@Draycos777,

quote:

are students allowed to learn how to use other weapons besides swords?

For swordfighting classes, you'll have to use any and all kinds of swords as your primary weapon. You will also be taught a few other weapons in the Second Year which are necessary for Warriors to be able to wield other than swords. For alchemy and rogue arts however, a variety of different weapons will be taught. Why not opt for Sword fighting in the First Year and Rogue Arts or Alchemy in the Second Year if you would like to have a bit of variety...? :)

You will be able to forge your own weapon, any weapon in the Third Year and use it then on. For safety and security reasons, you'll have to use weaponry approved by Tutors in the first and second year. In emergency cases however, you might be granted use of actual weapons.

quote:

Also are they allowed to bring/use family heirlooms?

Yes, you are allowed to bring any kinds of items to the Academy whether it's an item or a pet of yours as long as its not passively dangerous. If its under your control, it's allowed.

NOTE: Titanic Dragons not allowed. Baby dragons, however, are.^^

Alright, thanks Arthur. Last question before I get started on my bio. How will the years be handled? Will you be doing a time leap?

I'll be doing what you can call Arc to Arc jumping. We'll be seamlessly moving from Arc to Arc, not Day to Day. Each Arc will consist of roughly 8-10 days. Now these days we'll have to RP out in order to complete the Arc.

Unimportant days will be leapt over. Major tournaments and competitions will take place over a period of one to three days.

For starters however, we'll be going through the Joining Day, Orientation Day and First Day after which we'll start with the story.

I look forward to having you with us at the Academy, Bastet. :)

Guys, 2 more things I would like to bring to your notice.

1. RPers creating a student are allowed to create Tutors as well. Although, tutor spots are limited. Similarly, RPers creating tutors are allowed to make student characters.

2. I would like to put up the IC at the first 4 students.

I hope Vanguard Academy can once again rise to the great heights that it had once risen to.^^

So I can have both a Tutor and a student? If that is the case, does the Academy restrict any specific schools? For example, necromancy?

Finally, I was planning on having my students forge their own swords for my class before I even begin to teach them how to use it. Is that acceptable?

Name: Kitsandra Fon/Little Queen/Nine-Tailed Queen

Age: 16/first year; 17/second year; 18/third year; 19/fourth year.

Race: human

Gender: female

Physical Appearance: Kitsandra has the appearance of a fifteen year old girl. She is caucasian and stands at a height of exactly five feet and seven inches. The Little Queen's hair is short, just out of reach from touching her shoulders, and black. Her eyes are a light violet. Kitsandra wears a seemingly plain but warm dark grey shirt, made out of a soft but sturdy fabric; the tips of the sleeves, are ruffled. The bottom is knee-length brown shorts with a black belt. On her legs is a pair of shin-length, black, stocking. For foot-wear, the Queen sports shin-high, low-cut, black leather boots. Over her shirt, Kit wears a white, almost lab-like, coat with pockets.

Items: Kitsandra carries a large assortment of magical items and catalysts stored within a magically enhanced sling bag.

Magic: First year/While still being studied and practiced, Kit can change and shape the properties of an inanimate object for a short time.
Second year/The amount of time Kit can change an object has increased and she can change multiple items at once or change the same object multiple times: She can change up to 10 different items, one item 15 times and 5 different items up to 3 times split amongst them, respectfully.
Third year/Kit's spellcrafting has let her create two spells to increase a person's speed and physical strength, as well as being able to change different parts of her own body( starting point for changing others in her fourth year.). Kit's limit has increased to 15, 20 and 10/6, respectfully.
Forth year/Kit's form changing magic let's her make an inanimate object into a completely new object. She can also change the appearance of living things.

Personality: Driven, Kit wants to know more. Not just to complete the magic of form control she is working on, but, knowledge for knowledge's sake. Kit likes a challenge, and will willingly jump at a chance to prove the fruits of her work were worth it. She has a habit of putting her hands in her coat pockets when she is thinking or when she is excited.

Courses: First year/alchemy
Second year/ rogue arts.
Third year/ Sage training.
Fourth year/ Sage arts.

History: Born into the Fon family, Kit was a branch member. Like all children of the Fon family, once she came of age Kit had to decide what her training would be. However, noting stood out to her. While she was athletic, none of the weapons she could learn interested her. That was, until a wandering merchant came along with a book on magic. Kit tried casting a simple light spell and while it didn't last a few seconds before exploding in her face, she knew she wanted to learn more. Since magic wasn't a very 'known' subject within the Fon family, Kit's parents sent her to the Vanguard Academy. Now that she is here, she's going to learn all she can and nothing is going to stop her.

