So I thought I understood binary pretty well before this puzzle showed up... Seems I've learned something here today.

Verly wasn't kidding in the design notes when he said this war required teamwork and communication, huh? I agree with Alpha too, it's nice to have a really unique way of getting the community to work together. Glad to see some new faces on the forums too! Welcome! :)

I wanted to try all the different outcomes then share the answer here, but honestly, the system is really badly made : as soon as you get the right combination, you must go back to the center and once you're there, you cannot access the other rooms on the side. That means you can't even go back and check which ones were which ones. If, like me, you are willing to try all the different outcomes in the hope of posting it here, make yourself a list of all 24 possibilities, and at the bottom of the list, note which shape matches which light status (Blink, On or Off).
Whatever your answer may be, it's all dependent on the light pattern, meaning light pattern #1 that matched shape #1 in first attempt won't necessarily match in your second attempt.

Has anyone tried decoding what the name means?

E - 189 - L

I either get ERIL or EAHIL if directly changing the letters.

Going the other way around, the letters correspond to 5 and 12. You get the numbers: 518912.
Different combinations that I get:
EAHIAB
EAHIL
ERIL

Trying to reverse it, and the numbers get 219815
Which on decodign could give:
BAIHAE
UIHAE
UIHO
BSHO
BSHAE

I'm not making much sense out of this.
Maybe its just a random string and I'm looking too into this.

I played around a bit with the name as well:

If you change the numbers in "E-189-L" directly to letters, you get "E-AHI-L" as you already mentioned. However, if we take the cipher used for translating Lock and Key's dialogue from the "Leftovers" quest ("A" translates to "B", "B" translates to "C", etc.), and only apply it to the "AH" letters in "E-AHI-L", we get "E-BII-L". This whole war did start with doing a favour for the EBIL Zorbak, but even I will admit that this is quite a stretch. It reminds me of all the "Half-Life 3 confirmed" jokes made in the past decade lol.

Well, it's big brain time ladies and gents. Feel free to post more crazy conspiracy theories regarding the name! :D

Regarding the Archive's name, it was discovered that the number 189 has significance as both a centered cube number and a lucky number (in number theory). As for the letters and their involvement, I'm not sure. I considered the mathematical number 'e' playing a part, but considering it is capitalised in all instances, perhaps not. L is also the roman numeral for 50, but this again seems like a stretch. Perhaps it just refers to the "library" or "lock"?
