Anyone else feel that the on foot Non-DA version of the boss fight could use some nerfing, as it feels too much like something from the Inn challenge board, or is it just me?

@mountaingoat
in a previous quest, we learned they targeted what they ASSUMED was an empty land, to show their power, they didn't count on the presence of Atrea since their geography or Dragonia is probably outdated a few years to not know Atrea arrived near Duat.

And whew, after doing the fight with the Dragon, I did again on foot to try the best classes and after a looooong fight with Mana and HP potions used and a lot of timing, Necromancer absolutely did the job. The health sap was really reliable with the mana regen and the fear aura did wonders against those pesky monsters alongside some good timing of the two shield skills and even using the "terror" on the heart to gain an extra turn (usualy to use my shield right before he goes "heroes never die" on the monsters).

So will we have a peek of the Atrea forge area?

The boss fight being NDA is hard and grindly...

Hmmm...was the helmet's horns taken from the sunspikes?

Unless you all are looking for an inn style fight, use the DragonRider. The ground fight is exceptionally grueling for a storyline quest, more so than anything else that has been presented so far. It would take quite some time for that boss to be finished, even (I assume) with a top tier DC or Special Offer class. The titan battle isn't all that easy either, but at least it wouldn't have taken hours.

Aside from that, thank you all fellow warriors! That was an undeniably pre-eminent triumph on the side of Atrea and Dragonia. Let's hope we can keep up the miraculous skill next time, because we will need it to defy the future machinations of Valoirr and the Rose. Hopefully, this shall not be so easily forgotten.

I beat the boss with PDL first try. Took forever, though. I hit 102% around halfway through.

I was playing catch up on the story yesterday and was about halfway through with Book 3.
Now that I'm all caught up, I'm glad to see that the story is still polished in DF and can't wait for more!

@Nova
if it helps, the book of lore, on chapter 3, have a handy "timeline" page, and if you're going to Ravenloss book 3, I reccomend a box of tissues for the upcoming tears.

This war finally motivated me to catch up on the story which I've been trying to do for years.

Honestly a bit disappointed that
spoiler:

We only got to fight the thing's heart. I'm aware the base enemy is in the Tower but I'm not skilled enough to beat that yet. Fighting the crippled behemoth would've been more memorable but alas...

I do wonder how we're going to deal with the Magesterium's next move, as we won't have the luxury of
spoiler:

An Empress on our side in the future

^ That's just because this was but a prelude to the coming storm. At least victory here means that the Ateala remain safe, for now anyway.

I somehow doubt that the Rose gaining power in exchange for not protecting the people will improve their reputation. Trading the lives, homes, and safety of the populace for personal power tends not to be a popular policy decision.

I've returned to DF after over a decade of absense when the Song of Ateala was just released - and found myself completely overwhelmed by all these new characters and events. Who is the flying moglin? Why are drow with wings coming to help purple demon people? And why is one of them calling me master?!

Now, I've finally caught up on all the story, played through all relevant quests, and I have to say, it's been a blast. DF has an expansive, consistent lore, fascinating visuals, well-designed characters - I've loved every second of playing through these sagas. It was an incredible experience to walk into that same quest, and recognize all the characters, all the events referenced that lead to this situation. A huge thank you to the team for all the effort put into the game!

P.S. Would it be possible to make an easy version of the boss, like with the Tournament of the Champions? I would love to see the war's conclusion and cutscenes, but even after catching up on everything and getting the best equioment, the fight's pretty much impossible for a player with no DA or DC classes.

@Primate Murder: For the boss of Song of Alteala its pretty much a tank and stalling strategy with your pet dragon, choose Death Knight as a NDA for its passive heal, defeat the minions with regular attacks while conserving mana for the multi-hit at the same time before attacking the heart (not after it revives its minions first because that multi hit will heal the heart instead) with the DoT, heal attack,to regular attacks and final until it revives the minions on its third turn, you can use the shield before it revives minions or attack and take the blunt of damage of the shield on

Is Death Knight really better than Necromancer? With some persistence, tactical acumen and a hefty dose of luck, I've managed to get the Heart down to almost 60% hp on my best try, but then I got bogged down in stuns and run out of potions.