All finished :)

@TJByrum, Yeah sure. Some schools are restricted at VA. For example, Dragon Subjugation was just removed from this instalment seeing as the practice is unacceptable. Dark magic is not practiced in VA and so it is naturally not taught.

Who knows, some other Academy out there might exclusively focus on Dark Arts...? :)

As for your second question, I am sorry but forging your own weapons is not at all allowed up until Third Year. You'll have to work around that.

EDIT:

@Draycos777, With the belongings she has, I presume she has magical herbs and potionmaking amongst her hobbies...?
Also, sorry to say but no Weapons. Atleast not yet.

Actually, Kit is more interested in spellcrafting and making new spells.

Edit: Kit will probably be studying into some (but not all) of the darker arts since they aren't taught at VA.

@Arthur: Hm, alright. But it would just be showing them how to forge a basic iron or steel sword, nothing to special, just something to train and spar with. One of the extra-curricular activities is Blacksmithing/Forging/Crafting, so wouldn't that be the same thing?

And what if I had a student who was interested in Necromancy, but decided to build up his power and understanding at the Academy first?

EDIT: Also my bio is finished. I wasn't sure if Gray was still alive or not, but I mentioned him in the History, please tell me if that is acceptable. I'm not sure if the Academy is new or if it was established years/centuries ago.

@TJByrum, Students can spar with Wooden weaponry provided in the Sparring Hall.

The extra-curricular subject mostly includes theory. Understanding the materials, your tools, what you are trying to make, etc. What little practical is involved includes mere demonstration. Students, however will be allowed to forge trinkets and such.

For your second question, you can very well make that into an interesting side-plot. That I can allow. ;)

EDIT: Your character is accepted. I welcome him into the Vanguard Academy. His History is perfectly fine. It's interesting to see a non-magic character.

@Arthur: Okay, I can do with that. My methods, however, may be a bit unorthodox as compared to others though. I want my classes to feature not only physical training, but mental as well.

And I'll get to work on a student here soon... ;) Gotta tend to the Hallows Inn; I have a bounty hunter there who likes to play hard.

Only just noticed this a while ago.

quote:

I don't know what you mean about a spear.

What I meant was a person with no previous training using a spear would still stand a good chance against an intermediate swordsman; spears have longer reach, and as long as you don't let the swordsman in (which isn't too hard if he's not had too much training) you will have the advantage. Plus, using a spear effectively is pretty easy. Stabbing things doesn't require the amount of practice edge alignment does.

Name: Zayne

Gender: Female

Age: 16-17-18-19

Race: Human

Magic:
First year:
- Zayne is able to teleport to her pocket dimension and back, reappearing where she originally was when coming back.
- Zayne can teleport small-to-medium objects to her dimension by touch, and teleport them back at will.

Second year:
- Zayne can decide where objects reappear when she teleports them back. Line of sight on the designated spot is required.

Third year:
- Zayne only needs line of sight to be able to teleport objects, touch isn't obligatory anymore.

Fourth Year:
- Zayne can rapidly chain teleportation abilities, including teleporting living beings and huge objects

Courses:
Foundation Year: Alchemy & Magic.
Second Year: Alchemy & Magic.
Third & Fourth Year: Master of Arts course (Sword Fighting --> Alchemy)

Appearance: Zayne is fairly average sized, standing at 5’5”. She has blood red irises and short, spiky silver hair. She usually wears a black suit with white bandages over it. The bandages cover her forearms, part of her chest and one of her eyes.

Personality: She is a character that doesn’t open up to many people, especially to those that don't show willingness to carry out their duties. She mostly keeps to herself in her pursuit of self-improvement, often retiring to her dimension when she wants complete silence. Those who manage to befriend her, however, will find her to be fairly amicable.

History: Zayne is the daughter of the leader of a major town hidden within a wide forest. One day, she’ll inherit control of the town from her father and the responsabilities that come with it. To make sure she would’ve been ready for it, she was sent to mature at the Vanguard Academy. She took it as a privilege, and will strive to do her best. When she was but a child, her village was attacked by demons. At the cost of the lives of a great amount of warriors, they were repealed. The residence in which she and her family lived wasn’t spared from the attack, and she was caught undefended by a lone demon. The demon didn’t hesitate to attack her, but it wasn’t long before her father himself intervened to defend her. The creature, however, still managed to strike a blow against the undefended child. The injury that incurred from the blow left Zayne blind in her right eye. The bandages she wore to recover from the wound eventually became her trademark, and she continued wearing them even after they were no longer necessary. Her dimension-shifting powers were inherited from her mother, who was a powerful mage.

