I think the thread starter should be able to post pictures in his first post (the topic post) to highlight his topic (posting off topic, words or pic of course if not allow when if its just link so I don't see any problem).

It's taken from DN and I really think that's how 1 topic should be designed

It will really help highlight the topic and make the topic a lot more fun and interesting to read and surely make the poster point. This become very informative in long long post and make wall of text a lot more enjoyable.

It won't actually break any current rule or cause any trouble

I find discussion on this forum sometime a bit weak especially when we need to focus on huge issue. I hope this can be a huge improvement

Surely, it is simpler to just post pictures within image tags?

If you want to do it the way of the DNs you just need to

[center][image]The link to whatever picture you want[/image][/center]

What you're suggesting is perfectly fine and as far as I'm aware doesn't break rules as long as, like you said, the pictures are not off topic.

Videos, however are a different matter but can still be linked provided they are appropriate content, although it is advisable to use quietube or youtuberepeat.com to avoid inappropriate comments and advertisements that may surround an otherwise PG video. I don't think the coding exists as of now (on these boards at least) to actually embed a video within the post, but that's probably due to the bandwidth issues of having video streaming from a post, if nothing else,
