Personally I'm, with the "hating GG" group. Maybe its sportsmanship usually, but most of the opponents I fight use it when I'm around half health even if they're on their last legs, simply becuase they are so assured of their victory.
a few have said it more than five times in a row because they said it turns early, then I blocked a couple of times and took two or three hits without flinching. "GG" then isn't sportsmanship, its declaring a victory straight away before anything is certain at all. That is just another insult like "noob"


Plus it is frequently utterly meaningless because of the acts of the players themselves. The dialogue for a L33 guy I was up against a while ago went like this:

me: oh good a worthy opponent
him: ....
a few rounds later- (I'm now critical due to being hit by a strong crit)
him: hah hah Thats right heal nooby.
me: you know, statisticly just about everyone at your level uses heals.
him: I aint gonna need them. You should just quit now.

a few more turns
(I'm now at fifty percent health)
him: my win I reckon
me: not just yet
him: Dude your attacks are too weak to do anything. Your just wasting my time and yours.

a few rounds later he did in fact win:
him: gg noob.
(block)
him: GG!
(block. my attack puts him at 50%)
him GG!!
succeeds this time.


In this case (which I'm aware is pretty extreme) seems to happen a lot. Its more usually milder than this but it does happen. Here GG can not possibly show good sportsmanship because every other comment he made was about how pathetic his opponent (me) was and how this was a waste of time.

To be honest I'd even prefer no chat at all than people saying GG at the end of a list of insults and trying to assume that makes everything perfectly justifiable.

I never say it because frankly I've seen it overused too much, and mostly under these circumstances. If I think it was a good game, I simply compliment the opponent, who is the guy who made it good in the first place. so yeah I'm against GG

if i win without luck i say gg but if i won with alot of luck i just say gf or sometimes gg maybe next tome ;)

GG Is a classic saying and just because you have a problem with it doesn't mean everyone should stop :/ If you don't want to read it simply don't.

 Like I said before: I say gdf because gg means the whole game (including lag, bugs etc.) and gf means girlfriend. Gdf is perfect for good fight and I only say it when it's a fair battle without crit, block, or deflect. And sometimes when the opponent says it.

once you sayy gg your brain already know meaning. It is insult to say gg when your opponent doesn't say it. Because if was really gg game your opponent would say so to. its like saying noob to them.

i say gg out of habit and its better then something like "i pwned you noob" i always mean it in a polite way and its heck of alot better then bb
i know this is deep in the thread now but at the original poster, has it possibly occurred to you that when someone blocks, crits, stuns etc... that may be how they designed their build? to do that type of stuff, yea ppl get lucky sometimes, but saying gg when you win is a polite way of celebrating, and saying gg on a lose is a great way to not be a sore loser.

i dont always say gg because of the battle itself, sometimes you have a fun convo with someone, or you meet a friend or something like that, and i tend to not say "gg" if someone is bein a jerk or ranting about how i have founder armor etc...

bottom line gg is just good "gamership" if you will.

Mir, you post makes no sense. Even when I play 2v2 & I lose I normally say GF/GG & they don't reply. So that's like me calling them a Noob cause they didn't respond?

To everyone: GG means Good Game, no other meaning. If you think you've been insulted by someone saying GG to you if they had a lucky battle or not, it's a game, grow up. The people who say GG are the nice people, the people who don't reply are just so up them selfs. The game is based on luck, nearly every battle is a luck battle. You'd be lucky to get a battle without a crit/block/deflect. So, saying GG is a natural thing.

@LambO: I wish it was that simple. Most people I've played against are like my example; they hurl insults and try to cover it with "I said GG".

No offence, but they tend to say exactly the things you did (ie "I said GG, if you were insulted anyway then Grow up") the context is different, and odds are what your saying is true most of the time, but you can't just say its a universal truth, because that would make me a lie. And that I would take offense at.

And please note: the person who says GG has just won if they are being nice. this means the other guy can't chat at all, so can't reply. therefore a lot of people are "so up them selfs"

Basicly on average your exactly right. in absolute not even close.

Does it even matter? Now if someone say gg and then say something that is offensive, that is when it is annoying. Otherwise, gg means that you actually enjoyed the fight, especially when the match is real good.

And also, to those who do not reply, they may be the ones who just do not talk in the game at all. Think about that too. Also, they may wanted to talk but the match ends and would not allow you to chat back, making you leave to fight against another player.

i've said this once and i'll say it again "stupidity have no limits" and the people who say gg and use it wrong belongs in that category . you CAN'T tell if a person using it to be nice or to insult you,if you want to find out you have to ask them, oh wait you can't because they say it when battle's over, people aren't gonna waste time typing " gg in a nice way" or "gg i win you suk" , they would just say gg alone and you wouldn't know if it's good or bad, its better off not saying gg, you can't hurt someone if you don't say anything.

I say ''Bad game.'' If its against a varium. No way is it a good game. I only say Gg's to long, nonvarium vs nonvarium battles.

 I havd say gg only if they say that I am best kidding. GG to me like F4F it has no bad meaning but absolutely annoying.

 I now suggest a ground breaking change to gg or gf to make it less sarcastic! What if some absolutely insane person said "gg :)" instead of just "gg"? I am now going to end all my battles with a gf :)(if I have the time to type it before chat stops).

 Well you guys could just ask if ok to say gg gf if say yes ok then do it but if no just expect it don't say it out of respect.

Mir, why should someone ask if it's okay to say GG? GG Mir you're post is GG... really...

 Well only time they win is with critical and deflection and I don't find that gg or gf. I rather they ask if okay then say gg or gf.

I think gg is nice...It reminds me that I played well, even when I had no chance.
And it might play a factor in the wins against impossible odds I've had since I didn't give up.
But I don't generally say anything during battles, myself.

Look frankly Most (NOT all) of the fools I end up fighting say it in a way that can only be bad, and thats why I'm against. Other people use it in a good way, and thats why others are for. We can't stop people saying it either way, its their choice.

Lets just drop it.
