Sometimes when I edit a message it writes that I did, and sometimes not. Why is it?

Editing prior to the beginning of the next minute will cause the edit message not to show up. For example:

You posted at 13:47:08. If you edited at 13:47:59, there would be no edit message. If you edited at 13:48:02, there would be one.
