It sure was weird not hearing any of Voltaire's music this event.

Is Deadfly a parody of Beetlejuice?

I mentioned in an earlier post that Deadfly appears to evoke the traits of Bloody Mary and Candyman.

A F13 Voltaire event with no gothic house decorations, what is this?

EDIT: Alright, went through it. It was... generic. All those Ultra Bosses took the wind out of the team I guess.

I guess I am the first to comment on this update.

I have some constructive criticism to give.

First, thank you for giving us rewards worth getting!

If the damage is actually just a base damage boost instead of an "all monsters" or "tagged monsters", it is invaluable, and the elemental weapon is the strongest of its type in the game.

The other ultra fights? Not as good.

The Exalted Apothesis, while the second best weapon in the game, was only worth the grind for the badge, unless you desired a secondary weapon so you didn't have to go to the museum for your second-most used class's or classes' enhancement(s). I haven't gotten it yet because I have the Necrotic Sword of Doom, which is slightly better.

I haven't even bothered with Kala. The rewards are flat out TERRIBLE except for the helmet, which I already have the Head of the Legion Beast, so I didn't need it, which I think is superior anyway.

However, I feel this boss either (a) needs serious tweaking or (b) needs to allow more people (5 - 7) in a room so we can allow a Legion Revenant, Lightcaster, Stonecrusher and / or Infinity Titan, Lord of Order, AND Archpaladin in, and possibly a tank such as a Void Highlord in. I have to ask, did you even test this boss before you released it as a four-person challenge?

This is a fight at the end of a war we spent 5 releases building up to to unlock. The fight should be more like The Beast for that war that gave the Head of the Legion Beast. The fight can be a daily so you can't grind it all in one day, although I do believe the boss should either (a) have less HP and less powerful attacks or (b) allow more people into a room.

And I don't mind grinding a bit longer if the fight is more manageable. You can make the rewards more expensive to accommodate the change. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.

I was pleased with last night's release as well as Galanoth's way of securing victory.

Next week, we partake in the next chapter in the Darkon Saga. We still have King Drago in our custody and there's a chance that the next member of the Scales will show up.

Part I of SoW Fire was good, but the rest sputtered out

At least we got a good setup for the final battle, which might be for AQW birthday

The new Featured Gear is grand

I thought Shadows of War saga was hit-and-miss. Crazy Malgor is doing some stuff over here, and then next release he's doing some stuff over there. I think it would have helped if we learned little bits about Malgor throughout the whole saga, instead of learning basically everything during the fire plane war.

The story and cutscenes in /ghostnexus were incredible. We're introduced to someone, and we learn about them and their struggles. It's just a simple character-driven narrative, and it works.
The proof that it works is in the fire plane storyline too. In the middle of all the grand cosmic narratives, the most compelling part of the story is the humanity of Fiamme, Galanoth, and Elius.

Although, I thought "Why Galanoth was chosen" would be a larger plot point, which would be the focus of its own cutscene with a great character moment for Galanoth. But instead, he just wonders about the question in multiple cutscenes, then says he may know the answer in another cutscene, and then explains the answer in a ! dialogue box. Dage & Nulgath could have been a big character moment too, but instead, it was another scene of "you know, i've been bad in the past, but I guess we should team up now, cause this Queen of Monsters Malgor dude is craaa-zaaay".

A lot of the characters in the earlier parts of Shadows of War had no characterisation at all. Teja, the cat, Varga, Gar. The story even started poking fun at Gar for basically being an object, but that never went anywhere. Still waiting for his big redeeming character moment. & Varga just annoys me. Ontop of being a conceptual existence that has no characterisation, she has the power to just reach her hands into the story and do whatever she wants. But the story has never impacted her in any meaningful way. I feel like she could just kill Malgor by herself.

I love the ultra fight as it is. It's basically a big boss with 2 adds that have progressive enrage timers; and the goal is to delay killing the fire orbs while you damage the boss as much as possible, and only kill each fire orb when their enrage is becoming too strong for the party to endure. This definitely requires a strategy, taunts, & consumables, and you should be forming parties with people in your guild discord groups to do it.

Overall, I like what the story is setting up. The Avatars are more willing to interfere directly in Lore's affairs, but visiting Lore could destroy the planet, so they will probably recede their powers and take on a human form while in Lore. Having them as human characters that learn about Lore from the perspective of a human would be really great. I just wish that we learned who Malgor is at the start of this whole saga. Learning about a characters psychology before learning who they are is just a bit weird, and I don't think it really works. I think it just causes people to tune out.

