Still Watching...
|
Welp. The proto-post I had written up till midnight has to be scrapped for what should be rather obvious reasons now. The earliest warning I had that any assumptions on withdrawl would be wrong...was a PM send out after I had crashed for the night anyway. Between Church and plans, that means I have an extremely small window to try and get it done in time before Idle Timer, otherwise I'll not be able to write until 10 PM tonight. I can try, but we've seen how my quality has to suffer inordinately to rush, and at Final 3, that's not something I can really afford to do at this stage of the competition, I feel. This is advance notice, I may require an Extension. I will try my best to not need one, but as stated above, I don't think I have the luxury to avoid it. Either way, I think its safe to say that this post will NOT involve the F.E.R.R.E.T. reaching the other pair and getting involved in a down-and-dirty three-way brawl yet, so I should not hold you both up. As for Spite...this is the first in quite a while, I think? E: I think I may have storyboarding done in my head. May skip church if I can think of sufficient reason that can withstand the slings and arrows of highly disappointed family as well as the erosion of guilt. No promises, but I'm going to grab a shower regardless and see if I can't get my head to start turning a phrase or three to kick-start the actual writing. E2: Before I post this, I would like to say that I DO NOT LIKE THIS POST. I would much rather take things a bit more slowly, a bit more purposefully, and trim Makelyth down with the precision that would display more fully the tactics which F.E.R.R.E.T.s tend to employ. That said, I also hold high respect for the Spite option, and this post will prove its cost upon the Lightsplitter even so. I don't have time to take the post beyond that pivotal combat, so I may wind up bucking the post order depending on Apoc and Kell and permissions since I'll send a draft of what, if anything, said post has within it. Now for a detail explanation. "Black-hot" is actually a thing. Steel has recorded colors depending on the temperature it is heated to, and actually gets darker as the heat encourages oxidation up to a point. Black hot refers to the gray band of heat, and since the steel is in the process of cooling down rather than heating up, the gray shifts into darker black rather quickly, and remains so even into the cooler blue band. That temperature remains several hundred Fahrenheit, which not only means I am respecting the vast heat output of Makelyth's flaming assault last post, but the F.E.R.R.E.T. is slowly cooling. And I could ill-afford to spend the time to continue reflecting on what that sustained heat has damaged, denatured, and otherwise continues to threaten due to the softer nature of heated steel. I don't have time, and I didn't have a space to dwell on it without interrupting the flow either. I may elucidate on the construction of a F.E.R.R.E.T. more, later. I have a very busy day ahead, and because of it, I decided against the Extension. To take proper time would've meant not posting till tomorrow, really, so better to rush now than rush tonight when exhausted and wanting sleep. E3: To be clear on what happened - the Lightsplitter severed Makelyth's spinal cord at the neck. Its something that can be done with an amazingly shallow cut, all things considered given the forum of chopping through whole limbs. Again, something that begged for more description, but TIME has been my greatest enemy at several points in this competition. I may insert a fuller, retrospective description of the wound in a following post. Or, since the "free kill" isn't an immediate kill, provide a more colorful and full description for to Tdub later. Granted, there is the ratings barrier to consider in getting the precise yet gory details on flesh and blood beings as well. Something I can freely subvert in describing the violence on a construct! Yay for lampshading. Or something.
