Hi all, it is Strebor, from the murky depths of the Role Players. N3344 suggested a thingo a couple of days back, and I too, would like to comment. We are at the very bottom of all forum topics. We don't get anything fancy, and most of the people who visit don't read the rules, and get discouraged and leave. We have a very small regular population, and a couple who hide out in the woodwork. In fact, I'd say there are less than 20 regulars.

So what I'd like, and I'm sure the rest of my fellow RPers too, is a title or a different spot on the boards. I mean, it is supposed to be alphabetised, however the Zardian is before us? Having titles would get more people interested in joining, as no-one can resist the irresistible allure of a title. I'm not asking for much, its a pretty hard process to be an RPer. Also, anyone who reads this, come have a look at our section.

RolePlayers DO get titles. Ever heard of an "Advanced RolePlayer" or of a "Tutor"?

Regardless, giving titles just for joining the RP Board will, as you said bring people to the RP Forums. But they will only come for the title. They wil lget it and then abandon the board.

That is why most people disagree with giving titles just for joining something.

Not even the Debate Club is that active. Out of the +90 people approved, only 10 or so are active. They other 80 joined just for a title probably. See?

I think another reason the RP section is so inactive, is because it requires so much effort. Take the Gallery for example, even after it was opened to everyone, it's not exactly effort, because it's effort to make stuff.

Also, titles are usually given out for doing things well or achieving something. Joining a board isn't exactly an achievement. With your logic, you should have a title for every board you go in.

Not the JRP board, the main RP board... I mean, L&L gets used to have poets and authors... The DC gets a title after you go through the application process. There is a process to become an RPer, not just joining. And you're right, it does take effort to write stuff up.

No-one commented on the different spot idea/Why is the Zardian before us? Also, the DC is alot smaller, and was disabled a while back.

Let me necropost this and restate Strebor's assertions.

The RP Boards is seperated into three sub-forums. First is the Role Playing Academy (RPA) ; 2nd is the normal Role Playing (RP); 3rd is the Advance Role Playing (ARP).
Now, RPA is open to all. Anyone can come and go. The 2nd section--RP is not open to all. It is locked to a select few who has showed skill in writing and thus promoted into this niche (there's a quality evaluation process that's probably not relevant). The ARP is the last niche. If you have showed superior quality in writing, you are promoted from RP into an Advanced RPer which includes the title and this board.

What Strebor is trying to say is the people that have been promoted into the 2nd section (the RP) should get a title for the various reasons he has stated. And for me they should. I mean, why not? These forumites have earned it by writing enough to be recognized as an RPer.

tl;dr: JRPers don't get titles, RPers should get titles because they worked for it; ARPers should remain their titles for the same reason.

I support this idea (being an RPer myself). And I also believe the idea is not to get more people here so they can have a title, it's to let more people SEE the RP Boards as we post. If they're browsing, say, the AQW Section, and I posted with a RolePlayer title, it would get the word around that our little corner in the forums exists.

I also agree that it is unfair we are at the very bottom of the page, even below the Zardian. I'd add more but I'm way too tired.

I agree, along with the point Timhortanz pointed out. It would certainly bring some attention to the forums, which could use a little bump. It just takes a little time to realize whether or not you like role-playing, but you can't select if you haven't even tried it, and most don't. Nor do they even take a look through the forum itself. That might be correct or incorrect, but an additional boost of people would be more than marvelous.

The RP forums are on the bottom, and I didn't even find out about them until I scrolled down to look at something else. I Think they should be bumped up above the Zardian and maybe given a little picture to attract attention. Because there are very little people in the Advenced RP forums, and there aren't any RPs going there I don't think. So, if there was a flood of people, maybe all 3 boards would get more threads and people in them.

I agree with the thread starter. I thought the same thing a while ago back when I tried. Sometimes, it would take me hours to make one post, so I decided to give up because it was too time consuming.

And being that it takes an application process to get there, I believe it would be safe to give them a title - just like the DC. In my opinion, RP is about 10x harder to do than Debate. The length of the introduction speech to get into the club is sometimes half the length of a single post in an RP. Since they do work that much harder, they atleast deserve a title in my opinion. Weather they get uploading priviliges is debatable, but I believe even the debate club would support them getting titles displaying their work. *It might even encourage more RPers to come to that board.*

I do think that RPers should be able to have their own titles on the so many different forums this site has to offer. If you ask me, RP titles should be a must.

No. No titles.

Advanced RPers get titles because they are Advanced, and it's a recognition of that. People in the Gallery, and those that are in the L&L section don't have titles unless they are good at what they do. Giving titles to RPers will have the same effect that it does on the Debate Club. People join just for the title, and then they don't do anything else.

Actually, most of those in L&L that have titles have them from years ago. We no longer give out titles for being in the forum or accomplishing something in-forum. We didn't even give titles when we have Approved Authors and Poets. We just had avvies, and not the upload privileges, the forum sanctioned avvies.

Very, very rarely will I give out a creative title. You have no idea what a writer must go through to prove worthy of that title.

So, I truly understand exactly why ARP people get titles.
