Beta, funnest and most balanced phase. Build variety actually existed back then, instead of strength spamming tryhards dominating the game :P

Oh, Beta of course, no question about it.
In Beta, every class occupied their own niche, and had their own advantages/disadvantages:

Bounty Hunters- Fast wins, but lower win % (1v1)
Tech mages- Slower wins, but higher win % (1v1)
Mercenaries- Best 2v2 class

In gamma, that all came crashing down with balance-killing releases like Focus and Agility.

Beta (second would be early gamma)
you had heal loop, support merc, str merc, str bh
there were just so many variety of builds back then.

beta would have certainly been even better if there were a bigger range of items like there is today.
aside from founder and bunnyzooka, beta was fine.

and heal loop build was deemed OP by some people's standards, but people forget u could only get like 25 wins an hour (including NPCs) with that build. perhaps if it was knocked down a couple notches, then it would have been better, but instead they went and annihilated the class.
