , because his friends laughed at him , because his parents will never let Zadd be nurtured again , and because elemental button noses aren’t quite fit to power golems. And the worst part was that ..... he would be grounded !
In the rest of Zadd’s childhood , the young golemancer was always shadowed by his friends – which were all heroes , and by his parents – which were known into the whole Northlands . Zadd made many attempts to create his golems , but he always failed to create golems which could actually resist .
Zadd’s failures continued until he got approved to the Magical Academy of Blizzcrest , the first place following his attempt to use as an energy source the elemental button noses where he actually had another chance to create a golem which would resist ……
