No. Giving badges for posts will only make the forumites post spam and even double/triple post.

And why should you receive a badge for having friends? I only have AKs and Mods in my Adress Book - for quick PMing. So I say no to this too.

More than a Game

Posts on this forum are more about the quality. Not quantity. If such feature were implemented, then surely, the spam count would go up due to people wanting to earn the badges, making the job for AKs harder. It would be much simpler if this were kept like itis now.

As to the friends part, I'm not sure how that would work... People could just sit on their computer and add every single member on the contact list and consider them friends. It is't that hard, and I don't think forum users should receive a reward for doing that.

We don't reward users for post count in any way because this leads to people making a lot of spammy/unnecessary posts in order to raise their post count.

We reward users with titles such as Helpful and Friendly when we feel they've earned it (as outlined in the forum ranks, groups, titles thread), that's about as close to a badge system as we'll get. An automated system, especially one based on something like post count that doesn't reflect the behavior and attitude of the user, is prone to abuse and doesn't do a good job of rewarding users who truly deserve to be rewarded.

indeed i see through your perspective...it is in a way difficult to feel accomplished all the time...so why not become known?known by your fellow colleges and gamers(game freaks) but as debatable yugi was saying Giving badges for posts will only make the forumites post spam and even double/triple post. indeed that is also true but! there r so few that post....

I've had experiences with outside of ae boards that used the post count system.

And let me tell you, it was a real big headache and a half!

It caused such a terrible disruption of the forums that it ended up having to be removed completely.

Same here. Even worse, the forum I visited offered virtual currency (spendable in a shop for virtual battle gear) for posting, so there were tons of posting-for-money threads. *shudders*

That said, I don't like this idea.

I've been on several forums with systems like this, and on neither of them behavior like this have been a problem.
It depends on two things: 1, how well the mods handle it. 2, how weel the forumites handle it.
Personally I don't think a system like this would lead to a utter spam mayhem.

Nonetheless, I'm against it, because it's feels pointless and I can't see a way how it would add something/benefit the forums. It would just... be there.
If we're supposed to have badges then maybe it would be better to have badges related to something that has nothing to do with posting?
Contest winner badges? Debate Club badges? Something you get from an actual accomplishment?

A perfect "badge" is the "Helpful!", "Friendly!", "Constructive!" titles as well as contest winner titles.

Basically, I think, for example, Acient's and Hallie's titles are as good as a badge. And even better since it gives you the bonus of uploading your own avatar.

See? We already have "badges" - we just have to look at them from outside the box, if you understand me. =p

^Yeah, I know. Personally I think what we have now is just great ^.^
But if we were to introduce badges (I wrote badgers first, where's my mind today? x.X) on the forums I think they'd have to like... be more meaningful than just being handed out for post-count.

Indeed. Some people measure worthiness by post count. I'd rather not encourage that kind of thinking.
