Er, do you think perhaps instead of adding the winner to the pantheon, the competition might result in ascending the winner, and allowing them to learn from the gods? Or request one thing from each god? Turning people into gods for winning a single tournament is a little... extreme, no matter the conditions. I have to say, your writing very much surprised me with the quality of the actual text. Strong ending line. It reads as an introduction; like the first third of a short story. Ideally, you want to write a story that isn't actually reliant on anything in DF to function. The Tomix saga was written in such a way that it would have fit in any fantasy universe— that was part of its charm. Tomix created a whole new set of mechanics for the saga. Perhaps try that yourself! Try creating a new class, a new culture, and new magic mechanics. Then create a story around it. :)
