 As people keep mentioning DF is not a visual novel, movie, or book. It is supposed to be a game and not having an element of progression or even the slightest amount of difficulty involved in the gameplay is an issue.

Obviously the writing has improved as well but since coming back to the game since book 1, the improved gameplay for the story also has pleasantly surprised me with story villains at times presenting some form of challenge and having unique mechanics. One of the initial reasons I ended up leaving the game for so long was because it felt like everything related to the story was doable without knowing anything about gameplay and I ended up getting bored.

I understand other people may feel differently and only care about the story but a good game should be able to balance both and I think this quest and boss are a pretty good example of that.