Guys, I think you got the Magic and Courses Format wrong. Check out the format from the first post.

There's powers for each Year.

@Bastet, just change your magic and courses format according to the first post and you'll be fine.

Arthur, could you please specify what I'm doing wrong? I'm getting fairly confused.
From what I've understood I haven't followed this line for the powers: Foundation Magic Power:( Just two and nothing OPed)
If that's where I went wrong with the powers, could you suggest a way to modify them without having to rewrite my character?
But courses format? What did I get wrong there?

@Bastet,

Allow me to clarify.

For the Magic section, you have to write in the skills for each year. In each year, you are only allowed to use the magic skills written for that year alongwith the skills of the previous year.

For the Foundation(first) Year, you are allowed to use just 2 magic skills. For the second year, three skills(two from first year +1 from second year) Naturally, the second year skill will be stronger than the first year ones and so on.

You won't have to rewrite your character at all. Here's what you can do.

I see you are going with a dimensional theme with your magic powers, so let me write you up an example sheet:

quote:

Foundation Powers:
1. Zayne can teleport upto 10 feet in any direction.
2. Zayne can teleport small objects.

Second Year:
Zayne can teleport upto 20 feet in any direction.

Third Year:
1. Zayne can teleport bigger objects including remotely teleporting objects within 30 feet of her to her.

Fourth Year:
1. Zayne can rapidly chain teleportation abilities including teleporting another human being and huge objects.

So something along the lines of this is what needs to be there.

Similarly, there's a format for courses as well.

I hope you understand my meaning.

I edited the bio as per request. I hadn't quite realized I had to plan ahead of the first year.
I also took your suggestion for the fourth year power, it fit in nicely.

Name: Aia the Kind (I-yuh)

Gender: Female

Age: 19

Race: Human

Magic
Foundation Magic Powers:
Chilling Touch - Aia is able to emit ice-based magic from her hands. It's more of an annoyance at first, but a sustained assault can hinder the enemy as it freezes the targeted part of their body. A longer, more sustained assault may give that person frostbite.
Summoner: Aia is able to summon a spirit to fight for her from the Beyond. The spirit is most commonly an animal, such as a wolf, or a bear. It looks and appears as a normal animal, except it abides Aia's command.
Year 2 Starting Power:
Ice Blast - Aia can quickly conjure a powerful blast of ice that slams into enemies at close range, knocking them unconscious or at least sending them stumbling back. Otherwise she conjures a smaller, lighter shard of ice that she can hurl at long-range enemies.
Year 3 Starting Power:
Conjurer - Aia is able to summon up to two spirits from the Beyond, and they can now take on the form of humanoids.
Year 4 Starting Power:(One Last Year Starting Power, this is the strongest)
Necromancer - Aia can now heal the wounds and then revive fallen allies. She can also transmit a spirit from the Beyond into a fallen enemy and order them to fight for her.

Skills: Aia, being as short and lithe as she is, is naturally agile. She tends to stay out of combat, but when she gets into close-range she depends on her ability to dodge and evade attacks rather than meet them with a solid defense.

Courses
First Year Study Option: Alchemy and Magic
Second Year Study Option: Alchemy and Magic
Third Year Study Option: Mage
Fourth Year Study Option: Mage

Appearance: Aia is short for her age, standing only a mere 5'2 and having a lithe body build. She has icy-blue eyes and pale skin, almost white. Her black hair is often kept pulled back in a ponytail, although a few strands often escape the band and hang down over he forehead. She has been described as having sharp facial features with flawless skin. Aia has a very serious, cold, and smug demeanor. She lets out a smug grin every now and again, but you can't help but feel it's something sinister she's thinking of. Her glares feel like shards of ice poking into you, stripping your defenses down and making you vulnerable.

Personality: Aia's personality matches her icy affinity. She's cold and distant, preferring solitude and quietness. Deep down Aia seeks ultimate power, hoping that one day she will unlock the true potential of the Beyond and make herself Queen of the Damned. However, she must also put on a charade, and as such struggles to attempt to appear friendly and sweet. But when you catch her unawares she seems rather... peculiar.

Guys, just a couple of notices.

Firstly, added the accepted characters to the first post.

Secondly, added a coded format of the bio for your convenience.

And lastly, if you would like to have your bio approved with just the skills, please let me know so I can go over it. I wouldn't know if I am to approve a bio if you post it without a Personality or History with the intention of adding them after my approval. :)

2 more bios required and then we start. Draycos777's bio with the update and editing the magic part will make 3 bios.
