@Andlu: 99999% increase in gold/exp rewards is also a shortcut.

Btw, which Ice, water and light characters are these? I have bad memory :/

And honestly I don't think they could keep the game only with shortcuts or only with characters, but a mix of both of them.
Cosoma titan as ICE
Founder champion/templar as LIGHT
Horse of the year for WATER(I guess)

Orch Chieftan still has a good reign as a powerful Neutral Character.

The Void Flesh, Necrosis, Poison Drake, Xmas Elf, and many others in the free roster are just as powerful as the ones in the SG roster.

Oh and the Rats too.

You can obtain levels and most cards through CC. I know you like to say that it's impossible for you to farm 15k gold for CC, but it's not. RNG might not favor you, but it's not impossible.
There are characters for SG which are strong, but I'll never know, I haven't bought them and never had actual reason to. I'm not less competetive because I don't have Taro or Year of the horse.

I've read your paragraphs plenty of times, but your arguments are the same and relates nothing with pay 2 win. As long as you can keep yourself competetive in a PvP game without having the need of SG, it would not qualify as P2W.

Edit: Yeah, I can see what you mean by VC not being free. I forgot that to enter stress test/alpha you needed to have bought anything in any AE game.

@Jmagician Yup. They are not F2P. Those are the only elements which P2W characters are the best.
IMO: Neutral: Sucks but orc as mondez said
Fire: Mana guardian, I see no reason not to see how awesome he is
Water YoTH(need to pay unfortunately)
Energy: Resonance/Volt engineer
Earth: Earth elemental/Minotaur
Ice: Cosoma titan(Unfortunately paid)
Light: FC and templar(Unfortunately paid)
Shadow: VC beats all. But PD is free.

 I think you guys are all familiar with Black Dragon, and else, this is the link to its' wiki page.
He is thé most pay2play character there is and I think that... well... look at his cards.... 2 mana for 300 damage and 4 mana for 600 damage? I have him but I actually refuse to play him because he's just too strong.

Thé example of SG characters being a lot stronger than f2p ones. (aside from a few free characters ofcourse, but these are very rare and hard to catch...)

BD is actually pretty weak at higher levels and I have seen BD lose to none SG characters. Early levels BD is strong, but he loses a good punch of power at higher levels later on.

He is the equivalent of Lee Sin and Pantheon in League of Legends.

I was complaining that it gave people with X-Boosts almost 7 times gold and experience, not that it gave them any boost at all. Not many other RPGs do that, at least not ones that have large communities of free players.

@Bartirix BD is one of the most old characters and actually most of the old characters get outdated. Cave zardman was the best character at alpha. Erm well.

 Lol I didnt get the game in the alpha so I dont know but I can imagine.. also, LEE SIN IS ALWAYS STRONG @_@ early, late, mid, hes always so dang scary D:

Actually equal to Pantheon and Renekton. BD is bad at the end game(level 20)

I actually would place PD over VC since them Poisons seem to always be drawn with PD.

3 Poisons can screw you up more than that especially when my Necrosis has a good amount of DoTs plus more added DoTs with CC against PD, but still lost since PD also has Iron Hide. Then again my sacrifice play always has cost in terms of HP which I know is very risky in PvP.
