I'm also 100% in favor of a more serious style. I've always liked thinking of the SCMMs as the pinnacle of Tek's work, serious war machines in the war against the Shadowscythe.

On a related note, I'd like to revisit the idea of associating certain art/design styles with certain engineers in the MQ universe. It would help add a little more character to our NPCs. And maybe somewhere down the line, we could see expansions of some old weapon sets or even some compatibility management.

Oh, and for design... My vote goes to a continuation of the Virtual-On inspired mechs. The Dharmahp is still one of my favorite designs, and I'd love to see MQ's take on something like the Raiden, Fei Yen, or Specineff.

Yes we need more engineer specifics. That's why I love (most) of the SCMMs, they have a uniform look. The Gold trim, the war look, etc. It just worked.

Star Captain Special Mechs (SCSM) perhaps?

I like the more militaristic look. A silly mech is ok every once in a while but I prefer a more serious looking machine. I think a mech in a Macross Valkyrie "Guardian Mode" style would be really cool (half jet half robot). You can keep the arms and shoulders and when you equip a head weapon the mech will take on a "Battroid" configuration. so the head can be displayed. And just like the Automorph when you are scrolling through a map screen the mech can take on a "Fighter jet" formation.

id like to see something more vehicle looking we have so many mechs that stand on two feet and walk around which is all well and good but id love to see something other then that and yeah like everyone else said something more serious looking and less jokey thats part of the reason I havent been buying mechs lately

FINALLY! a new SCMM (hope that acryonym stays)

i prefer what you guys are already doing. serious, military tone. a silly mecha doesnt belong among the SCMMs. BC sucked.

Anyways, I was actually thinking along the lines of SCEM (Star Captain Elite Mecha), but I guess it works :P.

I really want some sort of armored mech, like the Vanguard, only with some serious weapon, like a rocket launcher, or a machine gun.

On this note, I just got DeluxeBlade and need something to match it with BADLY. Though really, MQ just needs a color-palette redux.

Maybe a mech that represent the human weapons we have now( like in the real world) to show how powerful humans are.
But a like artillery (tank,plane, stuff like that) not a human like mech with machine guns and stuff, no CoD mechs allowed.

In all seriousness, any Virtuoids will work (even as crazy as Bal d Meora), as long as they're done very well and do justice as a homage. Most notably in terms of their most iconic attack (Raiden's Twin Screw Laser, Fei-Yen's low HP Hyper Mode, Temjin 707/747's Blade Surfing, Cypher's/MZYR's SLC, Specineff's 13 Second Unlimited Mode (before blowing up), etc). And yes, I'm still surprised there was no Jump Kick on the Dharmarhp.

...Ok. Enough fan <3 over the series. Otherwise, I'll deviate from the topic.

But I do agree with NaturallyMaria that SCMMs should look to be as professional (militarily in my opinion) as possible when compared to some other mechs in-game. Again, like I previously stated, I can accept the occasional homage/parody that deviates from the usual SCM design aesthetic (Viking most notably, but also Mechtron and BC).

I like the name Star Captain Mercurial Mecha. :P

On the topic of art, I liked the idea of the Steampunk. While the color scheme would be better as the normal SCMM, a steampunky SCMM would be quite fun to have around. It could be based on the concept of "inconsistency", with highly fluctuating damage not unlike a Mystraven and effects whose magnitudes would range from pathetic (nerfs opponent's damage by 5%, for example) to amazing (nerfs opponent's damage by 60%, for example).

How about a military armored surfer and pays tribute to J6 personal mech later on

With a body attack that basically sends the enemy mech up into space with the combine energy hover-board mechanism from the back and jumps up for using it. For a attack by a forced up turn of the board towards your enemy then the mech goes up as well as it was speeding towards your enemy with the board for a speed-through attack with the board only. (You speed towards your enemy on the board then you angle the board sideways in the opposite way then when near your enemy's mech to which your mech force the board the other way mean left to right and vice verse for a collision to the sky then the board strike sends it up to space as you speed through

With a jump kick from the board in space then with a angle diagonal dive as the enemy's mech goes down and you go jump off the board at the correct/right moment as it becomes a fiery burst line of fire for another attack and the mechanism returns by a flip back towards your mecha's back for a 5 hit combo

In a chance of a Pirate style version with a toned down version of the body attack with a surfing contest mini-game on Lagos to get the data(going against Captain Rhubarb,Prince,Robina,J6,Bradock)

Since we could see some engineers trying to make a mecha more mobile and butts heads with some other engineers trying to improve other parts of mechas, and once Tek comes by, they all obey her and end their conversations

How about something unique and unusual like a mecha that looks like food? Maybe it could be like some sort of pie or salad-looking kind of mecha. Just something that'll add some spice in battles.

1. It's shoulder attacks will launch rotten food and then create a 1.5xDoT called rotting meat

2. Since food logically gives energy to humans. There could be some sort of Energy effect

I want the next SCEM to be a jet-like mecha that can transform into a jet and attack the oppponent with such an incredible speed and power. Sounds much like the automorph. SCEM( Star Captain Elite Mecha) would sound much better as they are rare mecha and much more powerful and unique than any other mecha excluded the extremely and seasonal rare mecha such as terrifi, chronocorruptor and lightshow.

I vote for a militaristic machine all the way - really time to get some more serious looking machines i think ^_^
Also i'd say SCEM kinda sounds more logical to me so i'd go with that.

Well between the two I like better SCEM.

Since the last threads went poof, I`ll post again my thoughs on the matter of future mecha design

So, as regarding to what kind of mecha I want to see, first and foremost I would like another Steampunk themed mecha. Something like this: http://i46.tinypic.com/11qpbh0.jpg. I like that concept and think the Burning Steampunk Models are the best looking mecha in all the game.

Second to that i would like bulky looking mecha. Not so say that i want OPed, very powerful mecha, but I prefer the bulky, armored/plated, heavy look. Examples for what i mean:

I've to say, I'd like to see a serious Military with a lil theme-touch dependin on the time it's released.

MQ's Birthday - A lil bit birthday feelin.
TlaPd - Lil bit pirate.
Mogloween - A lil bit spook.


Regardin the name, I am just used to sayin SCMM and SCEM just doesn't look as good as SCMM.

What about a mech who's different weapons have multiple animations that activate either at random or depending on which weapon was used before it. THink about it, if each weapon had 3 possible animations, then 6 slots x 3 animations = 18 animations. That should make it more fun to play as.
