The portal looms in front on Morthos as he prepares to go to Paxia. The blue color of this gateway to the other dimension feels calming. "Mother, Father, you know I will miss you dearly," Says Morthos. "You don't have to go son, the portal opens up every year," Says his father. "But I do, There always must be one binder in the world. I'm the binder now, I must go." "Morthos," His mother says to him," Please don't leave me and your father!"His mother says to him pleadingly. "Mother, don't you understand? I have been training for this my whole life! I have been dreaming about this!" He says. "Morthos.....,"His mother says again," Don't leave," His mother begins to cry for her son. "Mother, I must, stop this right now," "Don't you talk to me like that Morthos!" His mother yells at him. Morthos walks towards the portal without looking back, and stops right in front of it," Remember me by this stone," He drops a small glossy red stone," Remember me always." "Goodbye son, promise you can come back." "I will return again someday, no matter what the circumstance." Says Morthos to his father. At least I hope I will be able to come back. Without another word, M walks away from his family and into the portal. Goodbye father, goodbye mother, may I see you again sometime. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ The inside of a portal is a curious place to be, especially when you are inside of one for the first time, as in the case of Morthos. There seems to be sky forever. It also seems that you are floating, but you are actually standing on the ground, with a picture of a tiny world underneath you. There are tons of wondrous bubbles that fill the night sky. Inside these bubbles are pictures of diffrent worlds that you could possibly go into if you know how. "Wow, look at this place. These orbs with pictures inside of them, what are they? Am I floating in the sky?" Morthos was speaking aloud, because in a portal, there is no concept of thinking in your head, there is only the idea of speaking aloud. Being inside of a portal, you get a strange feeling that you should be curious, so Morthos was being very curious indeed. Morthos shook his head," I must stay on track, I must go to Paxia." "Then to Paxia you must go,"Says a voice that seems like it is coming from everywhere, but nowhere at the same time.,"I'll send the bubble to you." "Thanks," Morthos says," Thanks a lot." The bubble was moving slower than an iceberg, and Morthos knows how slow that is, for his element is ice. The bubble eventually reached M, but when it did, he was facing the other way. When you go through a portal, the motion sickness that can occur is horrible, but Morthos was going through one backwards. Luckily Morthos had a strong stomach. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Where Morthos was going to land was a nice lush meadow, full of soft grasses and colorful flowers. However, M's fall was not soft. He fell from the sky and landed on his left arm. Dang. I just get to Paxia and what do I get, a hurt arm, not a very warm welcome is it? The meadow is in the shape of a bowl, with a small hill going around the edge. There is also a stream on the east mountains. Well, I now have to go see a healer to get my arm fixed up. So much for doing my job as a binder. Morthos makes a very thin durable ice chain appear and wraps it around his arm, like a sling. Water, I can hear Water. Civilization lies where there is fresh water. I'll go downstream until I can find a healer to make my arm better. Morthos headed downstream, so he could get his arm fixed up and he could start being a binder and save the world from monsters. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ After about an hour wandering downstream, M came upon a small village, one with only as much as they needed to survive, luckily they needed a healer. Morthos headed into town, but looking as he did, he scared most of the people living there. One person who was brave came up to him. "What do you want with our little village?"Says the Stocky man. "I only want to see the doctor, My arm is hurt, see, that's all I need, and some medicine to take with me." "I guess that would be ok, but let me ask the doc first." The big man wanders off into a alley for quite some time, then comes back with the doctor,"Here's the man I told you about doc, what do you think?" "I'll help hims, but he'll have to do something for me in return," The doctor says to Morthos. "And what'll that be....Doc?" "Oh, just to get rids of a certain monster in the forest." "Sure, I'll do it, now fix my arm."Morthos tells the man called Doc. Morthos follows the Healer to his hut back in the alley. I hope this will be quick so that I can get going...... The hut is bigger on the inside that it is on the outside. "Get over here so that Ies can get a look at that arm of yours, and take off that thing you have around it." Morthos does as he is told. "Ok, what happened to you?" "I fell," Morthos says. "Well lets see what I can do for you." The doctor takes out a wand, a little twig looking thing, and waves it over M's arm,"Try that out." Morthos moves his arm up and down, left and right, and in a circle. It's fine! "What did you do?" "All I did was cast a simple spell of healing, not much." "Well I'll be off then," Morthos tells the doctor. "Not so fast, remember our little deal? I help yous and yous help mes." "Right." Morthos follows the Doctor to the forest on the west side of town. There is a cave on the side of the mountain there, and a sound can be heard coming from inside. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ The cave is very daunting. No light can be seen from the inside, and light cannot pierce the inky blackness of the cave. Morthos must keep his promise though, so he ventures inside. Fire bear, come to me! M's spell works out, and His fire bear appears to his left, lighting only a small area. "Good luck, red one, you'll need it." Moving deeper into the cave, Morthos starts to hear a loud snoring. Who or what is making that terrible sound M soon found out. It was a Gigantic bear, and Morthos the Binder had just entered it's domain. The bear opens it's eyes and they glow a sickly yellow. It opens it's great maw, and lets out a growl that would scare any normal living creature, but it didn't scare the binder. Morthos charged forward and drew his sickles and the same time, the bear ran at him. The bear was the first to throw a strike, swinging with it's two thick arms trying to harm Morthos or the fiery bear. M dodged the strike rolling into a corner. Next he ordered Reliquen, His bear to breathe fire on the gigantic beast some might dare to call a bear. This the bear could not move out of the way of, for the size of the cave did not allow. The bears outer fur caught on fire. The beastly bear immediately dropped to the ground and started to claw out with all it's limbs. The fire started burning more rapidly, and the bear started to cry out in pain. Feeling sorry for the bear, Morthos closed his eyes and immediately froze the bear. The fire stopped and since this bear was already struggling, it died."Now you will not suffer poor bear. A quick death I have bestowed on you, and you are lucky for that. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Morthos walked out of the cave silently. He felt sorry that a living creature like the bear had to die, but it had to be done, or the healer could have made his arm lame again, just as he had fixed it. "Well is that beast dead?" Doc said. "Yes, it is done." And with that Morthos the Binder walked off into the sunset. Now my journey truly begins.