Now our next mission is to find a way to get Malgor away from the Mana Core before all of Lore is changed. That might happen in September as next week is the next chapter in the Darkon saga.

I really hope that when the Malgor story is over the Queen gets brought back as the main villain. I feel that almost nothing was done with her after building her up so much.

True, Lofty, although not everyone's going to be high enough level, or have consumables, or be on Discord, to defeat the ultra fight as is.

I suggest this.

There are two insignias given for the ultra fight, yes?

How about a daily for the fight at the end of the war with 1.5 million HP and allowing 7 players (not the ultra), but it only give ONE insignia for it?

That way more casual and / or lower-level players can still obtain the gear.

There will be fewer level 70 - 80's and / or inadequately geared players attempting the ultra fights.

And a badge for defeating the ultra fight as well.

What happens next with Malgor after the Mana Core thing is up to the AQW Team. The closest thing we got to fighting the Queen of Monsters was her statue coming to life. They just called that opponent "Queen of Monsters".

As for Drakath who has been downgraded to anti-hero, some of his forces are residing in Northpointe while he and some of his new followers are in Crownsreach which is somewhere in Lore.

While the elements consist of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Energy, Darkness, and Light, the child elements consist of magic, nature, and void as revealed in the release where Aria got out of her Twisted Aria appearance.

To recap on each of the Champions, Drakath is the Champion of Chaos, Mirror Drakath is the Champion of Order, Galanoth is the Champion of Fire, Abel is the Champion of Ice, Artix is the Champion of Darkness, Gravelyn is the Champion of Light, Aria is the Champion of Nature, and the players are the Champion of Balance. We still need to be introduced to the Champions of Earth, Air, Water, Energy, Magic, and Void.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what chrono class to get?
For soloing purposes without too much of a learning curve.

I find that I am unable to do the story events and such (Currently locked at Celestial Arena, and at the Fire war Major enemy) despite having classes like Star Captain, Necromancer, and so on.

So we're doing Tarot cards now instead of Chaos Beasts? Can I be The Fool?

Addendum: I won't lie, Darkon releases have been slowly growing on me. I still don't think they're particularly good per se, or that they have any reason to belong in a game like AQW, but I can't help it. Of course the irony is not lost on me; Lukrecia and the concept of the Darkovian Blood Feud roleplay setting I developed, with the four queens in the card suits, and the whole spin on the phrase 'human resources' is fundamentally similar.

But there is just this type of narm charm to it being taken to this almost comical extreme, delivered with a straight face mind you.

Last night's release revealed that Darkon is King Drago's brother and that the strange beasts are the results of humans being possessed by unspecified parasitic lifeforms from another plane that feed off paranoia. Once they have gained enough power, these unspecified parasitic lifeforms reshape their hosts into strange beasts that are part-human part-something else.

The Moon was the first monster that King Drago summoned. The Sun was the second monster that King Drago summoned. Upon sacrificing the strange beasts, Darkon has opened a hole where a large horn associated with Judgement emerged. To the writer above, what tarot cards did you say they were from?

Most of the Scales were present in the last release with La helping the players. We already know that Ti is the one who the strange beasts obey in the last release. The remaining ones have yet to appear.

The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, etc... you know, Tarot cards? Eyepatch girl mentioned there was 22 of them so I recon the whole Major Arcana, most of them already summoned if I got it right. And if you're wondering what Judgement might look like, well, I found a pretty nice illustration you can use to get a general idea.

The Sun and the Moon are part of the Major Arcana according to Wikipedia. Besides them and the upcoming Judgement, the other cards consist of The Magician, The High Priest, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The Chariot, Strength, The Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The World, and The Fool.

I think Mi should have had an introduction, some of the weapons in the display cases should have had a text box that appears when you hover your mouse over them, and So's eyes should have been looking at Darkon when she was in her angry personality, but these are really small things. The explanation of some of the mysteries and the release itself was really good, which I was not expecting.

hoping that Lae's hollowborn saga part 1 is good. Lae's in-game character is not very well liked, so he needs a strong start to his story. it doesn't need fancy animations, or lots of rooms, or heaps of enemy models. It needs to start by being worth reading, and from there, just be really good. not much else to it.
