what about alowing people to register 5 (?) names for them to change to, but that other's can't (like it would be if you changed name 5 times, then change back)?

 Basicball- once you've changed your name to something, nobody can take that name anyway. Like if I changed the name for my "Cinderella" character to "Pinkimina Dian Pie", nobody would be able to have the name "Pinkimina Dian Pie". They couldn't change their name to "Pinkimina Dian Pie", or make a new character named "Pinkimina Dian Pie", even after I change my name back to "Cinderella"

@Cindy: i know, let me re-write my proposal:

situation 1:

You're making a new acc, so you have to enter a name.
but the system also asks for some more names (4?).
Those names are now registered to your account as well, thus, making sure no1 can abuse them


Situation 2:

You already have an acc,
in this case, Titan and Hudelf (T&H in ALL my future posts and uses ^.^) would have to code a pop-up to apear on your next login.
this pop-up would have several (4?) fields, where you can enter a name,
those names would then be registered to your acc, thus, making sure no1 can abuse them


to sav bandwith or serverr space or whatever it is, you could merge situation 1&2, and make it 'a pop-up shows afteer you played on your char for 48(?) or moree hours'

 @Basicball- I appreciate the idea, but that still opens up possibility for abuse. If you think name squatters are bad now, everyone getting up to 25 names per master account (and if you're like me and have multiple master accounts, that opens up the potential for abuse even higher. And that doesn't even prevent people from naming themselves something similar to you.

Unless you'd prefer something like what we do with Pony vs. Pony, where you don't have a unique name, just a code.

scamming

ok, so, let's see what i came up with ...

codes would work, but what would you do with current names? also, you would be more easely confued with who's who, thus opening more scamming possibilities
char pages: they should show the other names registered by that person as well, and the other name's charpage should be linked to the current char page

so let's say i have the names: Basicball and Vadro (through name change),
my name is now basicball, so my char page ends in basicball
vadro should be listed on that char page as well under 'other names', and if i remove basicball from the original link, and type vadro there, i should get to the exact same page

right, what else...

we should be able to report impersonators, and there should be a broad team lookinginto the in-game reports to see if they're valid. if they are, those people should gt there name removed,
and when they log in next time, a name change window should open (to type a new name)

i think i filtered out all semi-good ideas and above from my random brainstorm

just to clarify things... here's what happened to me

1) my in game name is ...Miraged...
2) a person named themselves ...Mlraged... (note the lower case "L") (i had previously thought it was capital "I")
3) the impostor tried to scam ppl for their acts
4) a friend told me they saw this person impersonating me and that the impostor tried to scam that friend
5) i PM'd The Lawman and told him about this (3 days before the ban)
6) another friend told me that they heard someone was behaving strangely that looked like me (in name) and pm'd me to check if i was ok
7) i responded to that friend and told them i had heard there was an impostor
6) someone took a screenshot of the impersonator and reported them
7) a mod misread the name in the screenshot and/or assumed someone had hacked my acct
8) i was banned
9) i pm'd several mods, emailed the AE help desk, provided copies of the previous pm's and pleaded my case
10) the mods investigated, realized the mistake, apologized and unbanned me
11) i forgive them and hope this never happens again

i hear the posts stating that this is probably someone that "created" an acct, rather than did a "name change" i don't know what the case was, as i never really saw the person

bottomline / advice ::: always report this kind of stuff when it happens to you (so you have proof when you need to defend yourself), read ppl's names carefully and NEVER give your acct info to anyone, even if you think they are someone you know

i don't know what the solution is....but maybe more "in-game" mods that investigate ppl's reports??....idk.....all i know is that this was a HUGE inconvenience to me and my reputation is probably ruined by it :(

i got an idea that can work
like have there be undercover mods that look like regular players
in which with these "spies" they could investigate an impersonation or whatever
so then these speis could go in see whats goin on if anything is true they can kick them off the sever and have a thing come up saying "Player Impersonation. You have been kicked and banned from EpicDuel"
or they could get kicked with a "deisconncted from ED severs" and when they come back their name changes to like Epic Wannabe Fail and they have a cheevo called Wannabe whch is worth 200k negative ponts

so thats my idea.

and i wanted to make a character like ya fay lol. i was actually gonna ask ya and call it twin fay beeee lol.

I actually laugh when people get scammed. If your stupid enough to give out your personal information than you deserve to get scammed. You wouldn't give out your credit card number or social security number so why would you give out your password?

^angels....i didn't get scammed....i got banned because someone impersonating me was trying to scam ppl....the problem with this "name" thing....is that innocent ppl are getting blamed for scammer's behavior

As for those that get scammed. I feel sorry for them.

Yes I know they have been stupid.
But I think you are forgetting that they either
(1) have NO money or
(2) are very young or
(3) greedy and want something for free.

Probably a combination of all 3.

So no reason to laugh at other peoples misfortune.
All I hope is they learn from it and do not repeat it.

Fay, I agree with you and also Angels we all have been stupid once so we don't have the right to call them stupid. Also redxtra's idea isn't bad but it can be improved if there was a system who can choose a player and see all the chats he make and see if he is scamming persons but it will need a lot of coding but with Hudelf, it should take a little less time.

or like they could do it like aqw where certain keywords when someone is whispering to you it would throw up a things saying warning this person is not an mod and mods will neer ask for pw or it can just kick them as a warning and after the 3 time it bans them

Simple solutions:

- character creation date should be displayed in Char page;
- all previous names should be displayed in Char page;
- A unique character ID (like in AQW) should be displayed in game and on char page, and all reports should include both caharacter name and character ID.

I agree Drianx. There should be more than just a name to identify us so that reports can pinpoint the culprit without inconveniencing by banning the original player.

I also agree that previous names should be displayed on our character pages.

I do hope that with the help of our new coder Hudelf that these things can be addressed ASAP.

It's a easy way for them to make cash at littleto no harm so no I don't think it should be removed.