I've also tried using Paladin's Prismatic Strike to just attack the heart instead of the golems, while accumulating heal, but that went even worse.

How does the pet dragon help, if you don't mind me asking? 1 turn stun is pretty insignificant (especially when the golems have 50 immobility res), and 4% hp heal is not that much either...

P.S. I'm not trying to complain, I'm genuinely interested. Please share your wisdom, oh wise meta player!

That heal from the pet dragon will help if you just stay in the Necrotic Presence healing form throughout the battle: Garb of Undeath, Instill Fear is a three turn stun (Reminder) is what would be lucky, Unholy Shadow, Obliterate would be used at ending of the boss fight

Its basically shield yourself with the three heals, and HP tank through the battle. Also both golems need to be down for that two free rounds to attack the heart. If one golem is down due to pet dragon before the heart gives it a one free round to attack before the golems are revived.

Simple combo list: Start with Garb of Undeath then go with golems first

Heart: Soul Slash (sync to Yashta's DoT)->Garb of Undeath to regular attack if Garb of Undeath was used too early->finally Obliterate at low health

Golems: step one: Instill Fear on Golem A or B-> second step:Unholy Shadow->third step: Attack whichever was not affected by the stun until low health-> fourth step: Attack the stunned golem until low health->fifth step: Unholy Shadow again. Repeat 2,3,4,5

I'll check again with my deathknight strategy and with the pet dragon changes. It took like forty minutes to use this strategy.

I've tried it out again and it seems DeathKnight is, indeed, the way to go. I did not quite manage to kill the monster, but I've reduced it to 35-40% hp on the first try, before running out of hp and mp potions.

I did use Twilly instead of the dragon, since the heal is stronger (8% vs 4% on low Protection) and more common. Also, Unholy Shadow has Evil element - and the golems have 50 Resist to Evil, so that's pretty much useless.

Overall, I think I'll try again upon reaching level 40, maxing out my alchemy and getting a new tier of equipment. I'll also probably retrain my stats for this fight, to get 100 End and a little more Wis. (15k gold for one boss... )

Anyways, thanks for the advice!

P.S. If you kill only one golem, is it better to spend a turn finishing off the other, or do I just attack the heart? And if killing one golem is enough, maybe I shouldn't even bother with the second one?

P.S.2 - what do you mean sych with Yashta's DoT? Do they make each other stronger or something?

The heart takes the full damage from both, after both golems are down before reduced back to 0 after reviving them.

Actually Unholy shadow is still good, just use when you are higher in level and more END with WIS, Also Twilly is fine, and yes its better to kill the other golem too before the heart, because the heart "applies" a effect with them on the field.

Here's the forum's link to the boss Boss linky to show it.

It's only worth killing the second Augahim if you do so on the same turn or maybe 1 turn later, because he revives both of them 3 turns after the first one dies. Technically the best strategy for bringing the boss down quickly then is to try and whittle them both down evenly and then kill both of them on the same turn (an offensive pet can really help with that too), so that you can bring him to -25 All for the full 3 turns. However, that would lead to far more turns having to tank both Augahims, so if you're having trouble surviving it's not a bad idea to only kill 1 over and over to keep the damage you take to a minimum while also dealing some damage to the boss. Classes which inflict resistance debuffs with a decent uptime can even ignore the Augahims entirely, though I don't think there are any NDA/NDC classes which can do so. The only thing you absolutely should not do no matter your strategy is to kill 1 Augahim from full and then do the same for the other one, which is what I see a lot of people who struggle with this fight do; you kill one and then by the time you kill the other he resurrects them both and you make no progress.

And it's done!

It took 70 minutes, 7 potions and nearly 20k gold in stat retraining, but I finally beat the Heart of Cryohem! That huge monster that seemed so completely unbeatable when I returned to DF after a decade of absence has finally fallen.

A huge thanks to Lurk and Sakurai for all your advice, I couldn't have done it without you.
